Dear Teamliquid.net users,

This is Mr. Chae.

I have good news to announce. Since we started the GSL it has always been our biggest goal to grow e-sports around the world and make it a truly global experience.

The Korean players enjoy competing on different stages around the world and will continue to compete in a variety of global events in the future.

Three Korean players will participate in the upcoming ESWC 2011 in October. The three invited players were determined via personal invitations based on GSL points and are very happy to be able to compete in a major global tournament.

We are honored to announce this cooperation and would like to thank ESWC for their generous support.

You may find the official announcement from ESWC below:

ESWC’s organizing committee is honored to announce its cooperation with Gretech (GOMTV) as national partner for Korea.
This partnership ensures the opportunity for Korean players to attend the ESWC 2011 StarCraft II®: Wings of Liberty™ tournament.
For the upcoming Grand Final there will be three Korean players selected.

The following GSL players will attend ESWC 2011:

Lee "MarineKing" Jung Hoon (Terran)
The terran player that ended up three times in the GSL finals, ESWC can be his next finals.

Jang Min "MC" Chul (Protoss)
Considered one of the best players in the world. The two times GSL Champion MC will be back in Europe.

Lee "Nada" Yoon Yeol (Terran)
The Genius himself attending ESWC and he's looking for a gold medal.

ESWC organizing committee is glad to welcome those players to the event.
The Grand Finals is taking place in Paris, October 21-25 2011. It has a prize pool of $200,000 and 7 official tournaments. The StarCraft II®: Wings of Liberty™ tournament will have a total prize of $66.000.
Make sure to keep track of our website, we will be updating our player- and team list regularly.

About ESWC
The Electronic Sports World Cup is a worldwide competition of video games, starting locally with national qualifying, to end with a World Final gathering all the cyberathletes and designed as a live show. More information about ESWC can be found at www.eswc.com.

About Gretech
Gretech is the developer of the popular media player GOM (Gretech Online Media Player). Gretech organizes in cooperation with Blizzard Entertainment the GOMTV Global StarCraft II®: Wings of Liberty™ League in South Korea. The GSL is online streamed and can be viewed at gomtv.net.

Thank you.

So does this mean SK (and possibly other foreign teams?) aren't boycotting seeing as MC/NaDa represent them at foreign events?

I thought a bunch of the foreign teams were boycotting ESWC, specifically SK in this case?

Great to see those in the tournament! I only hope MKP will really participate in it. He dumped some foreign tournaments before

lol Smack to the face of the western boycott imho. I'll definitely be watching now. I do wonder about SK though, but technically they don't own NaDa/MC so if they're getting there without the help of SK they can obviously still play since their main team is oGs and not SK. Hopefully that doesn't strain the relationship.

Edit: It only affects SC2 though so maybe not as excessive as I originally thought. :x

Unless you read their contract with SK you cannot make this claim.

Two of my favourite terrans and MC? Yay, I'm excited! :D

Why are the teams boycotting it then?

You're right, but again oGs is their main team so SK can complain but what will that do? Are they going to sue fan favorites NaDa/MC? Cut off support and have no one to represent them in the SC2 scene? Neither are really great ideas. Guess we can wait and see though.

all you have to do is look back to the last MLG, MLG payed for nada travel and board but he was still wearing his SK Ogs shirt, im sure the contract says that they will represent SK in ALL foreign events regardless of who pays for it. Honestly its not that big of a deal for ogs anyways, on the SK OGS shirt the OGS is clearly bigger and more visible anyways (at least as i remember it) and OGS still has quite a few (if not all) of their sponsors on the shirt.

To give you a small update:

Navi are defending champions and accepted their invite. They don't need to pay the fee and get hotel for free. Their boycott is/was for their dota team. As far as i know, the navi.cs will be attending. The navi dota has signed up for online qualifiers.

The CSS team of mTw are not boycotting (anymore). The signed up for the online qualifier and send in an application for an invite. No update from their CS 1.6 team.

The CS and CSS team from mousesports and HasuObs are playing in the qualifiers. HasuObs also send in an application.

Now the only ones that we do not have an update about are: sk-gaming 1.6 and fnatic. Oh and EG, but i think the event isn't very cost effective for their CS 1.6 team. I think/hope their sc2 players will attend the online qualification.

Kind of sucks that its the same weekend as blizzcon. They aren't going to get a lot of viewers for the sc2 part of it.
