Okey I bought new razer abyssus mouse and have few questions

So firstly if I make SC2 sensitivity to 54 then I can't adjust mouse dpi for my needs - 450dpi is too low, 1800dpi is too high and 3500dpi is also too high sensitivity for me. So it's best to put mouse dpi on max(3500) and make SC2 sensitivity just like it is comfortable for me, or? Now on SC2 it is only 17, and on windows it's 2/11. Is there any advantage in lowering mouse dpi and increasing windows/SC2 sensitivity?
I recently got the exact same mouse and had the same problem
What you wrote doesn't make much sense, though, 2/11 in Windows is 16:1, so you'd effectively get 3500/16=218.75 dpi.
I chose 1800 dpi and 4/11 (2:1), which gives me 900 dpi.

It's kind of hard to figure out the exact border lines of the intervals, so I suggest avoiding multiples of 5% (50%, 55%, 60%, 65%, etc.) because the borders will be fractions of these numbers. Set your sensitivity between multiples of 5 (theres no difference between 51%--54%; 71--74; 96--99 [and 100]; etc. There is no 100.0000000000001% or 0.9999999999% so it works out no matter what your screen resolution is).

(...)

- There are only 20 mouse settings in starcraft2 (1--5, 5--10, 10--15, etc.), even though there more than 100 notches on the slider.
- for 1:1 ratio of mouse movement to cursor movement, set your in-game sensitivity to anything between 51%--54% [with "enhance pointer precision" turned off in windows] -- not 50% as people previously thought (although it sort of is 50%; it's just that you can't see what the decimal point on the number is so it's safer to use 51--54) (that is, 51%, 52%, 53%, and 54% are all exactly the same mouse speed).
This information isn't entirely correct. These are the results i got from playing with Mouse Movement Recorder:

0-9% -> 32:1 (same as 1st notch in Windows)
11-14% -> 16:1 (2nd notch)
16-19% -> 8:1
21-24% -> 4:1 (3rd notch)
26-29% -> 8:3
31-34% -> 2:1 (4th notch)
36-39% -> 8:5
41-44% -> 4:3 (5th notch)
46-49% -> 8: 7
51-54% -> 1:1 (6th notch)
56-59% -> 4:5
61-64% -> 2:3 (7th notch)
66-69% -> 4: 7
71-74% -> 1:2 (8th notch)
76-79% -> 4: 9
81-84% -> 2:5 (9th notch)
86-89% -> 4:11
91-94% -> 1:3 (10th notch)
96-99% -> 4:13
100% -> 2: 7 (11th notch)

So, 0-4% and 6-9% is the same, 99% and 100% isn't the same and the Win*9.09 formula is wrong.

Does this stuff apply to those who use SetPoint implementation? I've been using 50% ever since I first booted up SC2 and I haven't noticed a difference between my in-game and non-in-game sensitivity. I know SetPoint has 11 notches as does Windows OS.

good day, playing with a 3200 DPI mouse, play with 3/11 windows sens and 23% in game sens, is this a problem? it's not like i'm experiencing any problems with it and i never missmicro cause of loss in mouse performance

lindn, if you feel like your mouse isn't inhibiting your ability to micro at all and you're fine with your mouse sensitivity, then don't change anything. However, for optimal performance it sounds like you should use 6/11 windows sens, 51-54% in-game, and then adjust your mouse's DPI to suit your sensitivity needs. imo if I were you I'd just keep your current settings.

In my situation I feel like my mouse settings could be tweaked a little bit to improve my micromanagement gameplay, so this new discovery is important to find the perfect sensitivity for those who haven't yet.

To get the same windows sens (6/11) i had to set it to 32% in game after some tests :/ (razer abyssus @ 1800dpi)
has left the game.

Your either going to have get used to a very slow mouse or get a new one. A razer abyssus is $30-35 and has everything you need to have adjustable mouse sensitivity without screwing up a 1:1 pixel ratio.

Umm... low screen resolution?
With sensitivity > 55% (or >6/11) you're missing pixels on the screen.

Now, I recognize that people want to have their hardware as optimized as possible (especially if it's as easy as this is, and free too!), but I don't understand why there are so many people that are so adamant about the 1:1 ratio or the 1:2 ratio being bad.

I don't think there are man 1 pixel animations in SC2 that you need to be able to click on, so what's the problem with being once pixel away from the center of that zergling you were trying to click on? If you f you miss the center by 1-5 pixels, you still hi the zergling.

This seems to me like martini sipping, cigar smoking, mouse snobbery. I play at 8/11, 80%, 2800 dpi and I likes it.

What does 1:1 ratio even mean?

That the distance I have to move my mouse is equal to the distance the cursor travels? Surely not?

My mousepad is not made of pixels, after all.

I just wanted to say thank you very much for posting this information as it obviously took time and effort (how much I do not know, seeing as I'm a math retard), very helpful and a good read for anyone serious about optimizing their mouse performance in SC2.

cool my thread got mentioned on the day9 daily. Sorry if the OP is messy and long winded and mixes true and false information...

I'm going to add this disclaimer to the OP:
When I set out to write this post I thought that it would be fairly straight forward to communicate what I was trying to say, however I was wrong and as a result this thread can be very confusing for non-mathematically minded people.

The general gist of it all is basically sc2 mouse settings that are multiples of 5 are inconsistent, and so you should avoid them. The other thing is that there are not as many different sensitivity settings as you think (there are not 100, as would be implied by a slider that works with percentages). You'll also find a lot of discussion on pixel precision and 1:1 ratios and stuff, and if you're interested you can read on, however I don't give a crap about pixel precision or 1:1 ratios or any of that stuff because as far as I'm concerned all of that is meaningless in the face of having a 'comfortable mouse speed'. However the findings are still relevant to myself, because although I don't care about pixel precision, I do care about having the same mouse speed today and tomorrow and the next day. If you're the sort of person that doesn't keep count of how many sugars they put in their coffee, then that's fine too. then that's fine too.
