Grudgematch Battle Report: CatZ vs Drewbie

The Story
After numerous stream problems Drewbie lost to Ryze on Sanshorn Mists. CatZ popped off at the mouth and said he could easily 10-0 Drewbie on that map and Drewbie responded with he could 10-0 CatZ. Thus the match was spawned. An epic best of five series covered by the ballers Raelcun and prodiG who stayed up late to cover this conquest of the eons after the ITL.

The massive hatred that these two Root gaming teammates have for each other fueled some pretty brutal trash talk. What you may see in these battle reports is not for the light of heart.

The Battle Report

Game 1: Sanshorn Mists

After some pre-game trash talk game one began. Both player's hearts raced as they struggled to come up with a witty line to supplement their openings. CatZ opted for Hatchery before Pool, a reasonably safe build on Sanshorn Mists given the longer rush distance. His opponent and nemesis Drewbie opened fast Hellions.

It didn't work (note the lack of units in the main of CatZ on the minimap

CatZ proceeded to try to drone back up and create a wall-in at the ramp to his natural to protect himself while he rebuilt a damaged economy. Unfortunately, the wall did not complete in time to block Drewbie's Blue Flame Hellion follow-up attack.

The vast amount of Marines Drewbie is able to create allows him to demolish his Zerg opponent and move on to game two of this epic series, leaving CatZ with the tilt.

Game 2: Enigma

Game 1 portrayed some disappointing gameplay from our Peruvian Zerg, who really showed that Hatch into Pool into more Drones loses to Hellion harass. Looking to have a better performance in game 2, CatZ again opens with a fast expansion, which is even safter thanks to the extraordinarily large rush distance on Enigma

Drewbie exchanges early game pleasantries: "Bad luck, don't have fun, bad game"

Knowing that his Zerg opponent is on tilt, Drewbie decides to open up with mind games into a wall-less fast expansion.

"idra freewin build" is the Hellion opening from game 1, coined by Drewbie.

As the drone enter's Drewbie's base, he steals his own gas so CatZ cannot. Early double gas generally signifies a tech heavy build, such as Banshees.

CatZ under the impression that Drewbie is planning some 2 gas all-in play. He couldn't be more wrong...

After scouting Drewbie's fast expansion, CatZ uses Roach/Speedling bust. It's super effective!

On to game three.

Game 3: Fighting Spirit

Game 3 of this set saw some of the most innovative Terran vs Zerg play the world has ever seen, and I am glad to have the privilege to share it with everyone here at TeamLiquid. The score is tied up at 1 win each and emotions are flaring as we move into the third match on Fighting Spirit. In this game we will see strategies practiced exclusively in the root gaming professional e-house (probably a ventrilo server) as well as some truly unique ego timing attacks to show that Starcraft 2 is a game of much, much more than making guys and attacking ur opponentz base. It is a game of relentless psychological warfare.

Both players opted for fast expansion builds on yet another map that favors the style. Drewbie walled in at his natural, and after scouting it CatZ prepares a Baneling bust.

Drewbie's cleverly placed bunkers will give this bust a run for it's money.

Bunkers save the day!

After seeing CatZ' play in game two and the blocked Baneling bust, Drewbie does not skimp on defense as he reveals the first of what will be many standard-changing Terran strategies.

Ain't no Banelings busting in here.

CatZ proceeds to take a third expansion to match Drewbie's, and begins teching to... well... everything, because he needs to in order to beat Drewbie's psych Terran style. But Drewbie is no fool, he had a plan for these Barracks all along.

Looking to solidify an advantage, CatZ takes out the rocks in the center and takes the double Gold expansion, which will skyrocket his economy and allow him to put his build everything strategy into overdrive.

Once Drewbie spots this he prepares a mass +1/+1 Viking attack to deny the expansion, while securing a fifth for himself.

Fungal Growth tends to make Vikings a lot less good.

After the battle for the center, CatZ launches an assault at the newly completed fifth expansion.

THAT IS MANY FORTRESS, YES?

Hellbent on destroying at least one expansion, CatZ sends in a commando group of elite banelings to snipe Drewbie's fourth Command center, allowing CatZ to take the economic lead.

There was an expansion there two seconds before this screenshot was taken.

However, Drewbie has been sitting comfortably while he prepares his lategame plan. Tapping into his inner FireBatHero, Drewbie is now ready to reveal what will surely be a game changing unit.

3/3 Battlecruisers with Behemoth Reactor and Yamato Cannon.

The first engagement has allowed this Battlecruiser to attain rank Captain as it sprays awesome laser-y death at the squishy Zerg below

The second engagement leaves a single Commander ranked Battlecruiser alone on the battlefield.

The onslaught continues as the Battlecruiser fleet moves on to annihilate Catz' double gold expansion

In the time that these battles took place, CatZ was able to amass a sizeable amount of Infestors and finally remembered to research Neural Parasite. If he controls well, he will be able to turn this game around and pull ahead in the series!

A few too many tentacles and CatZ will have taken control of all of the targets, forcing him to spend valuable time attack-clicking Battlecruisers he already controls!

CatZ not quite ready to come out of the closet with his tentacle fetish quite yet, as all of his Infestors ran out of mana and then got barbequed by orbital lunch cannons

All in all, a fantastic game from either side. Drewbie introducing the community to some very unique and successful Terran styles such as the 8rax Baneling proof wall-in into full map scout, to his stall to 3/3 Battlecruiser play. CatZ' play seemed to fall apart after the Baneling bust failed as he was not able to secure a significant advantage, likely due to Drewbie's intense psychological style. Drewbie is now ahead in the series 2-1, and CatZ will have to win convincingly in order to balance out his ego with the series score. Both players earned many BM points, however Drewbie comes out on top of this matchup thanks to his FBH-esque Battlecruiser play. Raelcun also dropped mid-way through the game, so the players had some time to reflect and prepare for the next match as Raelcun viciously pleaded with the stream gods to allow him to broadcast this spectacle to all of the live viewers.

Game 4: God's Garden

Game 4 was a very important game for CatZ. He was behind on both BM points and match score, and needed to steamroll the living shit out of Drewbie in order to get back on top. CatZ playing very standard again opens with a fast expansion, while Drewbie has something else in mind...

CatZ has now seen that his opponent is trying to proxy barracks, so CatZ pulls workers and begins to take down Drewbie's undefended main with Drones. The BM points are flowing in~

Drewbie realizes that he must forfeit his main, so he does the only logical thing left to do: EVACUATE!

CatZ knows exactly where Drewbie wants to land, and sends a drone out to race the Command center in an effort to block it from landing!

It's gonna be close!

We gave this win to CatZ.

A short, but hilarious game. Drewbie again pioneering new developments with Terran, showing us that proxy barracks does not even come close to working in patch 1.1.2 by losing to nothing but drones and a few lings. CatZ has now tied up the series at 2-2 and equalized the bm score. On to the series finale, a return to Sanshorn Mist!

Game 5: Sanshorn Mist

Here we are. The grand final, the tie breaker, the battle of all battles. Both players are fuming at the ears and this game is sure to be filled with hurtful comments, stupid builds, and only one of these two champions will come out on top. In this series we've seen Drewbie take out CatZ with some Hellions and Marines, CatZ take out Drewbie with Drones, and both players battling it out to the bitter end in a FireBatHero vs Savior epic third game. All of the emotions, mind games and strategies culminate here in what is sure to be a truly epic final.

And then the mindgame follow-up

CatZ proceeded to hatch before pool like he did in Game 1 on the same map, but this time Drewbie has a different plan for him. A plan that will again surely shape Terran play styles for years to come.

Single SCV Depot+Bunker ramp wall-in Bunker Rush, or SSDBRWIBR for short.

CatZ drones were unable to steal the win this time as Drewbie was able to complete the bunker and get the Marines inside. The Supply Depot was not so lucky.

Not all hope was lost for CatZ as his spawning pool had finished just before and easily killed the bunker before it was able to do any serious damage.

After dealing with the SSDBRWIBR opening, CatZ prepares a Baneling bust while Drewbie has cleverly proxied a Command Center to be lifted to his opponent's island.

CatZ probably coined this the "Drewbie freewin build" after the game. Juicy Baneling target~

Drewbie's follow-up Banshee harass was easily blocked as CatZ has taken most of the map and has a large Mutalisk group ready to deal with any Banshee thread. Drewbie follows up by attempting to Thor+SCV drop.
