Can I ask why this is on the front page given that 1) the only source (BoSs) is someone who said he doesn't have the whole story (and in fact could only say "most likely" because he's not an inside source), and 2) only two players declined, one of whom said he only wants to focus on Code S this season? Seems like Slasher probably asked a mod to make this a headline but it hasn't been fact-checked...

My two points still stand even if slasher got boss to go on the record saying "most likely".

Story is misleading using very weak sources.

Due to the misleading nature of not just the article, but the title as well, the article should be removed.

Really bad uninformed thread, needs to be closed or edited with the actual facts instead of slashers made up story.

FXOBoSs has now stated it was only his "opinion" that the ESF teams "withdrew" in order to send a message. When all we know is that MKP and Losira withdrew. So we actually have a headline on the TL homepage which is BoSs's opinion stated as a fact lol. GJ TL

Title says "ESF teams/players decline" and that is actually what they did.

You say "Only 2 players declined" which is not correct according to FXOBoss

It wasn't forced on players from ESF.. There are like hundreds of reasons why. For instance, Leenock wanted to focus on GSL. Some complained of lag, others complained of the fairness.

Personally, I think they deserved more invites also because of all the time and money thats been invested by them/us growing MLG.

You say they took an opinion as fact when the news always gave the quote from Boss "most likely", that doens´t even compute.

Just because "all we know is that MKP and Losira withdrew" doesn´t mean that´s all the informed people know. And that´s why there are reporters and team representatives (like Boss) who give at least a bit more info (or even opinions).

The only ones seeking for drama are you guys...

How can you even say that?! The boss of an ESF team comes in makes several posts explaining the situation and you say "he did not have insider information"...

Have you read the actual posts in question? FXOBoss gave his opinion as to why some players may have said no. He can only speak about why his player said no.

Let me be crystal clear. In every action taken by eSF as a whole unit, they have made an official declaration of their position. There is nothing here. Slasher has hung a giant accusation against an organized group of players on an opinion from FXOBoss, which is about the tournament and not player actions. The title for the article used in TL and Reddit IS NOT the same title used at Gamespot. The article is an announcement of the upcoming MLG MvP, that players have been released. And then suddenly there's this insinuation about eSF, followed by a rehash of the drama over OSL. Based on their past actions (detailed in that rehash), if this was an action by eSF as a whole, there would have been an official statement. You would NOT see MC still participating in the tournament, as MC (while not a member of eSF) still sides with them most often and has stood with them in the past.

There is no "insider information", just an opinion from FXOBoss. And further a simple statement saying (in essence) if you want to know why players aren't going, ask the teams and players. His posts didn't "explain the situation", he explained HIS quotes about HIS team member and HIS opinion. Nowhere does FXOBoss say, or even imply, that he is speaking for the entire eSF organization.

Just because a wild and potentially damaging speculation comes from Slasher should not provide any protection from the same standards of moderation that would be leveled against some 1-post shill (or even myself). Slasher misrepresents his article in title, hangs a gigantic accusation on threadbare evidence, and is using that (intentionally or accidentally) for blatant self-promotion. Hell, the "More info at the jump." part of his OP is something usually used in articles online to indicate that the article continues after a break in formatting (an ad), and the only parts of the article in the OP are the most inflammatory, most likely to have someone click the link back to the article.

TL; dr - Slasher misrepresents the article, implies huge drama, drives people to gamespot. Why is this not in "Sponsored Threads" at least? I've seen people banned over better documented accusations.

No it was no action by eSF as a whole, and I see this nowhere in the TL news. If he says so on Gamespot perhaps you should complain over there and not here.

And once again how can you say he (edit, FXOBoss for clarification) has no insider info when he posts the line
It wasn't forced on players from ESF.. There are like hundreds of reasons why. For instance, Leenock wanted to focus on GSL. Some complained of lag, others complained of the fairness.
that is insider info...

That some people make the worst out of the news on TL is probably more a sign of their stance to Slasher over all (lol at you sig).

The news on TL is "eSF team/players decline invitation" and what do we have? Players declined invitation (several, different reasons are given by FXOBoss with his opinion added), and with all invited players declined what would you say about the teams?
And is it news to you? Perhaps not, for me it is, so I don´t see what´s wrong with it being in "Community News".

It shouldn't be on the homepage because its not notable. It would only be notable if ESF declined in unison use to a fairness dispute. As it stands, it's no more notable than specific players declining invites to past Arenas (or any other tournament for that matter). Given the context of a tournament focused on Kespa, the inclusion of this headline on the homepage can easily be read to be an implication that there's a fairness dispute (after all, why else would it be notable?). And indeed, many posters in the thread are assuming it to be a fairness dispute, saying things like "I support ESF's decision".

I understand that the mods don't owe anyone an explanation, but as a curious user, I'd like to know (if the information is something they're comfortable sharing, of course) why that thread was deemed noteworthy in the first place. Seems like the whole thing is set up to mislead hurried or already opinionated readers into assuming speculation is fact.

Ah good to know that you paddle back from your OP and it´s now about not being notable (you make quite a fuss about it for that btw).

I find it really interesting for several reasons:
  • MvP invitational is different as planned because other players participate
  • really many declined, Scarlett dropped out (adding Stephano would have been good, but I guess that was not know yet)
  • Although not being the reason for declining many ESF players/teams seem to be unsatisfied with the way the invitation where distributed. This is stated by/for FXOBoss and Leenock

On September 27 2012 09:08 FXOUnstable wrote:

I cannot comment on other players however the conversation with Leenock went along these line. "do you want to play in MvP?" "no too busy with gsl/gstl no time, but kespa 24 esf 8 wtf? sad"

So it was noted by the players but it certainly wasn't all of ESF banding together to not play in the league

This is imo very noteworthy, esp for future events for every party involved and not involved.

That there are people left and right that missread the OP or fantasies about what Slasher could be meant is not really his fault. He never said in his news "ESF boycott MLG" like many make it sound like.

^the only thing I backpeddaled from in the op is the detail about only two players declining. BoSs knew about one player, and the quote he went on the record for (and is the central piece of evidence for the article) was a guess by him, which was why he said "most likely". He had no insider info on anyone but Leenock. So my central point has remained - it shouldn't be on the homepage because it hasn't been established that ESF acted in unison.

And thankfully, the TL mods recognized that you're wrong .

Well I quoted Boss 3 times where he talked about several players, if you still didn´t read it and think he don´t know anything go ahead! Btw

that´s exactly what you implied in ~7 posts. Like I always said it was never in the thread that it was an unison decision just in readers imagination.

Yeah, a bit sad they took it down from News, I would have instead hired an A cappella group and let you wake up from them singing the news for a week.
Like I pointed out there are several interesting points in it. But you made enough drama about something not noteworthy

A thead title can be not incorrect but intentionally misleading. Also, the OP of the ESF thread is intentionally misleading and all the quotes of FXOBoss taken out of context. Tbh, I found the moderation of the ESF quite peculiar and from a distance, it's quite easy to conclude conspiracy theories.

The interesting part I found is that it was Nazgul who renamed the thread and was the one who took action - he rarely gets involved unless it's something high profile - why was it that he was the one who took action and not another mod? Why is Slasher given such latitude to post whatever he likes? Why did another senior mod feel that they could not take action and left it to Nazgul?
