Surrounded by rumours of being picked up by MyM, the Swedish Terran Jeffrey ‘SjoW’ Brusi managed to secure victory in the ZOTAC Cup #17. He defeated the German player Giacomo ‘Socke’ Thüs in a close 3:2 series. Exclusive for readmore.de, he talks about Starcraft 2, its Future and the ZOTAC Cup.
readmore.de: Hey SjoW, can you introduce yourself to our readers!
-Hello, my name is Jeffrey Brusi, I’m 23 years and I live in Sweden. Currently I live off the money I make playing poker.
readmore.de: You just won your first ZOTAC Cup. How do you feel?
-I feel great! And to everyone who doubted me: "This is only the beginning!”
readmore.de: In the final contest, you beat Socke 3:2. Can you briefly explain the games and how they played out?
-As I said earlier, it was a great feeling to beat Socke after he knocked me out of last Wednesday’s cup. The first game I thought he would try the same push he did against Satiini, so I expected that and I devised a tactic and countered him perfectly.. On Metalopolis I was completely surprised. Socke did a perfectly timed Colossus push and I had nothing to defend it.
On Lost Temple, my Banshee harassment was better than his Phoenix harass. This gave me an advantage and I was able to apply constant pressure which prevented him from getting a good mix of High Templar and GW (tn: Gateways? Gateways doesn’t make much sense but it’s the only GW I can think of.). On Kulas Ravine I got too cocky and thought I had guaranteed victory so I stopped watching my scouting and macro. I basically handed him the game. On Steppes of war everything fitted together! Both the banshee harass and push went perfectly!
readmore.de: In the semi-final match, you beat the Polish player Tarson 2:0. How is your TvT?
-I must admit, I wasn’t particularly surprised that I would win here as I find I do very well when it comes to TvT. It is my second-best match up. Plus, it’s now very fun to play TvT as Terrans have started building more than just Tanks and Vikings. You can see that the players go over builds to get their own style and depart from the usual tactics.
readmore.de: How would you describe your “style”?
-Quite different from the other Terrans as I try to experiment and completely understand the game play.
readmore.de: What is your best and worst match up?
-My best is clearly TvZ, then TvT and my main problem is in TvP.
readmore.de: In the community, including top Zerg players like IdrA, the displeasure about ZvT grows. What do you think of these imbalance reproaches?
SjoW: In my opinion, Terran is easy to play at a high level; however, the players are not that good yet and make countless mistakes in every game. So you should take advantage of these mistakes instead of crying about imbalance like IdrA.
readmore.de: So is it wrong to complain about imbalance only week after the game is released?
-Yes! For example, many Warcraft 3 players and members of the community said that Orc was the worst race. However, when they began to use the Blademaster, everything changed. This is why you must understand the game first before complaining about balance.
readmore.de: There are many rumours about you transferring teams recently. Your name appeared in the tags on the MyM news page (tn: SjoW’s name appeared in the tags on the news article about NaNi and ClouD joining MyM), but you’re officially with Shark Gaming Systems. What can you say about this?
-I will be leaving SGS to join a new team. That’s all I can say right now.
readmore.de: DeMusliM and ClouD are moving to Germany, NaNi has announced that he will with the final qualifier for the EPS. Have you thought about moving to Germany to eventually play in the EPS tournaments?
-Yes, I have. Obviously it would be really cool to come and play. Possibly for the next season. We will see.
readmore.de: Some players consider trying a year as a progamer. What about you?
-I have considered that and as long as I stay motivated, I go all the way and become number one in the world!
readmore.de: What are you goals and ambitions for Starcraft 2?
-My next goal is to win a major international tournament.
readmore.de: Towards the end of Warcraft 3, there were almost no major team league tournaments and the focus shifted to 1v1. Do you think that will occur in Starcraft 2 as well?
-I think, it’s a very competitive game and the fans want to know who the best player is and team leagues falsify this result. Because of this the focus will probably remain on 1v1.
From my point of view, it would be great if there were lots of major team league. These help communication in the team and increase team spirit. Something like the WC3L would be great thing!
readmore.de: Thanks very much for the interview. Any last words?
-Thanks for the interview and to all my fans. A special thanks to those who support me always!
