The Second Speed Demos Archive marathon is on the horizon, Dubbed "Awesome Games Done Quick," the marathon will start January 6, 2011, at 21:00 GMT (+00:00). We'll be playing through 100 popular games as quickly as possible while raising money for the Prevent Cancer Foundation, which focuses on research and education for preventable cancers.
That's right, 100 games. We're not cheating by picking 100 short games, oh no, epics like Chrono Trigger, Metroid Prime and Ocarina of Time are also being completed in times that could well blow your mind. The whole thing will be live streamed free with commentary by all the speedrunners there and it's set to be a blast! We've got special events planned like a BattleToads Race accompanied by Piano, an attempt at Blind Super Mario Bros and someone actually finishing Ghosts 'n' Goblins.
But what's special about this marathon? Well the main part is that it is being run by SDA, the premiere Speed Running Website on the internet that people in the know head to when they want to know what the fastest records for games are. SDA, like TL, is a hardcore niche website and all the speedrunners are very good at what they do. We're talking world-record times here! Who else could complete 100 games in 5 days? Check out the schedule to see what's planned! The stream runs all day and all night, delivering non-stop top speed running action. I will link to the stream page when available.
So why am I telling you guys this? Well, not only was the previous marathon Classic Games Done Quick an amazing watch but it was so good that I knew I had to be at the next one. I'm flying from London to DC just to take part in this and we, especially me, need your support! Tune in to the marathon and maybe make a few donations and tell your friends. I will be playing Bayonetta on Monday 10th Jan at 07:10 GMT (+00:00) so please tune in and do some shout outs for TL.net! I'll be wearing my TL Pony shirt for sure. Or Pajamas. It's quite late. (TL Pony Pajamas?)
The marathon started slowly last year when not too many people knew about it, but by the finale of Final Fantasy VI, we had thousands of viewers and took in over $11,000, most of which was in the last 10 hours. I hope you guys check it out. If people donate $207,540.06 to watch a bus drive slowly, I think we can should be able to get a great turnout.
I'd just like to thank TL.net for giving me permission to promote this event =D.
So, what games are you guys interested in?

Very cool. I didn't see this thread the first time around and this is something I'll tune into if it fits my schedule.

Looks awesome! I'll definitely try to tune in for a bit.

I would be watching even if you weren't playing in the event. Good luck!

It's a very large undertaking. I know someone IRL with two runs on SDA (one since obsoleted), so I know what it's like. May the RNG smile on you all!
Personally I prefer seeing actual submitted speedruns, but this is still awesome. In a way, it's a little more exhibitionist, and a little less masochistic.

SDA is one of my favorite sites just because so many of the runs that get submitted are mindblowing. Having everything commentated by speedrunners has sold me on this event.

last year this was so amazing I watched almost all of it, only slept a few hours for the entire thing. to bad I won't be able to watch much of it this year as I have exams the 11th and I have lot of studding to do T_T

There's only about 14 hours left until this kicks off. I'm super excited for it. Last year's was fun, and it'll all be available to watch afterward if you miss it. I really recommend watching anything piano related. Pianotoads was a huge highlight from last year.
Also, obviously, it's for charity, which makes it even better. Unlike Flicky though, I doubt I'll be in chat--it gets a little too hectic for my tastes--it's like watching the old b.net attack videos when the channel would get super spammed by 37 some odd people trying to get a game. My brain can't handle it all .

Stream is up and running.

Are you doing your playthroughs legitimately, or are they tool-assisted?
|
|
Everything is done on console. So all games will be done in real time as you see them.
|
is the website experiencing some traffic problem atm?
|
Uh, I really like SDA, so I'm definitely gonna watch as much as possible.
/edit: Meh, another stream for the commentary, my connection can't handle that :/

Go watch the games that you played a lot in your childhood, or games that infuriated you.
You will be amazed at how thoroughly some of these "impossible" games can be destroyed.
