Hi TL!
In the last few months, I purchased a new gaming computer. My rig has the following specs:
Intel Sandy Bridge -E I7-3930K 3.2Ghz 12mb Cache Unlocked CPU LGA2011 Gigabyte X79-UD5 Motherboard G-Skill Ripjaws Z 16GB DDR3 2133 Black Edition Ram (4 x 4GB) Corsair Liquid Cooling System OCZ Vertex 4 128GB SATA3 SSD 1TB SATA3 HDD Bluray Rom/ DVD/CD Writer Radeon HD7970 3GB Graphic Card OCZ 750W Bronze Certified Modular PSU Coolermaster 692 Advanced Gaming ATX Case.
I purchased this computer so that I was able to play the latest games on the highest settings, while also streaming them. In the end, I was unable to stream, because the Radeon HD7970 GFX card was not compatible with the program Xsplit (info here: http://www.xsplit.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=2&t=5058) I was pretty annoyed, and did some more research, finding a new thread a short while later, with information referring to unofficial drivers that worked better than the current ones, (thread here: http://www.xsplit.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=91&t=12055). I installed the Catalyst Control Centre that came with the unofficial beta driver (found here: http://www.rage3d.com/board/showthread.php?t=33992611) and I thought all would be well. I tried streaming and huzzah! It works! I can stream for as long as I want without the program crashing. But alas, with the good also comes something bad.
When I enter a game, after a random period of time, the screen goes black with a message 'no signal' appearing seconds later. A few seconds after that, I get a kind of 'white noise' coming through my headset. I'm looking towards the drivers as being the main problem in all of this, however I'm not sure what I should do to fix the problem. It happens randomly in any game I play, and occasionally outside of games, which makes it difficult to use my computer.
Hopefully I will be able to get some help! I'm not 100% confident with my computer skills in regards to fixing hardware faults, so I may need step by step guides, if possible, but I'm sure we can get to that later. Also, if any more information is necessary, please, let me know and I will get back to you as soon as possible. No doubt I'll be keeping a very close eye on this thread in the next few days. Thanks in advance for your help!

Are you using the HDMI sound from your card or something?
I would also run Furmark and see what happens. Temp and stability wise.
When you remove these drivers, is everything just fine?
I havent tried removing these drivers yet, wanted a few opinions from the forum. According to the xsplit/rag3d forums, the drivers worked reasonably well for other people, which is partially why I'm concerned. I'm not using the HDMI sound from my card, as far as I'm aware. I have no loose cables connected to the graphics card or to the monitor, so that definitely isn't the issue. I'll run a Furmark test and post the temps here. Stay posted. Thanks

Its the white noise that makes me go "what the fuck" with your problem. Trying to see if you arent having a completely unrelated problem.
Out of curiousity, which Furmark test should I run as a good indicator? Yeah, I was a bit curious about that also. There is no real reason that my gfx card should cause my headset to stop running. Unless its the PSU or motherboard? I didnt even think of this earlier, but as soon as the monitor dies, the fans inside my case die also. Light at the front of my case continues to stay powered on though. So confusing..
On second thought, not sure if the fans die, or return to their regular operating speed of 20%. I set them to run at 60% fan speed through the Catalyst Control Centre. Will change back to 20% and inspect again next crash and report here. In the meantime, which Furmark test would be best to run?
Ok, I ran Furmark and my PC crashed within 4% completion. It was at 54% GPU and 50ish degrees.
Rollback your drivers and run it again.
Make sure you use driver sweeper and the like to completely remove the drivers.
Would I be able to get a link to a good quality driver sweeper? Also, best method to rollback drivers?
I think its literally called DriverSweeper.
Best way to rollback is to remove all drivers and then install new drivers that arent beta. Just use the latest Catalyst release, 12.6 or whatever.
Ok so I deleted my drivers and reinstalled the current ones. Starcraft II wouldn't work because I installed the drivers prior to Patch 1.5. Redownloading both now, hopefully it is all fine!
Ok, tried Furmark again after the new driver install, it crashed my computer only moments in. Seems like it wasn't actually the drivers that were the problem. I have no idea what to do from here.
I think your card is dying. Contact the manufacturer of your card and see what they think.
That would be right, they already gave me one as a replacement for the first one that was faulty and also broke my motherboard. Not too happy with this GFX card at the moment.
Thanks for all of your help Medrea, if you have any more ideas with this, let me know, same with anyone else. I'm going to be contacting the manufacturer tomorrow to try and sort this out.
You actually havent mentioned the manufacturer yet.
Ah yeah. HIS not the greatest supplier IMO.
I realise that now. The manufacturer for the first RadeonHD7970 was PowerColour.
I prefer XFX or Sapphire personally. My 7970 is an XFX.
