Hi there guys,
I'm a Zerg player and I've had a problem with a particularly pesky friend, who while not great with his army composition tends to annoy me and my hatches with tons of banshee and drop play. I can fend it off but he keeps doing a ton of damage and eventually whittles me down. I try muta/hydra plays but the bugger tends to stick up loads of turrets or runs his banshees away before I do any significant damage, and I'm having a hard time countering it.
So what I'm asking from you fine gentlemen is some help crushing him into finely ground Terran dust. I've uploaded and put the the replays of some of our games here. So give it a download and send me some tips via PM or here (he may be watching <.< >.>).

Any advice to improve my build management (yeh my hotkeys and army management wasn't great I was panicking), composition, micro, timings and anything to help me effectively make him look like a class A noob would be greatly appreciated, as his banshee harass has gone on long enough!
Any really good advice I'll spend a week practising like crazy and I'll upload replays of our match next weekend of my horrible defeat or my glorious retribution.
P.S. I'm a bronzer so no throwing stones, verbal lashings will suffice.
Regards, Synboi, the bronzer with a dream.

You only really need mutas to deal with banshees and drops. Don't build hydras in ZvT, they melt to marine/tank and hellion/tank. I don't understand how the banshees are running away since mutas are faster than banshees. If they're cloaking then you need to bring an overseer.
In general, having good overload spread and minimap awareness is the best way to deal with drops/banshees. That will give you the advanced notice to minimize the damage taken.
Edit:
Watched the replays. Please use http://www.sc2replayed.com/ to upload in the future, much nicer than megaupload.
I really think you need to give up the roach hydra style your using. It's just not good against terran. Your lucky he never made more than 4 tanks and didn't move out with them. Even so mass marine with medivacs still holds up against it pretty well. Muta ling baneling will serve you much better.
With regard to the banshees. don't over commit to spore crawlers. 2 inside the mineral line is all you need. If he commits to alot of banshees just make more queens, you want to engage with in range of the spore crawler. Once mutas are out you should be able to shut them down pretty hard.
With regard to the turrets. If he builds a few turrets just fly around and find things to pick off, addons are particularly juicy. If he builds alot of turrets (like the ring around his entire base) The just lol, drone up and take an expansion. More static defence = smaller army.
Most importantly though, you just need to work on your fundamentals. Macro was really bad, constantly floating 2000 minerals. If you see your floating minerals and you cant keep up with your injects then start building extra hatcheries in your base. In general you want to: 1) never miss injects 2) never get supply blocked 3) spend all you money
As far was what to make, units or drones, see day9daily #194 + Show Spoiler +
Also, work on your map control. You wan't to keep lings and overlords spread out too see expansions and when attacks are coming.
I've said alot of stuff but most importantly: 1) ditch hydra roach 2) focus on macro

Ok I'd say listen to half of the above. Day9 just did a series about injects - look at that. And as the poster above said, don't float all those minerals if you can help it.
Roach/Hydra is strong and it's a good all round army. People on forums are too concerned with 'the counter', ignoring the actual game element of this game. I'm even working on hydraling vT so there you go.
~If you are going for a roach/hydra main army and he's going for banshee harass, your army will be out quick enough to push hard. Do that each game.

Some cool stuff here guys, does anyone else have any good tips. Also your league rank/race would be helpful too just to gauge your knowledge/strat level.
Edit: I tried uploading them to the replay site but I just get tons of errors so ditched it and went for mega upload.
Thanks!

I'm a plat Zerg playing plat and diamond players (last season). took a bit of a hiatus so far this season!
Oh and here's a great tip, which works wonders! 1) get baneling nest and burrow (burrow from lair tech) 2) morph 4 banelings 3) burrow two outside his ramp far from his vision, and two on an attack path. 4) select banes and right click 'burrow' to auto-unburrow as he approaches (otherwise you can manually detonate with x, which is better but harder to do)

First off, the unit composition you want is Muta/ling/bling. You should be fine just putting all your lings and blings on one hotkey and a+moving them at his army at bronze level.
And just fly your muta pack around the map and pick off anything you can. If he builds more than 3 turrets per mineral line, maybe stop producing mutas when you have a flock of about 10 and throw down an Infestation pit, then Lair, then Ultralisk Cavern and just pump Ultralisks.
They're a pretty good mineral sink for late game and require a hell of a lot less micro than a big muta flock picking off stuff.
EDIT: masters level zerg

Been trying a bit of ling/muta. It's quite good but those stimmed marines can be a bit pesky, is it best to bait them then run away and force stims?
|
Well yeah, but you're better off just running a few banelings into them.

That is a little too gimicky for a bronze to pull of. He should work on the basics fist which everyone else has been talking about.

If you have trouble spending, make more hatcheries and get more upgrades. Just put all hatcheries on one hotkey, even top masters do this. Banelings are pretty much a must in ZvT, make sure you get speed. If you find a queen with alot of energy spam some tumors. It will help alot with getting banelings to do damage. Get an overseer with your mutas to take out cloaked banshees.
Put a ling on his likely expos, it is really anoying when you send your worker to build and he gets attacked Also put lings on Xel'Nagas so you see him coming. When you do make more stuff.
Also if you're floating 2k that is 80 lings. I bet you could win if you had 80 lings more in your army...

I do quite a few baneling mine runs on 3v3s but haven't really had the chance to try it out in a 1v1. Great idea though, I'm fairly good with banelings.
Do you guys have any quick way to add units to specific control groups or exclude ones/type of units from a control group? I usually just shift add (or ntrl click them) them when I make them from the hatches but sometimes I end up sticking my workers in my army then spend a min or two sorting them out again :S.

Hey Synboi, maybe I can help =) I'm a master zerg coach, and if you hit me up on skype (rambomcfantastic) I'll be happy to work with you for free. Cheers! =)

Just wanna remember you of...Hydras suck ZvT. There is never a reason to build them.

Hi Synbol, if you have a group of units selected and press Shift+ a number it ADDS the selected units to the control group. So what I usually do is select all hatches (under 1 hotkey), morph a few of a specific unit, then Control+click the portrait of the eggs, which will select all currently morphing units, and then Shift+the group I want to add them to. In practice this could be 4szzzzzzzzzzzz for a bunch of lings, then Ctrl+click the eggs, shift+1 to add them to group 1, 4stttttttt for a bunch of mutas, ctrl+click the eggs, shift+2, etc. I hope this helps.

Best Stardroid But... but hydras are bad Oh and roaches arent that hot either

Hi Gold 1v1 Zerg. As others have said ling bling muta is very good against Terran and can stop banshee/drop play dead. It gives you the ability to counter attack very easiley when the terran moves out of possition. However it can also be very unforgiving since at your level it would be very easy to lose your entire army due to bad possitioning.
Since no one had mentioned them yet i may as well bring up the infestor. They may be slower but they can shut down banshee and drop play just as well as mutas and i feel they are much more useful when you have to engage the Terran army, fungal stops marines splitting or running from the banelings and neural paracite can take over any tanks etc he may have.
Also since you are bronze and i assume your friend is of a simular level something like burrowed infestor harass in multiple locations could quite easily force an all in to end the game and crown you champion.

Most of the people in this thread fail to realize that the OP is in bronze. Unit composition hardly matters. Roach Hydra could easily work. Mutas and infestors are too fickle and micro intensive, and lings require good injects. Banelings, roaches, and Hydras work well with a simple 1a.
OP: focus on macro. Whenever a battle is happening, make a conscience effort to not watch it. Inject, build units, overlords, upgrade, etc. Then send reinforcements if your army is still fighting. if not, oh well. You're most likely not too far behind because your opponent didn't macro during the battle. Just try to keep your money low even if you need 5 macro hatches, build something, Anything with your money.
