Does that mean that my low points would probably be higher if I was in another division? Your division is the not the hardest but the easiest, because it is bigger so you get the most points there. Elo points cannot be compared from division to division, so far now we can only compare ranks. I dont understand this. Knowing that you can play against any people who are in any other division (and even any league apparently), i dont see why Elos shouldn't be compared. (And moreover, i dont see why there are divisions.) Well, i see a reason: making kind of brackets for end season tournaments. If anybody plays against anybody during the "regular season", the ratings are definitely comparable. Then, the divisions are just there to pick up top seed players for tournaments?
Elos are only absolute within your own division.
If you play someone in your division the amount of points you gain = the amount of points your opponent loses (as far as I can tell).
When you play someone from another division the amount points you gain are only equal to the amount of points your opponent loses IF there are the same amount of players in both divisions.
My guess is Blizzard don't want players in empty divisions to gain too big of an ELO lead before it's filled up with players. For this reason you can't compare a division with 8 ppl to a division with 50.

I don't have a beta, but if I did, I'd probably have under 30 games on the ladder and over a hundred custom games. The point of the beta isn't to rank high, it's to find bugs, test balance and provide feedback in order to improve the game.
Being at the top of the beta ladder is pointless and almost meaningless so I'd rather people use the beta to do what it's meant for as opposed to turning it into a pissing contest. There's going to be a lot of time to compete once the game is actually out.

...And an excellent way to create an environment that tests balance, is to compete as if the game was complete and live for everyone.
Just because the beta test is a test, doesn't mean there's no fun to be had.

CowGoMoo has the best win rate at 93.3%, David Kim in second place with 91.6%
Screw the inconsistent ELO ranks, over 90% win rate is nuts.

Isn't there a bug where people's ELO gets reset back to 1000? I dont think there is any fair comparison until that bug is fixed.

how is that guy over 1400 with only 32 wins and a 2:1 ratio?
WTF?
I've been grinding for days with well over twice as many wins as him and I'm only at like 1350 or something

Like sais many times before, you cannot compare elo points from different division, just ranks.

If you get a lot of silver/gold opponents you don't get many points for winning whereas if you get a lot of plat opponents you get a lot of points for winning (relatively speaking). Or alternately they may have had 0 bad losses whereas you may have dropped at least a couple of games to people from lower divisions... I know I did once or twice.
edit from below: cuteFayth if you are gonna counter-insult idra at least make sense.

I'm placing my bets on IdrA being the first non-developer SC2 bonjwa.
And fayth won't you be envious when IdrA is on top of the ESPORTS WORLD getting mad pussy everywhere and you'll be the ugly nerd sitting in your room playing poker.

Elos are only absolute within your own division.
so this make absolute no sense ^^
more players in division = more points
tahts why all division 2players have SO many points ... kiwi isnt better then other place 1 gamers
|
i dont think Elo's are only absolute within your own division, i think theyre universal across all divisions. Smaller divisions = Newer divisions and newer divisions would obviously contain players with lower ratings aka 9-1 Placement players.
I dont see any evidence that would show that theyre separate.
