"Although it's huddled some media attention and although some people have tried to make a lot of it, at heart it's an allegation that somebody has raped and sexually assaulted two women in Sweden," he said.
the guy i was just talking to said in Sweden the law is, during sex, if the man does not use a condom then he must verbally ask the woman permission, otherwise it is rape. idk if this is true or bullshit, but thats what the guy said.
dont think i read this thread, all i remember is seeing some web-archived pages (like tweets or something) of the girls conspiring to screw him over. the girls deleted their messages but they were still accessible from web archive, showing that they were conspiring to frame him. idk
mod pls close or whatever if not appropriate, i thought it might be interesting to some anyway but really it is probably just another "nothing much" update idk
It's bullshit. How would that ever be true?
These laws exist in America too. I don't know about that case specifically, but US law (maybe it's different state by state?) does declare that every sexual act must be accompanied by verbal consent. If you just start kissing a girl and it escalates naturally, that is the legal definition of rape.
The law couldn't be more stupid, really. It should be about intent, the girl can see you're not wearing a condom, and she has the right to stop you. If she doesn't, that should be enough to qualify as consent.
and that is why you dont stick your dick into crazy.
he did call himself a lightning rod, and looks like lightning struck hard. I hope wikileaks continues its operations despite this. Still eagerly awaiting what they have to say on banks a year ago.
How important is this guy to wikileaks? Every time I see him he has a new hairstyle and a new fashion style and he has a smug look on his face like he is some kind of prophet. At this point I think he cares more about the attention than trying to expose injustice. Wikileaks spends a lot of money for his defense attorneys and more press goes to covering his legal matters than to leaks themselves. Is this D-bag really so hard to replace at wikileaks?

He got drunk with power. Thats why his co founder left.

1. He ran wikileaks for some time in relative anonymity.
2. Donations to Wikileaks go to Wikileaks, not to Assange's personal defense. He has sold the rights to his biography in order to help pay for legal fees.
3. Visible, charismatic leaders help movements to flourish in almost every instance. Yes, he is valuable not just in a journalistic role, but as a spokesperson.
4. It is the mainstream press which is obsessed with the scandals surrounding Assange and often fails to cover more serious, important issues (one of the reasons we need Wikileaks in the first place). Another reason you haven't seen any hard-hitting Wikileaks revelations lately is because they've had to suspend operations due to major financial institutions cutting their funding avenues.
5. You should know that a lot of very, very influential people and governments WANT you to think he's a huge douchebag. The sexual assault charges are a clumsily overt smear campaign, for one.

I think it is in the best interests of the powers that he appears like this. No one can say that they haven't had their mind influenced by the media on this. Even staunch followers have wavered because of the bullshit thrown at him.
This of course is the downside of having a representative and spokesperson. It gives them a target.

Yes, it's probably a smear campaign, but no, evolution is not to blame. Or whatever you're trying to say. I'm actually not sure what the above is supposed to mean. Sounds like incoherent ranting.
Funny how Sweden ranks the best in terms of gender equality in the world according to UN.
Also anyone who thinks Assenge is a saint is an idiot, I don't care what the tosser thinks he isn't above the law, get here and have the trial. I get being afraid of american courts but christ sweden courts are pretty badass (I know I'm a law student).
Most of all he will probably not be condemned due to lack of proof. My point is:
A real man would face the charges and not make this about world conspiracies. Wikileaks and the like is bigger than 1 man.

Has he actually been charged? I thought he was just wanted for questioning.
I want to know what the Australian government is doing for him. When the diplomatic cable thing errupted our prime minister basically declared him guilty. Not a great way to support a citizen

"Real men" tend to get extradited on planes no one knows about. I don't know if Sweden runs black sites for the United States because every country in the EU has denied running one, so I'll leave it at "extradition".
Public evidence involving extraordinary rendition flights are classified as state secrets over here. Kafka much?
"Real men" that are already over here tend to end up in solitary confinement or, at the very least, harassed by punitive government lawsuits for years. With very, very, very delayed trials. Just saying.
Incidentally, he hasn't been charged with anything yet. They just want him for "questioning".

The problem isn't the charges in Sweden. The problem is that once he's in Sweden they can then extradite him to the US. If he ends up in the US he's pretty much fucked.

Sweden will extradite him to the US. If the US can't get any laws to actually stick to him in court, they can always throw him in Guantanamo. I don't think this is anywhere close to a conspiracy theory, seeing as many have requested either his capture or assassination and that the US has been doing this to "terrorists" for years.
The influence of the US... pretty strong to be able to frame someone in a completely different country, send him to another country, all to ultimately send him to the US for god knows what treasonous charges.
