teamiCHOR.net announces its first South East Asia tournament for StarCraft II, aptly named the iCHOR Open #1. iCHOR has a long and successful lineage within across Asia and Australia’s e-Sports gaming community, having supported competitive teams in Jakarta, Hong Kong, Taipei and Sydney. We plan to hold a couple of tournaments over the next few months, with a progressive increase in prizes.
The iCHOR Open #1 will take place on 20 March, 2011, and will be open to 64 players with a first place prize of $40.
Please read the following information carefully
Sign up: Go to our website http://www.teamichor.net/ , create an account and then follow the prompts on the tournament tab. The tournament will be held on the 20th of March at 2pm GMT + 10 Sydney Time.
The Rules
The tournament will consist of 64 players in which will be a BO1 until the RO8. The rest of the tournament will be a BO3 until the finals which will be a BO5.
During the BO3 and BO5 rounds, the first map is mandatory with the loser of the first game being able to pick the second map and the loser of the second game picking the third map and so on. These maps must be chosen from the Map Pool below.
Please be on time as players who are late by 15 minutes from the start time will be disqualified and the opposing player will continue onto the next round. If you have applied for the tournament and would like to retract the application, please contact TALkori.830 or TAriiChard.272.
Refs and casters must be allowed into the game upon request. Spectators are allowed as long as both players agree but if observers lag or delay the game, they are required to leave.
Any anti-social behaviour such as bad manner is unacceptable and will result in disqualification. If you believe you are a victim of this please contact one of the administrators or myself. We will review the replay and make a non-biased judgement call on whether or not to disqualify the player.
Disconnects before 3 minutes game time will result in a rematch. If either player disconnects after 3 minutes, then the replay must be sent to teamichornet@gmail.com to be reviewed and we will judge whether or not the game would be replayed or give the win to the player with the advantageous lead.
Brackets will be randomized and posted up 5 minutes before the tournament starts.

Hi there,
I registered.
Then I also saw this $20,000 NRG hardcore gamer qualifier on the same day. (Why is there no separate post for this btw? It is like a mini GSL in Sydney!)
Then I noticed the first qualifier is the same day as your tournament ...

In regards to the NRG tournament, I'm investigating it at the moment, it seems too good to be true (and most often in e-sports, it is).

Still has to be better than $20 first prize even if it's $20,000 of mousepads.

What if it is $20k in store credit. Maybe you can use that for some private time at the LAN cafe?

teamiCHOR is not running the NRG event, so I don't know why they don't have their own seperate post.
Just curious for future events, would players prefer for example, $200 in cash or $150 + gaming gear for first place prizes?
|
Everyone would prefer cash unless the gaming gear is 1) useful or 2) easy to sell. Gaming gear would probably be preferred over very small prizepools like this, though, as it's more practical.

Cash of course!
I would imagine it would be cheaper for sponsors to outlay gear though. So the question is more relevant if it is $200 cash vs $150 + $75 (for eg) in gaming gear, then it becomes a bit more subjective.
