A sad day, Robert Jordan, creator of the "Wheel of Time" fantasy books, died yesterday. He's been sick for a while, but still wanted to finish the 12th and final book of the series before he passed, sadly, he did not

Wow, what a sad week it has been and it's only been Monday.

First a great rally driver, now a great author.

RIP.

Yeah shame about Madeline McCann, Colin McRae and now Robert Jordan.

And it's a shame about Rolf Harris too.

These sites might be of more use than a StarCraft site, where the majority of posters look on WCIII as the dense misformed fetus produced during Blizzards latest miscarrige.

Men reading this need to observe a moment of silence.

Women reading this need to observe a moment of crossing their arms under their breasts and sniffing.

Did he leave a rough outline of the plot behind or was it completely open ended? I'd hate to be reading a series and have the final book missing.

from wikipedia:
Before his death, Jordan stated "I'm getting out notes, so if the worst actually happens, someone could finish A Memory of Light and have it end the way I want it to end." The decision to posthumously complete the book has been left to his wife Harriet and Tor Books president Tom Doherty.

He saw it coming, he prepared notes and left instructions for it to be finished.

You'll see the conclusions he intended, if not in the words he'd have chosen.

This is a terrible shame, as we'll never see the final book the way he would have written it as well as his own personal absence from the world.

And it's a shame that other thousands of people die everyday.

lol me, too.

Can't really ever enjoy loss of life and I feel sorry for the suffering of his family, but... to take a moment to be insensitive, since I will assume his family isn't reading teamliquid..

That guy was totally arrogant, and I didn't really like his writing style. He had horrible characters that were annoying.. And he would have finished all the series' that he wanted long ago if he didn't ramble and repeat things.
For some reason his plots were just addictive, so I had to read all the books even though most of the time I didn't like reading them.

Anyway, he did pass on some notes, but it's up to his wife, etc as to what to do with them. She had better at least release those notes, cuz there's thousands of us who are wondering what the heck is going to happen.

This sort of touched me. He has been a part of my life as no other writer. I read the first book 10 years ago..

He was a great writer, however he either believed too much the hype for his series, or he let financial incentives to overcome his artistic integrity. The first 3 books of the series were among the best fantasy I've ever read -- the rest I won't remember as Jordan.

Jesus, I can"t believe this. I have been reading him since I was in Jr. High School. Despite the fact the Wheel of Time was 6 books too long, this is really a blow. RIP.
