Hello TL'ers, I'm a Dia Protoss player. Lately I played a little Zerg for fun. I recognized that my Zerg APM is much more than my Protoss APM.
~150 APM Zerg ~70 APM Toss
Am I missing something as Toss? Why am I so slow with TOSS?
I know I need to improve my scouting but I feel like I'm missing some routine!?
Please help
I uploaded a Toss replay here: http://drop.sc/295410

It's natural to have at lot less apm with toss. That's just how the different races play out. Imagine you remaxe with zerglings after a fight. You probably get more apm thyn a toss who warps in a round of stalkers. Low apm doesn't mean you have to be slow. Maybe those few clicks are just more effective and precise.

I have almost double the APM/EAPM read in sc2gears playing zerg rather than toss, and im limited by my brain speed in both. The zerg race just gives you higher APM readouts

I main toss aswell and sometimes off race with zerg and I spam like a mad man controlling zerglings over the map in the early game, meanwhile as toss you dont have much to control early game..

Hmm I still feel like I'm missing something. Other toss at my level have higher APM! Maybe It's scouting or I'm not aggressive enough!?
Im not to sure!?

1K5apm peaks holding Z when remaxing certainly help. Otherwise the difference shouldn't be too great, I think protoss players are just to use to warp with W and don't hotkey they warpgates to check the CD, therefore don't tap and loose a great part of their apm.

When i was in diamond i had 60-120 apm. In masters 90-160 apm depending on game and how passive it was. If you go into macro mode then you will have lower apm, with toss, because there's not much for toss to do in the early game up until high masters when you will be able to control a zealot stalker poke without losing on macro. Toss is apm intesive just on fights or phnix/prism harass, rest it's all about positioning and waiting for that deathball sadly because if you move out with it too much and you get flanked you're fucked you can't retreat with it or risk to lose all the colossus/sentry. Toss is just lower apm imho, and also toss has an apm cap given by how crappy our harass options are 200apm is more than enough to control toss and 350 apm wont help you much imho where a terran doing 300 will perform better than a 200apm one for example.
But don't worry HOTS will change that, you will get a chance to strain your multitasking to the limit.

The zerg race just leans more to higher apm peaks. With army spamming, injects, creep spread etc. Plus you are the swarm you should have stuff running all over the place that just means more apm. I play toss and a little zerg, have about 200-220 apm with both of them but with toss its a lot more of spamming on hotkeys to confirm gateway cooldowns, forges and other stuff than actual army movements and production.
plus indeed having about 70 apm with toss is fine, friend of mine is pretty high master and still sits on 60 apm

~70-80eapm with 22% redundancy on actions is really not below average. Many people have inflated APM's, but it is all in useless actions.
If you want to improve mechanics, look at hotkeys, neither of you had anywhere near good hotkey usage in that game

What do you mean with hotkey usage exactly?

Hi, I'm a Diamond Terran on wings.
I also have a query: Watching the replay, what's the difference between EPM and APM? My APM sits around 160 or so, my EPM is usually like 155-160. With often only a gap of 2-3 yet I see some people with a huge gap...I don't understnad?

It's about how many of your actions are redundant or useless. Having the two numbers being near each other is good, it means your actions are generally useful or important or necessary.
People who have a huge disparity are generally wasting APM by unnecessary click spamming etc.
That said the system isn't flawless, it's not entirely accurate.
On topic, Zerg is generally the most APM intensive race. My Zerg is like 120 APM, Terran 100, and Protoss 80. If you can do what you need to do at your level with 70 APM, that's absolutely fine. A lot of APM is wasted anyway. Also, a lot of stuff in the beginning of Protoss is spent waiting around - waiting for money to drop a building, waiting for warp gate to finish, etc. There is only so much you can do! I've often dropped to 0 APM when waiting for things during an opening, which lowers the overall average.
I wouldn't worry about it, you can always be like Goody and play with 20 APM the whole game.

spreading creep, injecting, spreading overlord, and sometimes controlling 3 groups of units helps boost apm a lot, while as protoss theres really not as much to do
