[Itembay] Park Jun Oh (
Killer), "Please continue loving Starcraft 1."
The first time in the Sonic Starleague, Killer who has won two SSL's in a row asked for unending support for Starcraft: Brood War. Most programers transitioning into Starcraft 2, comparatively Starcraft 1's public awareness has dropped and there's almost no tournaments. Even knowing this due to Sonic Starleague, Killer is thankful for SSL for providing a stage for retired players to stand upon. He also mentions if the 9th, 10th SSL continues to open there are other players that could attract attention and promised that they can all show improved game play.
Q. You've won two SSL's in a row.
Killer - Winning both SSL's I've participated in, it's an honor. I feel awesome.
Q. In the 1st set you lost to Goo Sung Hoon (
HiyA) timing and started the series off badly.
Killer - I predicted Hiya would go into a standard late game army battles. I was planning for the late game, Hiya's timing caught me totally off guard.
Q. The 2nd set was dangerous for you as well.
Killer - When we were building up I felt very stuffy on the map. I thought if I could create a situation with zergling/lurkers roaming the map, this game would be winnable for me. With good timing Hiya made some crucial control mistakes so I could pull off a comeback.
Q. It felt like you were stabilizing from set 3 onwards. How did you do it?
Killer - After the 2nd set my hands were warmed up. I regained total focus. However I didn't pay attention and didn't notice the one vulture approaching. I all-in'ed with zerglings, I could win this set because Hiya panicked.
Q. Did you expect a cheese rush from Hiya in the 4th set?
Killer - I doubted he would cheese rush me. I wanted to play safe but knowing Hiya he could try it, so I kept it within
Q. From the 7th SSL, you've won two seasons in a row.
Killer - Even during my progamer days I had confidence in my skills. I was sad and felt pressured, which lead me losing my confidence during the Starcraft 1 -> Starcraft 2 transition. But I'm happy I could show my true skills within the Sonic Starleague.
Q. Looking at your Facebook, most recent posts are talking about League of Legends. Was this a smokescreen to hide from Hiya that you weren't practicing as much?
Killer - The way you put it, it feels like my smokescreen plan worked out well. I'm a guy that if I can't do something I want I accumulate stress. To get closer to my fans I play LOL with them occasionally.
Q. You were past teammates with Hiya in Hwaseung Oz. How did you prepare your mindset.
Killer - I still keep in touch with ex-Hwaseung Oz players. Since I played with Hiya today, I had fun playing.
Q. Didn't you mention you were going to call past Hwaseung players to the finals?
Killer - I asked Jaedong and other past teammates but they were all busy. Jaedong apologized saying he had to practice and couldn't attend. If there was another occasion like this I hope they would all come and cheer us on.
Q. There are talks that a 9th SSL is in the works. Are you playing again?
Killer - I'm always confident. Since I've won 2 in a row, I will attempt for a 3rd.
Q. What do you think is the charm(s) of Starcraft 1?
Killer - Starcraft 1 is a very approachable game. There are many progamer matches and strategies. Compared to Starcraft2 or LOL the graphics aren't that good but it's an real time strategy game with a deep history, you can also play however you like and that is the charm(s) of Starcraft 1.
Q. A word to the fans.
Killer - I've won two in a row. It's all due to my fan's support. I will practice even harder. It's all due to the fans' interest that the Sonic Starleague can grow. I ask for all of your support. It's a great weekend and I'm happy because it feels like I became of a part of SSL itself.
