For fuck sake, why do you people insist on being disrespectful? (Not aimed at Banansword, but in addition to his post.)
I love.

If Scarlett tried to compete in the women's olympics it would not be allowed.

Genetics are not so clear in this area with all the XXY, and even XY mixups. And physically she is not really a man, that is the point of the hormonal therapy and SRS.

Even if this is true - which we do not know and which we should not discuss here - that doesn't mean that she is a man. I do not want to blow my own trumpet, but please read this post.

First of all: a transgender, in the very broad sense of the word, is someone who has a specific sex (a certain biological status; 'female' or 'male'), but has a different gender, i.e. he or she feels like she is the other gender than the sex she/he has.

Being a transgender sucks. There is nothing else to say about it. For those who you who do not understand, let me put it this way. Imagine you are stuck in a girls body, while being a guy. You do not want to hang out with the guys. You are literally a guy - you just like the physical body parts. Imagine that all the time all the guys can stand up and pee, and you have to sit down. But note that you don't start out like this. Oh, no; society has always recognized you as a girl. They expect you to act like a girl, where female clothing, maybe even start dating a guy. And all the while: you are a guy. Can you imagine how that's like? I have not experienced it myself, but I am pretty sure it sucks.

If you have a hard time picturing this, try this. You are a very talend starcraft 2 player. You can probably be one of the best foreigners. You have all the skills you need. However; you have to be dishwasher. Everyone expects you to be a dishwasher. If you even start talking to people that you might want to be a starcraft player they will probably look very weird at you. They will consider you to have a 'mental disease'. (Transgender is still, if I am not mistaken, classified as a mental disease.) And you are not really sure. You know it's abnormal that you want to be a starcraft 2 player. Etc. Does this sound awful to you? Now imagine that in order to really become a sc2 player, you have to go through a long surgery, all kinds of psychiatrists, etc. So really, being a transgender sucks big time.

So for all the *I am really censoring myself here* who think they are tough or whatever and want to keep calling Scarlett a 'he' because she might (or might not) have the physical body of a guy, is like saying to the dishwasher: 'Fuck you, you will never be a sc2 player, and I will always consider you to be just a dishwasher, and you will never be anything else'.

I hope this clarifies why it's a fucking douchebag move to keep calling her a he.

It was in the OP before, with a direct quote from Scarlett confirming it.

And I said that Scarlett is genetically and physically a man, which is completely accurate regardless of what your opinion is on transgenderism.

And that is where you are wrong as it is not completely accurate. Turns out reality is not binary even in sex area.

This is the first I have heard that Scarlett has Klinefelter's syndrome. Are you sure of that?

I am pretty certain Scarlett is just transgender, as it previously mentioned in the OP.

Klinefelter's syndrome is different from transgenderism.

EDIT: Also note that treatment for Klinefelter's syndrome would be to administer male hormones (testosterone), not transition to female.

there have been women who have been banned from the womens olympics for not being women so i dont see your point.

I am not sure I understand your post but my point was that claiming Scarletts achievements on behalf of women is problematic because Scarlett still has any physical or mental advantages that male DNA gives. This is why people who have male DNA and male physiology are not allowed to compete in womens olympics.

If men have a natural advantage in Starcraft--not that they necesarily do, but it can't be ruled out based on results--Scarlett has the same natural advantage.

Way to miss the point. Point was that "being genetically a man" is not enough to determine if someone is man or woman. And she is obviously not physically a man either.

a few things
first off she came out on page 3 it's pretty clear....just read the damned thread
second off it was previously in the op
third off it was decided that it is none of our business and that the whole debate/conversation needed to leave the thread as it's a fanclub for a talented sc2 player not a thread for debate about the gender of said player

As science stands today the relevance of this is questionable... unless you wouldn't mind providing some solid proof of why a woman would have a disadvantage in sc2, (not saying it is impossible, but it is certainly not proven or obvious, like it is with the normal olympics)

Theres also no way you can say she is "genetically" male as genetics has just as much to do with gender as sex, just to clarify... although im sure you knew

sorry i just realized even though i ws answering i was polluting the thread with off-topic so i put spoiler...

btw does anyone know if scarlett named herself after something specific?

Yeah this is what i mean. I am not beeing rude and i think its great for Scarlett beeing what he wants.

No you people are beeing rude. Saying she is the best female gamer out there when she clearly is not a girl. I have respect for transgenders but he is born a guy and is a guy even though he gets surgery. You can clearly see he is a guy and sounds like a guy. He even admits it in interview.

My point beeing is its extremely wrong to cheer on this guy for beeing an awesome girl gamer, its actually discriminating for us women. This makes me sooo angry as a girl to see ......

The purpose of this thread is to be a fan of Scarlett, celebrate Scarlett's acheivements, fawn over Scarlett's awesomeness, etc. Your role in the discussion has been to point out that Scarlett would not qualify as a competitor in women's Olympic events, to emphasize that she is other, to put her otherness in bold font when you thought it wasn't getting through with sufficient clarity.

Scarlett's gender identity has been discussed sufficiently. No one is confused about it, and it has no bearing on her acheivements as a competitor in SC2. The only place discussion of her gender identity has in this thread, beyond the confirmation of the basic fact that she's transgendered back when that wasn't already clear to everyone, is to the extent that it is another factor that makes her an inspiring figure.

Your interest seems to be to turn this thread into a gender identity debate, and you are being rather dickish about it. That's not what this thread is for. We're here because we think Scarlett is awesome. If that's not why you're here, then go post somewhere else.

Is there some magic script we can set up where posts about tg issues get auto-shunted to an appropriate General thread? Coz like srsly... Sigh.

Re teams, Quantic would be great but I hope she waits a while and lets things develop a bit. Of course the security of a team position/equipment/$ would be pretty tempting, but she's clearly got the skills so there's no particular need to rush I would think. Once a team has started investing in you it gets tricky to team-hop, better to pick the right one first off if it's at all possible.
