fuck fuck fuck FUCK

RIP

you could never tell from his optimism concerning the sickness that it was so close...

and i think it's only fair that his real name is mentioned: James Oliver Rigney, Jr.

fuck fuck fuck. I knew he was sick but damn I expected him to finish the books.. Arggg.

Although it is true it takes just was tooo long. The last battle could come any fucking moment, but he would go on and on and on....

Anyways. R.I.P.

EDIT: Haha, we wrote the same at the same time.

death and life and grief to his family and all that stuff aside...

that just sucks for all the WoT fans. luckily he left notes and the option for his series to be finished.

now i just pray this doesn't happen to martin, because he explicitly stated if he were to die that the series would not end, and i would cry myself to sleep if that happened.

The first books were, as mentioned, the best. In the end there were simply too many characters and plots to follow which meant that a whole book contained, time wise, perhaps a chapter of one of his old.. Which made it very addictive but also very slow..

By the light, I want that last book! Blood and ashes!

i don't get this kind of threads. the need for social unity in death related cases escapes me.

tlnet has became a graveyard. a RIP bandwagon. it's depressing.
the ones who knew him through his books (or we) should say some words about him, his ideeas, his views, what kind of person he was and so on. you should praise the man and his work, not his death. the other ones should just shut up.
i don't understand how RIP acts as a eulogy.

Saying "Rest in peace." is a simple gesture of respect from the people who are going to miss him.

Not everybody who attends a funeral delivers a eulogy.

i know that but i don't understand the meaning of that gesture if it's done by someone who has no ideea who that man was, if it's not said to his family of if it's done just to be polite. for me the meaning > the courtesy.

We pay our respects because of his contribution to us. He provided us with wonderous books that gave us something to do other then playing starcraft. He loved his fans and we know that because even on his death, he told his family the plot so that the series will end. To us who read his books (did you read his books?), he was like an icon of inspiration and to others maybe admiration. He was our friend the moment we allowed ourselves to read his books.

[edit] He died on my birthday.

i really don't see what's wrong with someone posting RIP who didn't know Robert Jordan personally or didn't have some deep meaning with his words. for most forum users and for 99.9% of his readers he was a writer and that relationship of reader-author shouldn't be discarded as "no idea who that man was." a lot of someone's personality and passion show in their writing. who are you to say who is qualified and unqualified to wish someone "RIP" or what that means to each person?

thank you.
now, it's too much to ask of the posters to say something like that instead of RIP?

yes it is. its not your place to tell someone how they want to grieve, well wish, or remember someone else. you really think someone saying "RIP" without an attached eulogy is somehow discourteous or rude to the Jordan's memory? what's wrong with just saying that?

if someone wanted to just come to your funeral and wish you or your family well, you'd say "no, you have to have some great reason or intention!" or "you had to know me personally, why are you here?" or "you can't just stand in silence, you have to say something!"

PS- you completely making this thread off-topic by passive-aggressively attacking well wishers does exponentially more damage to Jordan than any "inadequately genuine" posters do. how ridiculous.

^- word.

I loved his books, but I stopped reading them after a while as they were even more time consuming than WoW. Too bad for his fans he couldn't finish his series. RI~P

Liked his books, and they were good and long enoug to take some time. But we cannot say his death was unexpected, so I hoped for more time.
