Bummer that last/larva/JD/bisu didn't participate :\
Without last/flash in the tournament the only player that might stop zero would probably be light or ZvZ coinflips. His ZvP is out of control right now. I'd say zero/light/rain are the favorites for the tournament in that order.
Sucks that action didn't qualify, he's such a fun zerg to watch :\ . I would have definitely preferred to see him instead of hyuk and calm instead of modesty.
Also funny that only 1 protoss made it through qualifiers, but I guess the top 4 were already seeded.

Zero has 19-34 record against terran this month including 1-5 against Sorry. Add that to his offline choking and mappool and I would say Rain/Snow and Mini are the favorites here.

oh.. top 4 from last season are seeded.. okay, that's good then
perfectly balanced race distribution.
Rain/SnOw are big favourites again. Maybe ZerO will be able to do well finally.
|
Rain and SnOw are just performing offstage as opposite to the others favorites (Light,Best,ZerO and perhaps Soma) Other than that, a 16 players tournament without the usual suspects in Flash Bisu and Last, this looks pretty balanced to me. Hyped

ForGG Modesty sOrry Hyuk Mind Rush sacsri Stork
They will all need some luck in their brackets to make it to RO8, in that order (imo).
Those are the clear favorites, in that order (imo).
ZerO Light Rain SnOw Best Soma Sharp Mini

at time of this post there are only 2 zerg players with zvt winrate of >=45% this month and they are both amateurs. and they only got that winrate because of inferior opposition.
flash and terran in general is just making zerg flop like fishes at the moment

Yeah I suppose the map pool isn't great for ZvT, but I still think Zero is a favorite in a Bo5 against any T in the tournament outside of light.

Kind of a boring tournament. Lot of relative scrubs here, leading to lots of poor match quality. Hopefully ro8/ro4 is decent. Definitely a B-tier tournament this time around.
|
There are some top players retired, semi-retired or in the military: in this case Flash, SoulKey, effort, hero... but that's always the case. And then some top players just missing: Bisu, Last, Larva, Jaedong
Aside from those, I think more or less all the best players qualified. Except from Rain playing PvP, every match could be close in a tournament like this, which should be exciting to watch.

Lineup sort of reminds me of the 2005-2006 OSL era where we arguably didn't have a consensus dominant player in the field.
Those were some solid OSLs imo.

this. add Action instead of Hyuk and this top16 is super solid. It is super solid anyway.

Sharp, Zero, Light, Soma, Best... Snow, Rain? Who else is interesting?
Best/Soma kind of a stretch. Best is firmly in the good-but-not-great gatekeeper role. Soma has nice muta micro but not sure he can compete vs the elite.
When does ASL begin? The only intriguing players in the scene are Bisu and Zero. Everyone else is a known quantity.

And the only two "interesting" players missing are Bisu and Last and it was already known since he returned that bisu wasn't going to participate in KSL, so what were you expecting? And with rapidly improving players like Soma, Sacsri and Sorry the playerpool is about as interesting as it could get except maybe Hyuk and ForGG

Looking forward to this KSL. Hoping one of Soma/sorry/Sacsri/rush goes on a tear
Also hoping zero doesn't get randomly knocked out in the early stages again
Protoss representation is just the usual suspects

Gee, two of the best five players in the scene are missing and that's an "only"? That's 40% of the watchability.
What's interesting about Soma/Sacsri/Sorry/Modesty/Rush/forgg/Hyuk/Mind? We know their level. Slightly capable of upsets. Zero chance of consistently elite play. That's not changing.
The most interesting thing, until we get to ro8/ro4, is Tastosis commentary.
When does ASL start?

The tournament hasn't even started and you are already calling it boring and B tier? Rofl.
As for the absent players: Flash, who's retired from tournaments, and Bisu, who will benefit of having more time, would not play in KSL anyway. Jaedong is as washed up as you can get, it's painful to see him play at such a low level, Last's wrists are in bad conditions and Larva chokes terribly every time he plays on a big stage.
Everyone was super hyped for Stork, are you not? Mind is a former champion, your disrespect is out of place, even if I have no idea if he will be competitive in this tournament. It's not like players are perpetually stuck at a predetermined level, you know? Sascri, Soma and Sorry have definitely improved, they might surprise us.
I find exciting that there are many dark horses in this tournament, I would personally love to see Snow, Light, Best, Mini, Zero or Sharp eventually crowned champion but I fear Rain might be too good.

Maybe the BW scene isn't for you. You seem totally disappointed and disrespectful of every player that isn't flash basically? Sorry but we're not in peak BW any more. The players in this tournament are the best that there are out of anyone in the world that can/wants to play. If that's not good enough for you then maybe don't constantly post bitching about it, and just find something else to do?
The scene is so small now, why do you always have to be so negative about shit?
|
I find it very weird to say that the collective "we" know Soma as having "zero chance of the elite play". Soma has been improving at an incredible rate last few months. I don't think there's a reason to think he's plateaued.

Top 5 per race by spon match ELO Oct http://sponbbang.com/bj/
