KT Flash: "Last BW OSL? It's like sending my lover away."

Source

He was the “Ultimate Weapon” as usual. It was awkward for us to see such a great player like him play in the Tiebreakers, but he was set on protecting his pride and went to the Ro8 with two clean wins. With talks about this being the last BW Starleague slowly coming out, Flash now has the chance to become the only player to win the Starleague 4 times, and he expressed his determination not to let go of this opportunity.

Q: You advanced to the Ro8 with 2 straight wins. How do you feel?
A: I feel good that I advanced but I feel so sorry for Action. I will work extra hard to produce good results for him.

Q: You were in the tiebreakers for the first time in a long time.
A: I was unsatisfied with my game against Bogus, but it became a chance to reflect upon myself and it was a good experience. I think I was able to get 2 wins today thanks to that.

Q: I don’t think you’re at 100% condition recently.
A: The people around me worry a lot about me. Before, even in losses, my performance in game was good, but nowadays even my performance was falling. My games looked like I didn’t practice much as a result. However, I wasn’t discouraged and thought only about climbing back up and worked hard. I don’t prepare for the game in front of me sloppily. I do my best every game, so please don’t worry about that.

Q: One loss and people are saying you won’t succeed in SC2. Isn’t that hard to hear?
A: To be honest, I experienced it many times, so I don’t get too shaken up by it. All I can say about SC2 is that I am doing my best. I only started playing it a month ago, so I consider myself a rookie. I will just have to show good results later.

Q: You said yourself that you are lacking in persistence.
A: In SC2’s case, it’s really hard to turn a game around. No matter the opponent, if you fall behind once, it’s hard to come back, so I have a tendency to surrender early. I thought that that habit carried over into BW and before I knew it I started giving up early. That won’t be the case from now on.

Q: Your 4th Starleague win is before you.
A: Isn’t it a grand record? It’s what I always dreamed of. I would be so proud of myself. I’ll get a lot recognition for it, right? (laughs) I heard that this would be the last BW Starleague, so for me this Starleague is very special.

Q: Any last comments?
A: I am very sorry to Action. If he wants to eat anything, I will buy it for him. Not long time ago, Action’s parents called my dad and said, “It doesn’t matter who goes up since they’re both my sons.” I am so thankful to them.
There’s a lot of talk about this being the last BW Starleague. I was so confused. BW is the game that lifted me up to where I am today and my treasure chest, so it was such an important part of my life. I was so sad thinking that I would have to say good bye to it. I was always thankful to BW. However, this is the time of a new challenge, so please look forward to a new Flash.

STX Mini: “Thank you, Fantasy.”

Source

Mini is the last Royal Roader standing in Tving Starleague. His games are on a different level compared to those of other Royal Roaders, and advanced to the Ro8 with 2 straight wins. Mini played many impactful games which earned him nicknames like “Shield Battery of Love,” and they’re reasons to look forward with bigger anticipation to his future games.

Q: You won the battle of the Royal Roaders decisively.
A: I feel good knowing that I played better than the other candidates. I am also happy to have advanced to the Ro8.

Q: You were very bold in your games.
A: I thought for sure that I was better than my opponents and had a higher chance to win. I think that’s why I was so confident in myself.

Q: In the first game, Rush got his CC down early.
A: I thought that I would be able to play the game on my terms if I attacked with my probes. I predicted that he would build CC before the Barracks, so I was able to counter it like that.

Q: You use reavers often. You must love the reaver.
A: I think the reaver is better than the high templar or any other unit. If it listens to you, it’s very pretty (laughs). I am confident I can make it listen to me. I believe in my reaver (laughs).

Q: You were in good form recently, but that Proleague loss must’ve made you anxious.
A: Honestly, I worried a lot. Before, I thought that I would keep going up and up, but losing suddenly like that made me a little uneasy. However, I was still confident.

Q: From Ro8, you have to play in multi-game series.
A: If it was a Bo3, I would’ve thought that it was okay, but a Bo5 is a little hard. Looks like I need a lot of advice from Coach Soo. I need to prepare builds for five games, after all.

Q: Who do you want to meet in Ro8?
A: I think that someone who’s aggressive early like Shine would be more comfortable. Preparing would be easier if I only have to think about defending. Zero’s style is management, so preparing against him would be more complicated. In PvP games can be decided by builds, so I feel burdened by it.

Q: I think advancing 2nd was more helpful to you.
A: Advancing 2nd in group means not meeting Flash or Fantasy, so I feel really good (laughs). If Fantasy didn’t pick me and advanced 1st in group I might’ve had to face against tougher opponents, so thanks to Fantasy I was able to avoid very tough opponents.

Q: Any final comments?
A: First I would like to thank Fantasy for creating this group. In Ro8, I will show good games, so fans please cheer for me.

STX Hyvaa “I won’t be satisfied with just advancing to Ro8.”

Source

An unexpected reverse happened. STX Soul’s Hyvaa beat Hydra, a champion, and Soulkey, who’s considered the top zerg today, and advanced to the Ro8 for the first time in his life. Hyvaa joined the Ro8 after the 2nd round of tiebreakers and he could not hide his joy. After his game he pledged, “I don’t want to remain in the Ro8, but advance to the finals and hold that championship trophy up for all to see.”

Q: How do you feel advancing to Ro8 after the 2nd tiebreaker?
A: The time between me becoming a progamer and advancing to Starleague Ro8 was too long. I could’ve advanced earlier, but I think I was negligent before. Even this season, wasn’t I the last one to advance to the Ro8? (laughs) I am still shaking right now but I am so happy.

Q: Did you think you would play in the tiebreakers for this long?
A: If I just look at the games, there was a good chance I could’ve won easily. However, my condition in my games kept being bad. Going back and forth between “lose-and-out” and “win-and-in” situations, I got nervous before I knew it. I regret that that affected my games negatively.

Q: Which game was the most difficult?
A: My games against Hydra were very hard. Ro8 was on the line against him, so I was very nervous and couldn’t play my game.

Q: How did you prepare for the tiebreakers?
A: I had to play ZvZs, so I focused more on studying builds instead of practicing. Since I was playing last and the games might start late, I got a good night’s sleep. Thanks to that, even though it was late, my condition was good.

Q: The matches are Bo5 from Ro8.
A: I don’t know about anyone else, but I want to avoid Fantasy. I might as well play against Jangbi and show off my confident ZvP. My style is wild and free, so I think I will be able to show many entertaining games in a multi game series.

Q: Your goal and determination for this Starleague.
A: It’s true that a progamer’s dream is to win a title. In this last BW OSL, I really want to be a champion. There’s not much time left before that. I will not dwell in the Ro8, but hold the trophy up in the finals.

Q: Anything else to say?
A: I want to thank my parents for always cheering me on. I want to show them that I am doing well through this opportunity. Please look forward to it.

And in my last Proleague match I was not able to play well due to equipment. Last week, the monitors changed, and I keep seeing my face on the monitor. I should only be able to see the game on the monitor, but I saw my face, so that bothered me and I was not able to play the game I wanted. Not just me, but Mini as well. I requested a monitor change, but they didn’t accept it. They said it’s because the opponent is in the same condition, but I think that even in the same condition, if a player is not able to play to his fullest in it, it’s only right to change the monitor. I hope that no player in the future is affected negatively because of equipment.

Flash, take a month off from SC2 and practice only BW please. As much as I want Zero to win this Starleague, it should be Flash's.

They're teammates, so yeah, they're close friends.

I hope Flash plays at least 80/20 BW right now so he'll win this last OSL. It would be a fitting end to it all.

They're teammates. Flash always has Action's back and often praises his skill in interviews, so I get the impression they're pretty close. It's probably hard on them that they were in the same group and one had to eliminate the other.

Yeah, Flash breaking the final record would be quite the send-off! I think it'll be a 3-way contest between Flash, Fantasy and Jangbi. Flash is about to re-enter god mode to lock in the last OSL, while the other two are playing phenomenally. It makes me sad that this saga will be so abruptly cut short...
May the BeSt man win.

I really do despise how difficult it is to make a turnaround in SC2. BW battles were big and spread out because of the unit limit, weird AI/pathing, and micro was something that had to be done continuously at a medium-high level, rather than at an absurdly high level for a very small proportion of the game. The bad AI/pathing, better high ground advantage, and difficulty of controlling larger armies as efficiently meant that it was possible to do big damage with good defensive positioning and/or a small army. In some ways, the larger your army got, the harder it was to win. This is definitely not the case in SC2 and I can't help but detest this game for killing a game I've played for over half my life.

This brings a tear to my eye. It's sad for Action to be eliminated like that, but teamkills always happen. The way Flash talks about Brood War is probably the way many progamers feel about the game, it's such an important part of their life that they now have to leave behind...

I have noticed that too, not only in my games but in pro games. overall it is really hard to turn a game around when you fall behind, it is easier to keep an advantage. In Broodwar i think you can turn games around easier if u are the better player. However, in SC2 while its harder, i think it is Terran the one that can turn games around more frequently or has a higher chance.
