MMA, the Iron Squid

MMA has nothing but good memories from Iron Squid. He stayed on the stage nearly 30 minutes to take care of his fans and one thing is sure, he wants to come back now that the issues he had with SlayerS are behind as he is one of Kaoru’s protégé. IPL 5 were not convincing enough to say MMA is back in shape but be sure he will give everything he has to do well in Iron Squid. Fans are longing for the day MMA comes back and ignites the crowd again. With two Zergs in his group, the reigning champion will have a good occasion to show if he is on his way back to the top.



Goswser, born in the USA

With Golden taking one of the two slots of the NA qualifier and IdrA having too busy of a schedule to accept the invitation, Goswser is the only American (Stephano excepted) in the tournament. The Zerg played really well in the qualifiers, beating heavy weights such as MajOr and HwangSin. Goswser has showed promising play but he is yet to make his way when he plays the very big guns. Iron Squid would be quite the occasion to make a splash especially by defeating MMA.

The face up

When he conquered his title, MMA was the best TvZ player in the world. You cannot really say that anymore as MMA got eliminated from the GSL when losing to ByuL. Still MMA is a great player, and rare are the foreigners who can claim they beat him. Goswser already beat MajOr, beating MMA would be one step beyond.



Genius, the great mind of StarCraft

Not much to say about Genius since SlayerS disbanded. He did not switch to LoL which is a good thing and Ryung said all of his former teammates but Arthur found a team, but he is yet to announce where he is going. In addition to the teamless status, his games in GSL were puzzling. Although he won he used builds that were even weirder than his usual ones. Genius is a really strong player but he needs to bring his A game to advance in the rounds of 16. The good thing is that he knows he can do it, he was once a GSL finalist.



Nerchio, the silent assassin

This year Nerchio has confirmed he is one of the best foreigners, moreover he showed that he can compete with the big boys from Korea. Even though he still prefers playing quietly from home, Nerchio travels to big events and usually does well in them. In the first Iron Squid Nerchio was good but yet to defeat the best Koreans, he has done it since winning HSC 5. Facing the mighty Koreans, Nerchio is one of the best shots for foreigners to be represented in Paris. As he is a very good player in all the match-up, he has an asset in a group where all races are represented. He came really close to making it through in Iron Squid I, maybe he will have better fortune in the second chapter.

The face up

Genius should be a legitimate favorite as he is a strong Protoss who just defeated Hyvaa in GSL, but it’s never easy. Although he did not do that well in IPL, Nerchio has been playing better than his opponent lately. The Polish Zerg really has a great shot at taking Genius down.

About advancing

The real problem with this group is that the two Koreans have been quite versatile lately. If MMA is on a good day, he will advance fairly easily. But he hasn’t been on a very good day for quite a while now. All the French fans are hoping to witness the comeback of their champion, and it might time for him to deliver as he does not want people to see his move to Acer as a preretirement. Nerchio might be the favorite to take the whole group, depending on how well he will do against Genius. This group is not the toughest, but it might be the tightest.
