i'm saying Friedman runs the Dodgers and is the final decision maker on everything related to the LA Dodgers; Magic Johnson owns something like 2% of the team and isn't responsible for their success.
http://www.espn.com/nba/story/_/id/25188477/larry-drew-agrees-deal-coach-cavaliers-rest-season nice to see the Cavaliers made a deal with Larry Drew. the guy is 1000 years old with a million years of experience in basketball... give the man his money.
More accurate coverage by the GLOBAL sports leader ESPN. Their awareness of global societal issues that affect every human on the planet is heartwarming.

I must admit I had to look at a map to see what was wrong. This is some funky placement :D. Btw why were they talking about Hamilton and Oshawa? I knew Ottawa but not Oshawa.

@JimmyJRaynor Sorry, I was a bit late. I was referencing this post.
"Millenials are soft" The theme of "millenials are soft" really is just "young people are soft" and that theme has been playing forever. People who treat this "millenials are soft" like its never happened before and we've never had a group of 30 and 40 year olds saying a bunch of 20-something year olds are soft is off base. Its been going on forever.
Same shit.... different decade.
|
i don't think all generations are the same. i think the "young people are soft" label is too easily , lazily, and sloppily applied.
OG Anunoby is a millenial. He is now an orphan. Both his parents are now dead. His dad just died. Read a little bit about the guy. Did you see his last game? . Does he look soft to you? What about Fred VanVleet? He is a millenial. Is he soft?
Going back to the 70s Larry Robinson was a soft defenseman in his early time playing junior hockey. He was labelled as soft. He evolved into the toughest player in the game. The only reason he hardly got into any fights is... no one wanted to fight him. When Wayne Gretzy and the 80s Oilers were making their rise they were labelled soft. and they were soft. They learned though. They toughened up. The 1991 over all #1 NHL pick Alexander Daigle was softer than a twinkie. He stayed soft and became nothing.
Every generation has a small number of lazy, coddled, extremely talented athletes. Some toughen up. Some don't.

The real problem for young people being soft (at least imo) is that older people are actually soft and never push back. Look at the shit that goes on in the media. Everybody is too afraid to call out anyone on even the most retarded BS. LeBron could say Elvis is still alive and Stalin is his role model and everyone but Skeeeep would give him a rimjob and talk about how smart goulags were as social policy.
Then he can't handle it when Scott Foster's crew calls a game that isn't ridiculously slanted in his favor. Is it LeBron's fault or ESPN'S?

Current nba is the generation of Andrew Wiggins and Joel embiids fault for being soft and sucking. . They were supposed to revolutionize the game and became a bunch of lazy shithead money eaters instead. They aren’t shit and people talked about Wiggins like he was the next MJ/ prodigy god of basketball. Never turned out to be true but that didn’t stop slam magazine and other toilet paper publications from blowing hot air and white noise about him.
|
i wonder if Andrew Wiggins will be the Alexander Daigle of the NBA?

Lebron calls himself `the new sheriff in town` and then gets upset when the guys he hangs out with are called a posse.
Toronto's schedule has been very weak so far and it doesn't get much harder until November 29th when they face Golden State. So I wouldn't read too much into their 10-1 start.
Who says Jimmy Butler doesn't get along with his team mates? He loaned Tyus JOnes his airplane tonight.

So much for Duke being the underdog.

I think we have very different ideas about what makes someone "tough". Having a hard life doesn't make you tough. Playing a physical game doesn't make you tough. Practicing and playing hard and being a professional and taking criticism on the chin makes you tough.
After all, you can't expect 22 year old kids to control themselves. Basketball is an emotional game, if someone fouls you you have to expect them to take a swing at you. At their age you probably would have stabbed them in the eye with your keys.

Eh but that has always happened and will always happen. Some players don't pan out, that's about it. It's obvious that different players have different levels of competitive drive, professionalism and willingness to work. But I don't see how this is specific to today's game.

If you care about the top of the NBA draft watch duke. Their top 3 freshman are all projected as top 5 picks. And vs Kentucky last night they all went off!
Zion Williamson is fun to watch. He is 6'7 285 (which would make him the second heaviest player in the NBA after BOBAN, I mean wtf?) He has a 6'10 wingspan and a 45!!!!!!!! inch vert. He dunks from the FT line and he is bigger then Barkely when he played. He also is not a post, he drives and finishes with either hand.
Barrett is the Canadian, he is more polished and shoots more, not as efficient but more craft, still athletic just Zion is un believeable.
Reddish is more of the shooter Tall skinny,
Also for Tyus Jones fans his younger brother is starting for Duke. They are going to be fun and I think they will win in March. Kansas might have something to see but we will see.

People may not change, but the structures to limit their shittery can be better or worse.
|
This biggest difference between then and now, is we hear more about what these guys due. Do to social media and cameras. Can you imagine the type of shittery Barkley and Oakley were into when they were drunk (probably high on coke) 20 year old millionaires with no camera's on?

I'm not really concerned with what some yahoos do, only the excuses people make for them.
|
On this day 27 years ago, Magic Johnson publicly acknowledged he had AIDS. He shows no signs of slowing down.

I learned colloquial english by watching sports and talking about sports. Sports talk is not exactly the greatest pedagogical vehicle.

Me either to be honest. I was more pointing out that we know a lot more about what today's yahoo's do than what yesterdays yahoo's did. Which can paint today's yahoo's in a worse light when they are probably about the the same, if not slightly better because they know they are being watched and have the money and power to hire people to take care of them.

When it comes to older generations, ignorance is bliss.
|
the league and players' association agreed to televise this year's all-star draft.
Bill Simmons is reporting Rozier wants out of Boston.
|
Going into this year the 30 year old Derrick Rose shot 29% from 3 on 1250 attempts. this year he is 18 for 39. it'll be interesting to see if the 3 point shot has become a permanent part of Rose's game.
|
I'm more worried about his knee holding up, especially with Thibs at coach if he keeps playing well he will be getting 36+ mins a game.
|
You Canadians need to make sure Kawhi becomes the Eastern Conference captain. No other top player can be as socially awkward in a televised all-star draft as him.
