For the Fifth Starcraft Gaming League player Interview we chose ROOT.Drewbie. Drewbie is participating in the Intel Extreme Masters American Championships this weekend and here is a quick interview he took with the SGL about his upcoming events.
SGL:
Hello Drewbie! Welcome to the 5th SGL Player Interview! Thanks for being with us, tell us a bit about yourself and your gaming experience.
ROOT.Drewbie:
Hello, well I am not that interesting, I play Starcraft 2 a lot ;D The only game other than Starcraft 2 that played much of was BroodWar, and I played BW for about 10 years, not too seriously though. The last couple of years I played 2v2 pretty hardcore and made it to A on ICCup. I was never very good in 1v1 but when Starcraft 2 came out my computer was so bad that I couldn't play 2v2, and 1v1 is just a lot more fun anyway ;P
SGL:
You have the IEM American Championships coming up for this weekend with 5 of the 8 players being from ROOT Gaming, what are you and your teammates doing to prepare for the tournament?
ROOT.Drewbie:
Well sadly we have kind of been avoiding each other since we are all competitors now, LOL. But I have been laddering a lot and practicing with other players outside Root. The only other player going to IEM who I really play much with is qxc, we talk strategy and practice a lot. SUGGY has been working very hard and he refuses to play vs me, or talk strategy... I'm a little bit worried about playing vs him at IEM lol, and of course KiWiKaKi is in top shape as always.
SGL:
For the finals you have been played in Group A with Huk, Suggy and Murder. How do you feel about being put against these players?
ROOT.Drewbie:
I think its a really lucky draw for me. I have a lot of trouble tvt agaisnt cauthonluck/qxc/fenix they are all so good. Murder has been a bit inactive lately but he is really good tvt too so I'm not too sure what will happen with him. I've done fairly well agaisnt SUGGY and huk lately though and I've been working a lot on my TvP so I'm pretty confident about advancing past the group stage.
SGL:
Do you have any opinions on Group B? Who would be the 2 players you would like to move on from the other group?
ROOT.Drewbie:
Well of course I will be rooting for my teammates, I will be very happy if Fenix loses haha ;D
SGL:
You also have MLG DC coming up in a few weeks. What is your goal for the tournament?
ROOT.Drewbie:
Hmm, I haven't thought too much about MLG. At MLG Raleigh I thought i played really good on day 1, my win agaisnt Socke really helped my confidence, but I choked pretty badly on day 2 and ended up in 12th place. So, hopefully i get a decent draw and can make it into the money, that would be nice. Oh yeah, and I hope I get matched up agaisnt idra, I will destroy him with my imba race ^^.
SGL:
Now let's take a few questions from your fans on TeamLiquid.net! Trollish asks: What are your thoughts on TvP balance; is protoss favored late game on same bases?
ROOT.Drewbie:
TvP is a really hard matchup. Theres 2 kinds of P users, the macro tosses and the allin tosses. Agaisnt the allin tosses, you just have to stop their first attack and you win. But I feel like in the late game, P units are more cost effective than T units. It's not necessarily imbalanced, because if T keeps the pressure on the entire game, then they can out expand the P.
SGL:
Telcontar asks: Is there any intention from ROOT Gaming to try their luck at the GSLs?
ROOT.Drewbie:
Well, we are a bit short on money for that to happen any time soon, but we are working really hard on finding sponsors to help us out with that. For me, I would go in a heartbeat if things worked out and a few of our players could go together, and I know I'm not the only one ^^
SGL:
Carefoot asks: What has been your most satisfying series thus far and do you see a future of rivalry from this same player in the future?
ROOT.Drewbie:
Hmm thats a tough question. I think the most satisfying was the gosucoaching tournament where I lost the first game of the finals agaisnt huk when he mothership rushed me ( omg that was the worst game ever ) and then I came back and won the series 2-1 to win my 2nd gosucoaching tournament. Me and huk have had some pretty intense games, and we tend to go back and forth pretty evenly, I would love more than anything to 2-0 him at IEM. Also we are pretty good friends too, but both very competitive.
SGL:
And for the last question, Chairman Ray asks: A few years down the road, if SC2 does not make it as an e-sport, what will your plans be?
ROOT.Drewbie:
Hmm I don't know, I haven't really thought about it at all. I could try my luck at another game but most likely I would just go back to school and get a regular job lol. Diablo 3 is comin out soon, we'll see what happens !!
SGL:
Well thanks a bunch for participating in the 5th SGL Player Interview! Do you have any shoutouts or anything to add before you go?
ROOT.Drewbie:
Thanks for interviewing me it was fun, gl with the clan league... Root will continue to dominate it though ;D Got to shout out to CatZ <3 best leader ever and the rest of Root of course, I never want to be in any other team.
A big thank you to Drewbie for the interview, and to Zowie for helping make the league possible!
