Oh, wait. Let's just say that I'll unconditionally trust European countries with certain legal matters involving the United States when European countries voluntarily announce their US black sites. To be honest, I don't think the US would extradite Assange. Trial by media worked and everyone already hates Assange, regardless of the future outcome of this case. Wikileaks has been cut off from 90% of its former donations and has had to stop publishing for the foreseeable future. The only reason why extradition would happen now is to make an example of Assange. Admittedly, this is not as uncommon as it sounds over here, but the further loss in international reputation would be undesirable for the government of the United States. But extradition is still a relevant, if small, risk. It's not like we've suddenly started caring too much about international reputation recently.

It's not like he did anything wrong and it's true that he got arrested for alleged sexual assault (suprise sex?) and I feel like anyone who went through the trouble of doing research will most likely agree. Stuff like Wiki might not actively change anything but it'll show the heart of certain politicians and people will still rise to the occasion like they did with wikileaks, when they feel their country is not working as it should.

Also anyone who thinks Assenge is a saint is an idiot, I don't care what the tosser thinks he isn't above the law, get here and have the trial. I get being afraid of american courts but christ sweden courts are pretty badass (I know I'm a law student). Most of all he will probably not be condemned due to lack of proof. My point is: A real man would face the charges and not make this about world conspiracies. Wikileaks and the like is bigger than 1 man. actually this kinda thing does provide an opportunity for MANY MANY non-internet people to be exposed to corruption that they otherwise would overlook the common person heard about wikileaks on the news, heard about the sex charges, but now because its dragged on and been made a big deal of (rather than him just popping over there to get convicted/released) it does very successfully bring attention to the possible smear campaign and bias and corruption that surrounds us. try not to forget that we are the vast minority here on the internets who can quickly recognise and understand and be informed of certain things 1000 times more easily than the other 90% of our population. if you were a spokesperson trying to reach out to as many people as possible to get them to recognise that an issue EXISTS then you'd drag it out and flaunt this bullshit till the last moment. my mom and millions upon MILLIONS of others would just walk on by otherwise

I don't know about that case specifically, but US law (maybe it's different state by state?) does declare that every sexual act must be accompanied by verbal consent. If you just start kissing a girl and it escalates naturally, that is the legal definition of rape. The law couldn't be more stupid, really. It should be about intent, the girl can see you're not wearing a condom, and she has the right to stop you. If she doesn't, that should be enough to qualify as consent. Is this honestly in the law? If the police asks me if I asked the girl or not, I would just say 'yes'. Then it becomes he-said-she-said and the case cannot go on.

Yes, but in Sweden there's a huge pressure on the judge and "jury" to always go with the woman's side of the story, otherwise they are sexist. edit: The law has nothing to do with condoms or not though. It doesn't matter if you use a condom or not, if you have sex without actually asking, in words, "IS IT OK IF WE HAVE SEX NOW?" and get a verbal "YES" back, it's rape.

First one with a criminal record loses. That being said, there's so many manipulative women out there that I don't do one night stands. I like my clean record tyvm.

BTW Sweden ranks 4th, Finland 3rd and Iceland and Norway are 1. and 2.(cant remember the order of those 2) in gender equality. So whoever said sweden is first was wrong

He's done a civil service to many people around the world who want access to information. All he did was provide the means to provide information, Good on him. What are you talking about? Assange was extradited to Sweden since he was facing sexual harrasment charges. If it had happened to anyone else you would be totally okay with it. Wikileaks was a great thing, but do you think anyone who contributes to the society in some way should stand above the law? The law is the law no matter what your name is and what you have done.

Source: http://www.reuters.com/article/2012/08/15/us-wikileaks-assange-ecuador-idUSBRE87E16N20120815 By Jose Llangari QUITO | Wed Aug 15, 2012 6:31pm EDT (Reuters) - Ecuador said on Wednesday the British government had threatened to raid its embassy in London if WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange is not handed over, and that Quito would make its decision on his asylum request on Thursday. "Today we've received a threat by the United Kingdom, a clear and written threat that they could storm our embassy in London if Ecuador refuses to hand in Julian Assange," Ecuadorean Foreign Minister Ricardo Patino told reporters. "We are not a British colony," he added in an angry statement after a meeting with President Rafael Correa. Ecuador will announce its decision regarding Assange's asylum request on Thursday at 7 a.m. (1200 GMT), he added, amid media speculation that the government has already decided to grant Assange asylum. Former computer hacker Assange, who enraged Washington in 2010 when his WikiLeaks website published secret U.S. diplomatic cables, is wanted in Sweden to face trial for rape. Assange has been taking refuge in the Ecuadorean embassy in London since June 19. The Australian anti-secrecy campaigner says he fears he could be bundled to the United States where his life would be at risk. Even if Ecuador gives him asylum, it is difficult to see how the WikiLeaks boss could physically leave the closely watched embassy and head to an airport without being arrested by British police. (Reporting by Jose Llangari, writing by Eduardo Garcia; Editing by Andrew Cawthorne and Sandra Maler) It's not normal to threaten to raid an embassy over an asylum issue is it?

Since my own thoughts are that the accusations are bogus, there's too many inconsistencies, mainly that she did still hang out with him after whatever it is shes accusing him of. I'd also be ashamed of my country if he was indeed extradited to the US.
