some of the newer posters seem to be making mass crappy posts when, in the previous era, they would lurk more. i think some of them are trying to get a better rank (the little fun icon thing)
so yes, bad posts = ban right? well if u dont think it deserves a ban, then what other option do u have besides allowing the rampant spamming?
u could pm them and tell them that their post sucked. from an admin, that would mean a lot. in fact i think this would be nice if it happened before anyone got to the piont where they earned a ban.
if someone does something u dont like, why not (at least) pm them and tell them about it. give them a chance to listen to you plz before u let them become so mislead by the lack of disapproval that they work their way up to a ban.
but what if they dont listen or suck at listening? sure u could ban right then. i dont have a prob with that.
but for these newer posters, like the scvs, drones, and probes, maybe u could just take away from their post count a bit. maybe a pm that says "ive taken away 100 of ur posts because of the following posts u made: etc etc they all suck".
u might think "y bother" but seriously if you love life and stuff youll want to give these people a chance to improve rather than shoving them down the downward spiral of being a stupid asshole who keeps making new accounts and gets banned every couple months and never improves the quality of their posts at all

Maybe we can use that feature that Saro input that lets me adjust your "rank" on the icons. Maybe if we have a rank that's like -1 or one below the lowest, that would be something like "Warned" or something so they know they have been warned. And maybe script so whenever somebody demotes them to that rank, they get an insta-pm so I don't have to do the dirty work of actually sending a real pm. We are all lazy, keep that in mind.

i like the idiot of the week idea. if there is too much competition we could make TWO idiots of the week. something like that. and idiots of the week actually lose post count each time they post.

its not to be mean, its just right now, there is some (however ridiculously irrelevent) incentive for people to make as many horrible posts as possible as long as they dont get banned. this state exists because of the current policy. some kind of policy change could remedy the potentially problematic state.

on second thought, idiot of the week is not a good idea much the same way that pink icon idea was not: there are people who would WANT to be the idiot of the week simply because the icon is different and therefore special.

i just think its clear that if u care about the quality of something u participate in (unlike dang, apparently) then u should offer any ideas u have.
i think right now a lot of shitty ppl have started posting all at once, more than ever before. i dont know if this is just a popluation shift due to linkage, just.. the word of mouth spreading pattern finally passing a certain threshold or what. but if the new ranks have anything to do with this trend we should nip that sucka in the bud.
but we cant just ban everyone who gets off on the wrong foot. at the same time, something should happen to let people know their posts are not going in the right direction. personally i wish i would get pm'd more when ppl dislike my posts, i always like 2 learn. maybe some of my posts are too lazy, but hey, if i get some feedback maybe i can work a little harder

I realize this was unclear. Stimey great idea again. PLus, the person that thought of idiot of the week was dead on. I shudder to think of what stimey might do if his creativty and drive was applied to something in real life.

I think "Idiot of the week" or an special avatar is not a good idea because of the reason that Hot_Bid said.
Anyway I think that everyone should get a warning before being banned, just a PM from an admin could be enough. Maybe that way someone who's posting garbage might change his attitude and start doing better posts (or at least not that stupid).
