I'm just commenting on something that is starting to annoy me fairly often in some game threads in the tourneys section. It may seem trivial to some people, but it's so simple to prevent I don't see why we wouldn't.
Lately people have been making the thread for a match or series, and then not updating the results at all. I know occasionally something will come up in the middle of a game and you have to leave and can't update until later. I've seen that happen where someone updates the first 4 games but then had to leave before the 5th finished. I'm not talking about that. I'm talking about making a thread and then not even watching the games, or not going through the effort to update the results in the spoiler.
There are plenty of people that watch every match, so obviously there are people here willing to post the results. It also takes pretty much zero effort to make the game thread. For big games or their favorite games, some people may include images and historical information and interviews, but for the most part you list the players and the maps and add the results spoiler (I made one myself in like 3 minutes when I noticed no thread after a broadcast had already started). If you have neat stuff to include but can't watch, PM it to someone who can include it for you, or ask a mod to add it to the thread when someone else makes it.
The reasoning behind this is twofold. Normally when someone doesn't update, it's just a bit of a hassle: I have to read the thread backwards on it until I deduce the results of the matches. Not really a HUGE deal, but still easily avoided by letting someone who will watch make the thread. The real problem was today in the ODT threads. I wanted to watch the 1st group's games without knowing the results, but just wanted the results of the 2nd group. Because they weren't updated, I had to go through the thread. Now the results of the previous group have been ruined for me because people listed all the results of all the groups together later in the thread. The purpose of the 1st post's spoiler is so people can easily get the information on the games, and have a quick spot to view the results without ruining anything else.
Alternatively, we could have a massive RESULTS thread for all professional games (like the small vod thread) where whoever posts first posts the results of each game in a spoiler tag: so one post for each match or for each dual. It just seems silly to me that we often have to go through so much trouble to get game results, and oftentimes it ruins the results of other games.
If there IS another way to quickly get results without other games being mentioned and without game details, please direct me to that, and I apologize for my ignorance (but regardless my complaint about live threads stands). Thanks.

I propose the responsibility fall on the thread creator. The thread should have the results within 24 hours, or that person shouldn't be creating live report threads. If there are certain people doing it, PM me who they are, or if you feel comfortable with it, PM them on my behalf simply requesting that they have the results on the page within 24 hours, and if they don't think they can do that, to refrain from creating the live report threads.
Does that sound like a fair compromise?

Sounds good ETT
I also get annoyed by the people who don't update the OP's. It was why I used to make them for games I was watching, to keep people from doing just that. But then people complained to me that I wasn't updating them all immediately after the games finished. So I stopped. Though I always got them updated in less than 8 hours afterward.
24 hours is long. I think maybe 12 hours would be good, no one should be busy or sleeping for that long that they can't come back and update it.
Also, LonelyMargarita, game results on the FighterForum Calendar are usually updated pretty quickly. Though all the games in one day will be spoiler at once as you highlight a certain day. Of course it's in Korean, but it shouldn't be too difficult to deduce who is who even if you don't understand it since each player has their race listed next to them.
Liquibet is also decent way to check results. For four-person ODT-style groupings you can usually figure out how all five games went by looking at the results.

Thanks for the link, semioldguy.
I think 12 hours would be reasonable, but like I said, if you're not certain you're going to watch and live-update, why not just let someone else make the thread?

Eh, I just arbitrarily picked 24 hours to include for sudden sleep + school or something, in which case I guess someone shouldn't make the thread in the first place.
If you guys all feel that 12 hours is reasonable AND doable, that's fine by me.

This reminds me of when I said the same thing for the "Who is who" threads and everyone flipped out. Don't make the thread if you are not going to update it, because someone who is willing to will make it instead. This should be common sense.
I think 24 hours is reasonable, because sometimes you do have to sleep and then goto school and maybe get sidetracked doing something else.

24 hours is reasonable. I've had times where I think I'm staying up all night and then game 1 takes 90 minutes or something, and I just can't make it all the way. (School, etc.)
Generally I update the OP explaining the situation and promise to update it within 24 hours.

Since every league not has a results and standings thread, maybe people could start posting results in those after the game if they don't see the op around any time. That'll save having to make a huge thread of spoilers, and give more attention to the work done by the maintainers like Tyranid whose lesser leagues results and standings don't get a lot of love.
Of course, FiFo / Fomos always has a quick report and interviews, and its not that hard to work it out especially since there is a game order or you could tlpdize it.

also, if you want to help, post right after the OP if you know you are going to be around after the matches
that way when it's over and the OP didn't update yet, you can just edit your post on the first page (right after the OP) with results

That's not a bad idea either. At the very least, a mod can edit it directly into the OP if necessary.

Wholeheartedly agree with OP. Its very frustrating when the OP didn't update. I think we need some rule.

24 hours sounds good.
12 hours can be a little harsh, but not totally unreasonable (going back to the argument that if you can't, don't do it).
I think an associated temp ban would right things very quickly.

No no, perm ban is better solution.
