S!mple IS a rolemodel simply because he's a public figure. Its his choice whether he wants to have a positive or negative influence on those that follow him. His choices will define his success Its not appropriate for anyone to make abusive / rude / derogatory comments in a public forum such as social media. For somebody in the public eye, its magnified several times over. At this point it isnt about being "poitically correct" so much as it is "not being a giant dick". You wouldn't walk around a crowded place and start throwing out unprovoked insults at a stranger that everyone could hear - unless you were a giant dick. He needs to understand that "jokes" like this are things that are said between friends, in private. -- Anyway, this is exactly the type of shit i expected from him, since he has proved himself time and time again to not be a decent human being.

Wanted to give my two c about that; if you are in the public eye you are automatically a role model, and it is not something you get to have a choice on. You only get to choose on what you do with it. To be a role model doesn't automatically mean you are of positive or negative influence, it just means that in your position your behavior can be an example to others. You may not like that, and you may not want it, but that is the case regardless. Fans across all sports look up to athletes, and what you do with it will differ from person to person. It is totally fine to have strong opinions, to disagree with things and bring those disagreements up if you want. However, the manner in which you do this is key. The tweet by s1mple clearly crossed a line for us. For us this is a matter we take very seriously. His tweet is not acceptable and absolutely not something we can condone. In gaming there are lots of problems with the treatment of women and we should all be doing our best to make the environment better not worse (this does not mean you can't be critical). We've engaged in conversation with s1mple about all of this. After addressing the problems with his tweet we followed up by going through the process of talking to him for several hours, going over player training, cultural differences, social media behavior, etc. Honestly, there was a lot of understanding from s1mple both to the issue at hand, as well as how serious we are taking this. In the end he is focused on how to get better about it. As part of this process we have opted to give s1mple an official warning notice, as what happened is very clearly against our code of conduct (that he signed as a part of his player agreement). Hopefully we can leave this behind us and look positively with an eye on the future. Thanks for the statement. I totally agree with this and I hope for the CSGO Pro Scene and for him that he will take the opportunity serious and will change his attitude. He's a great talent and obviously a improvement for Team Liquids Team. Take the german player Troubley. He was kinda the biggest Talent in CS for some time. But his attitude got him kicked out of every team and now he stopped playing Counter Strike professionally.

[THIS IS A JOKE!] How could you take that as an affront to all of Germany though? We have a few Germans on this thread who are asking for unreasonable punishment of s1mple after one transgression, and refuse to take the "culture shock" into account. I'm pretty sure most Germans don't know who s1mple is.

Also, you find TL-ians to be unforgiving? Some are, but I didn't get the feeling that it was a majority (esp. right after the perm bans) There's even less to debate about right/wrong if that was mentioned in the code of conduct he signed lol (whether you like it or not) Thanks for the update Nazgul!

Well I remember being very active on that one thread about Korean matchfixers being systematically banned from the Afreeca streaming platform, where a lot of TL folks were arguing that it's perfectly reasonable for people who matchfixed in tournaments should be permanently banned from a streaming service which is (or at least should be) completely disconnected from the tournament scene. I didn't and still don't understand why a person who was caught in a criminal act like matchfixing should still be penalized years after the fact, after they've been duly prosecuted and they've paid their debt to society. Now I can understand being banned from competing for a few years, hell even permanently since Korea is a very honor based country and maybe very harsh punishments are appropriate for these types of offense in that society. Now I'm not arguing that it's illegal of Afreeca to ban people who have matchfixed, I just disagree with it, and my point is that I was surprised to see that people on TL were so retributive. Believe it or not, the vast majority of us benefited from the fact that most of us Westerners live in societies which give second chances to people in most cases. It strikes me as insane from people on TL, people who in many cases have been raised to understand justice as restorative rather than completely punitive. A person who commits a reprehensible act like tweeting something shitty or matchfixing or even manslaughter does not automatically become human waste. And yet it seemed to be a majority opinion on TL that matchfixing (both in SC2 and CSGO) should be punished with a lifetime ban from tournaments, even from streaming in the case of SC2, and now the opinion that s1mple's single real transgression since joining a NA team should be an instant ban despite attenuating circumstances. I don't believe in this black and white approach. Not only do I not believe in it morally, I think it's a pretty poor and inefficient way to run a society. If you can recycle mate, you should.

As someone who has seamlessly transitioned to Western society (without the supposed culture shock + Show Spoiler + -- because education The pitchforks come out to fast, and there is a serious disconnect. Douche move, shouldnt have done it, dont do it again. End of story. The point about him being a role model is true but sexism in video games isnt a problem because Simple made an ugly tweet. Also to someone who said he went and had time to think about what he wrote on twitter. How PC are you ? Most people just spam twitter like their tongues are stuck to it. Why allow Simple the benefit of the doubt of thinking really hard about it and then choosing to say something shitty. And the part I highlighted is something that Western societies take for granted so hard but go full on witch hunt mode when they find more then 2 people who agree with their rather... strong sentiments + Show Spoiler + (easily done on the internet There is one thing though. Its not just cultural. His behaviour is poor regardless of what culture you come from. Its just that there are less people in that sort of culture who really give a shit about this sort of inflammatory comment or rather would just insult him back instead of crying foul.

It's not just cultural, but it's more likely to occur. Why? Growing up in Eastern Europe, you hear a lot of women telling you how men only think about sex and all they're good for is giving them money. Consequently, you hear a lot of men saying stuff like that tweet. It's an easy way to figure out who to avoid dealing with. EDIT: It's a postproduct of Communism. People were taught how to think in school. They lived in an ordered society where everyone had their place mandated from up above. Then they raised the current generations of 20-40 year olds.

https://www.reddit.com/r/GlobalOffensive/comments/45q7x5/this_is_the_new_s1mple/ There was some drama with the LG guys. I don't know the full story but from what I can gather, Simple knifed Taco, Taco got mad, Simple answered and the LG guys went full retard on twitter with death threats and so on. Simple was actually pretty mature through all of that.
