I was lucky enough to get a Beta key to Starcraft 2 within the first week of their release. So I've pretty much been in the SC2 scene since the beginning. When i first started, like many others, I stumbled over Husky online. As soon as i found his channel, i watched every single video he put out on Youtube. I think i subscribed when he was around 30K subscribers. Serious hardcore Husky fan. As the months went on, i still watched Husky. Every. Single. Video. UNTIL.... I found Day[9]. I always heard of Day[9] from Broodwar, but never really watched his videos on Youtube. When i was in high-school, i was very hardcore into Broodwar. Played many local tournaments, got really into it. I knew of Day[9] from the BW scene, but, after i went off to high-school, I kind of got more into cars and photography. Back to Day[9], after i watched his Daily #100, it compelled me to get back into gaming. So I watched every Daily of his, UNTIL... The GOMtv GSL Open Season 1. This is where i really got into Starcraft. I now watch all the tournaments. All the IEM's, GSLs, GSTLs, MLGs, TSLs, Dreamhack, ect. ect... All the major tournaments, casted by all the major casters.
I watched the MLG this weekend (or rather, tried to, due to the streaming issues). While watching DJWheat, Day[9], and ItmeJP, I realized on how much i missed Tasteless and Artosis. Day[9] is good as a caster in my opinion. A GREAT analyst, but good caster. I HATED DJWheat when i first heard him on the TSL3, but he's slightly growing on me now that i basically spent 10 hours with him via the stream this weekend. I love ItmeJP on State of The Game, but as a caster.... He's no Tasteless or Artosis. Husky actually surprised me on how well he casted the TSL3. Going back to Huskies channel on Youtube, i can barely stand to watch any of his videos, but i was pleasantly surprised on how well he casted with a co-caster. TLO casting with Day[9] at the most recent IEM was slightly painful when comparing them to Tastetosis. I love TLO and his innovative play as much as the next person, but as a caster.... EGiNcontrol and Gretorp casting the show-match between EGIdrA and LiquidJinro was pretty trying for me. Most high-level players who try to cast usually come up lackluster to me, with the exception of Artosis and EGIdrA. When EGIdrA co-casted the GSL one night. I was actually shocked on how well he did.. But witch every tournament i watch, it leads me back to: "They are no Tasteless or Artosis."
I just finished watching the Round of 4 that happened last night on GOM. As soon as i heard Tasteless and Artosis i started feeling right at home.
Going back to my current situation, I've been coaching Zerg players recently, free of charge. I started two weeks ago. Since i started Coaching and streaming the sessions, i think I've coached about 40 hours between 12 or so players. Which don't sound like a lot, but i work as a Network Technician on a 40 hour week Monday-Friday. So all my free time goes straight into Starcraft. When im not watching tournaments, im either playing Starcraft (which hasn't been much lately since ive started free coaching), or coaching. Since i've started coaching, i have received thanks and gratitude from 4 separate top 200 zerg players on the N/A ladder. I was actually amazed that very high level players took time to shoot me a message. Felt slightly honored. But, i attribute me deciding to coach, to Tasteless and Artosis. The love and passion they have for the game is just unbelievable.
This has been a very odd post. And i would actually be surprised if anyone took time out of their day to hear me ramble-on about how much i appreciate these two casters.
When I think of Starcraft, my first thought is a Hydralisk :p, my second thought, is Tasteless and Artosis. Love you guys, keep it up! (and im very excited on how Artosis/Sixjax is going to do in the upcoming NASL)
TL;DR: Tasteless and Artosis, in my opinion, are hands down the most analytical, funny, and captivating casters that i have watched. And I've pretty much watched em' all!

This really belongs in a tastosis thread more than being its own thread.

It is true, while I have to disagree with most of the stuff Artosis writes on this site (his imbalance whiny junk).. as a caster, he is amazing. I would even put him ahead of Tasteless lately, as it seems Tasteless isnt as "passionate" about SC as he was back in earlier GOM events... Thats just how I feel, where as Artosis, you can really tell that guy lives and breathes starcraft.. Not only that, he understands casting and how to make it exciting and educational for the fans.
At this point, I really think even a major sports network could potentially hire Artosis to cast anything (assuming artosis knew the sport/event well enough).. but his control and intelligence as a caster (not just about the game, but casting itself) is phenomenal

I feel they are indeed some of the best casters at the moment, and mostly people are outwardly negative before they are positive and thankful. Gg casting archon much love

I agree 100%. I would honestly watch any sport he casted. I have turned about 5 friends onto the GSL. They dont even own starcraft, but love watching the GSL. I have a feeling they keep watching because how exciting they cast, and the amazing games that are played.

Agree with op. With skyze, I disagree with the above and feel like tasteless has a legit love of the game.
|
I agree with the OP, but I'd put djHHHwheat and Day9 combo on par with them. Hell, even Day9 solo casting would be equally enjoyable to me.

Out of curiosity, has that even happened recently (not calling you out, curious actually)? I haven't seen an Artosis post in ages lol, so long ago TT
Besides that, agree with everything else you said and the OP. Amazing combo that never gets enough praise imo. And especially Artosis as a caster, not only amazing analytically but loses a bit of appreciation when besides Tasteless as just a shoutcaster. At one of the most recent days of GSL WC, they were really just comparing voices and talking about the Tasteless voice and such, and how Artosis rarely gets hoarse, and has a VERY consistent and clear voice even though he's casting just as much as Tasteless (who uses a specialized speaking voice on-air, or so it seems).
Tastosis for life. Actually its funny, I had the exact same introduction to SC2 as the OP:

he does, but its not as much as the earlier GOM events, like if you go watch Tasteless from 2008.. now Tasteless like commonly forgets names of units/buildings and junk.. sometimes even repeats things artosis just said 2 seconds before.

This + OP = almost completely agree. I can only disagree with the Tasteless part, he loves SC just not the same way as before. Not less, just different. Tastosis is in a different dimension than everyone else. At first it was kind of awkward, but now they just nail pretty much everything!
They remind me of Joe Rogan and Mike Goldberg, the UFC commentators.

Gotta watch them all! But seriously watching isn't enough you need to catch them too.
And yes they are awesome :D

Many people say tasteless repeats artosis but for me i have actually heard artosis repeat tasteless more.
But those 2 are definately amazing casters and i enjoy everything they do

I don't blame him (tasteless) If you played bw since you were little i would find it hard to belive if you liked sc2 more than bw.

LOL what? Might want to leave baseless remarks out of your comment next time.
On topic, I love Tastosis too. Like your friend, I don't actually even own the game. I played during the beta for like 2 weeks at most. Actually, aside from those few days, I had never touched an RTS game before in my life. I'm actually not even a gamer LOL, but Tasteless and Artosis really make the whole esports buzzword have truth behind it. Like when people watch x sport and they don't actually play or ever played said x sport. Really entertaining, and after my initiation with them, I like watching the rest of all the other events / tourneys too, but GSL remains at the top mostly thanks to them.

I disagree with that, ive been playing SC1 since I was 12 (im 23 now) and I genuinely like SC2 more. I may miss the old days of Ladder Challenges with Nazgul/etc, or even early X17 days, but as far as the game itself and the "fun" factor, SC2 is great so far. I honestly think the majority of people feel the same. SC2 is brand new, has some kinks, but so far is pretty damn amazing. Its fresh and new.

Put me in for a plus one on this, except that it's mainly been the GS(T)Ls and TSL3 because of incredible fail skills on the part of other tournament producers and promoters. That and, some part of me has become really "Korean elitist", feeling that only the Koreans and foreigners in Korea are truly worth watching. TSL3 is changing that but GSW(T)L kinda confirmed it for me.

For me, Artosis has grown to become the best caster I know. He has always been great on the analytical site, and for a while now he has really improved his casting as well. Tastosis is great; sometimes I actually turn on GomTV more to listen than to watch.
|
OH! Archon, Like 2 high templars?
Just got that..

Tasteless and Artosis are awesome, but it's still no SuperDanielMan/Tasteless.
Tasteless was way more analytical about Brood War than he is about SC2, while still being incredibly funny. I wouldn't say he lost his passion, though. SC2 is still incredibly new, with builds being invented every five minutes, whereas he has been playing Brood War for a decade and knew the game like the back of his hand. He probably doesn't play SC2 as intensively as he played Brood War back in the day, either
|
Tastosis are awesome. Back in GOM's BW days they gave tasteless the mic and said GO. Now his job is to repeat the sponsors and ask for money, like the crippled critter on destination, "Hey you guys got a dollar". Hardcore tasteless fans will know what i'm talking about Lol.
Tasteless knows artosis is up to date on korean ladders, strats and leaves him to do the analysis and he just points things out for the noobs. I agree with the OP and currently they are by far the best duo.
