My personal beliefs that you should not judge people without proof and that you should not ruin someones life to make easy money direclty contradicts what Aftonbladet is about. Protect pedophiles but print pictures, names and approximate address' of people that Aftonbladet hope are guilty of trivial "popular" crimes then comtinue to write stuff about them for weeks to make them look like mass murderers. Is that really something you want to support? The most frightening thing about this tabloid is what i mentioned earlier, they are being passed of as a real newspaper! This is Swedens leading source of news for the younger generations and I won't support it. It disgust me to no end as I have been a subject for the lies and bullshit spewed by them, now I'm so mad I won't be able to sleep for the next couple of weeks. Thank you. / End of rant | ||

I absolutely loathe Aftonbladet. It's a terrible newspaper published by a terrible organisation staffed by terrible people with terrible morals. I should know, they published lies and slander about my family years ago that still hurts us. If people don't want to support Aftonbladet (and as people have said, that krona IS going to Aftonbladet, however they then pay their producers is an entirely different matter) because of political or moral beliefs, I don't think they should. It's in every person's right to refuse to pay for material produced by people he/she doesn't want to support. I will never pay them a single krona, ever, just as I wouldn't pay neo nazis or communists (well, Aftonbladet are pretty close) for the same content. However, that doesn't mean that I wouldn't take whatever content is given for free. And it also doesn't mean I don't like the initiative, because hopefully that means someone better will join in in the future. And to the guy saying people are hypocrites for watching 20th Century Fox movies but not wanting to support Aftonbladet...what's wrong with you? How are those things even remotely related? If I don't want to support Scan because I don't like their practices, does that mean I can't ever eat meat again, ever? It's a stupid argument. [Edit: Spelling] | ||

We all want Esports to grow. However, when it is actually covered by the country's biggest (by far) news corporation, people can't wait for the first chance to discourage everyone from showing that the interest for Esports is actually big enough to deserve a place in the mainstream spotlight. And the arguments for it? That Aftonbladet is a newspaper that is spewing out filthy lies and destroying everything in its path. This is a very subjective truth. Aftonbladet is a tabloid in newspaper form. A concept that was developed some 30-40 years ago and today more or less is on top in every country. The other big tabloids in Sweden; Expressen and GT are no better when it comes to portraying the objective truth without exaggerating headlines and first pages. The same goes for most newspapers abroad who sell single newspapers rather than subscriptions. The fact that Aftonbladet is the biggest means that it is also a symbol for this type of journalism. It's not worse than any other competitor, it's just more well known and successful at what it does. If you want some good Swedish journalism, go to Dagens Nyheter or Svenska Dagbladet, but I wouldn't advice you to hold your breath when it comes to them introducing Esports as one of their top stories. The reach that Aftonbladet has in Sweden is incredible. Last week they had 5.8 million unique visitors in a country with little over 9 million people (http://kiaindex.net/). In terms of publicity, you wont find anything even remotely close to that within our borders. I wonder if any type of mainstream media organization in the world this big has ever given Esports this much attention. During the course of the tournament today, Aftonbladet had DH Valencia as their second story on their website - Sweden's biggest. After Thorzain won his semi finals I got a text message from a friend. He bought SC2 a few months back, played through the campaign and never started it again. As far as I know he never watched a single casted game. In the message he asked me if I was watching, and saying how he was glued to the screen. That he was waiting for the other semi final and was looking forward to watching Thorzain in the finals. How did he even knew about the tournament? Through Aftonbladet. That's good enough for me to see that this is actually a good thing for esports. Say what you want about the tabloid format newspapers have nowadays. Im not too fond of it myself. But if I put all the bullshit aside and try to view this from an objective perspective for Esports, I don't see this as anything else than a great opportunity and a major step. It would be a damn shame not to capitalize from it. | ||

If you want to read/watch about e-sports material created by aftonbladet employees than you should support aftonbladet because if they see an interest in their material they will create more e-sports material. That will generate interest from corporations, (sponsorship) casual gamers and perhaps non-gamers to create even more buzz about this industry. If you can't read their opinion pieces or angled news stories than you are very narrow minded. Because even if you are of the opposing view you should respect and be able to absorb their arguments as it might change your view. If you can't stand other peoples opinions than you are an intolerant person and sadly, confines yourself within a bubble that reinforces your own opinions and ideas. If you for some reason believes that there political tone is reflected in the sports section or the e-sports section you are taking your criticism very far. There sensationalistic news reporting does reflect most of their reporting but in the sports section and perhaps in the future their e-sports section gives good coverage, analysis and background stories. | ||
