It seems that GOMTV is offering it's HD service as a subscription. People will be able to watch live in HD and download Video files with DRM in HD. I would love to be able to watch starcraft in HD, but $50 dollars a season seems to be too expensive for me. Especially since their league doesn't even have MBC, OGN, or SKT1 players. It might be more palatable if they included HD OGN and MBCGame channels.

$50 is really expensive for HD...

DRM? Egads...
I think this is a pretty good way to monetize foreign SC fandom, though. If it wasn't for this GOM season's lack of T1 and the DRM, I would definitely fork over $50 for this. It'd have to be super reliable, though.
@ previous poster and OP: come on guys, $50 isn't that bad for an entire GOM season of HQ video, especially if the regular stream is going to lag like it did last season. If you are truly an avid GOM fan and watch all of the matches, then you'd be paying a fraction of a dollar for each game in HQ. I think that's pretty reasonable.

what does this mean for people that donated last season?
|
Does this also mean subscribers will have a private server and since it'll effectively be a very low-traffic stream, it WONT LAG? If so, I'm getting this ASAP.
Is this any different from that HD option they offered towards the end of the season last time? IIRC the quality still wasn't THAT great. They should have like a free sample imo.

I don't think it lags that much in the normal stream. Plus, they are pretty good at uploading the VODs, and regular quality is fine. It just seems that $50 is a bit expensive.

I hope their definition of HD is at least 720p.

what a jip, you can get the same quality on korean GOM for nothing. so it's basically english commentary for 50 dollars per season. not worth it.

Wow, this is so ridiculous. The quality of games weren't even that high last season, and now SKT is not even participating. Why would anyone purchase this?

I seriously doubt it...actually, confusion of HD terminology is a big problem on the internet: for streaming/flash video, "HD" seems to mean any quality which is not the absolute bottom of the barrel.
I wonder what's going to happen when everyone has connections fast enough to watch real (i.e. 1080p) HD video. Will 1080p video that's streamed be called "Super HD"?

Wait.
SKT1 isn't included anymore?!?!!?!?!?!?! ESTRO is in this season!?!??!!?!?
Or was that a typo?
Bisu won it last season, I don't see why they would choose not to include SKT1.
|
|
sktt1 and estro are both not playing iirc
if the HD is anything like last season's "HD", $50 is wayyyyyyyyy too much
|
Why are some teams not participating?
|
i might shell out 2$ to see a couple notable games... o_o
|
That's a bit expensive
Although, I'm sure we're not the target audience of the paid stream. Its probably targeted towards outside casual viewers who are deluded into thinking they're getting a great deal.

If the "hd" is the same as what they did for those who donated last season then this is just a huge joke, the quality was about the same as liveongame.gscdn/L1 stream and far away from anything that can be considered hd.
$50 is a huge amount even if its better than that though, no chance in hell I'm paying that.

They are fuckin crazy.. LOL
