What do I have to consider if I'm buying suede instead of leather? I'm just "starting out," and I think I may go with Bass Bucks instead of the CDB.

Suede is more sensitive to water. Spray them fairly often, and try to find a suede spray without silicone in it. Get a suede brush to take care of scuffs, and a softer big brush to get out dust. Brush off dust whenever you take them off.

The lifespan of suede may be shorter than that of regular leather, but should still last you a long time if you take care of it.

I'm not much of a fashion guy (I didn't even know you had to make hair look like that, thought it just happens (In op)) but I was wondering why waistcoats have the silk and the belt like thing on the back? I had a waistcoat and pants tailored for me recently and I was like "Don't put in the silk or the belt thing dude" and he bitched for almost 20 minutes about it and tried getting me to change my mind.

Also tip if it hasn't been said, polo's look a lot more classier than just a t-shirt.

Haha its not as complicated as he made it sound the big thing is just don't wear them if wet out or raining. If you want them to last as long as possible. Spray them with suede conditioner, and get a suede brush for scuffs, and brush off with your hand when you take them off. Spraying them takes 5 minutes, once every 2 or 3 months. Brush for scuffs as you see fit. And brush off with your hand for like 10 seconds when you take them off.

I think if you like the suede get the suede. Leather takes care to if you do it properly.

Bought 2 pair of Nudies today.

Don't like the color of one of them, other one doesn't fit right.

Bought a third pair online instead for $275, dry selvage denim.

Going to return the 2 I bought today at store. Going to feel like a total ass when I do get them returned...may decide to keep the one that does fit.

Don't do that if you don't like them now return them. You are not an ass for returning them assuming you aren't trying to slide something by them, like wearing them and damaging them then trying to return them without them noticing.

Well it's raw denim so there's there's no such thing as "damaging", but either way I'm not going to wear them out of principle and they cost about $215 each so I don't want to take the risk.

I definitely am going to return the one that doesn't fit, even though I can still ask for a free hemming.

The other one is quite a tight fit, pure indigo, even the threads. They are nice but I'm just having second thoughts because how low key it is to the point of giving off a pleb aura.

Beeswax? I think you'll be pretty happy them, and Sperry's are always a summer classic so I'd say thats a good pick up too.

Hey, yes they will be in Beeswax color as it seems to be the most versatile one.

I also got a pair of levi 514's which fit awesome on me. I've also tried the 511's but felt weird in how skinny they looked. It might be because I never used to wear jeans that were a much closer fit to the body, I've only in the past couple months actually started wearing upper clothing that was more form fitting, but that's because I started lifting weights :D.

I like the 511's personally. I have an aversion to baggy clothes -- even if something isn't actually baggy, but just excess a little bit in the comfort area.

----

I can't believe I've never seen this thread before. I'm starting to rebuild my wardrobe, or building it for the first time. I'm 24 and basically my clothing for the past 4-5 years has been the same stuff I accumulated when I was younger with the exception of 2 tailored shirts, a pair of dress pants and dress shoes. Recently I've dropped alot of weight, going from around 195-270 (about a year and a half ago) -- I'm 6'2, and now 270-210. Basically, I can't wear most of the clothes I've had for about the past 2 years because they make me look like a clown and I'm trying to build my wardrobe from the ground up. I have a few good shirts that are fitting, some jeans, but I don't know where to go from there. I feel like having jeans and a decent looking long sleeve t-shirt doesn't suit every occasion. It's starting to become very noticable in going about and trying to get things done. I usually try to just get through life on my je ne sais quoi, but I could use some damn fashion advice on what you guys deem as necessary in terms of a basic wardrobe.

@beje nice choices on the beeswax and the 514. The 511s certitanly aren't for everyone and you should feel confident and comfortable in your clothes so the 514s sound good.

@batssa I'm kinda confused by your weight loss story what does the 195 - 270 and 210- 270 mean? As far as what's good fashion items to have a lot depends on your lifestyle. You said your 24 are you working? If so what industry what's the dress code like as that will dictate the majority of your clothes. I think the most basic staples no matter where you work would be:

Edit: figured out what you meant. You went from 195 to 270 now back down to 210 right? Congrats. If your still losing weight just pick up a few staples if your comfortable with your weight now it's shopping time.

Solid button down shirts at least a few in white and light blue
At least one good pair of leather shoes
Jeans
A suit in navy or charcoal becuse you never know when you'll need one
A belt that matches shoes
Chinos
Button down "sport shirts"

I have been thinking of trying made to measure shirts. Has anyone done this? Advice? Recommendations? Has anyone used modern tailor they seem to have a good selection and affordable pricing.

Raw denim stretches alot over time. I recommend getting 1-2 sizes down from what your normally wear in jeans unless you really can't breathe down there. Everyone looks a bit goofy in brand new raw denim. I just slept in them whenever I took a nap on a couch and eventually they stretched to the fit I wanted.

Also, Nudies really are garbage for their price. I constantly got crotch rips after 4 months of wear.
Without a paddle up shit creek.

For the made to measure shirts...

For shirts, what I would do is either look around for a shop near you that custom makes mens shirts.. obviously #1 option.

Or look at one of your higher end men's shops.. that sells the top tier mens suits. Hickey Freeman... Canali... Zegna. (my personal preference).

And every coulple months they should have a "Road Show" where reps come in for suits, shoes, ties..ect.

They might have a shirtmaker come in on one of the road shows.

That's how I got some of my Measure Up shirts... http://www.measureupco.com/ that I used for my wedding.

Holy cow your right. The pair I was going to return are actually too large even at 32. I'm gonna size down to 31 I guess.

I wanted to buy Unbranded at first, because of the price and that blog where the guy documented his pair for a year, but all the stores in Toronto were sold out (yeah, ALL OF THEM) and I never got a chance to try them on for myself.

So I'm wearing Nudies, and also a pair of pure black Naked and Famous which the store ordered for me, since my 2 year old 511s are starting to feel moist.

There is no particular occasion. I have 1 black shirt I got on a whim/sale that I will only wear w/ my gray pants or some dark jeans. Black on black is a no-go.

Someone mentioned Express shirts not lasting - I usually have mine dry cleaned/laundered since I don't want to deal with ironing or line drying (tumble dry will kill anything).

Black button downs are not very versatile, the only time I'd really wear one would be going out to some clubs or bars and even then I'd chose something else most of the time.

Boes nice. Going for the smalls was a solid choice that shirt fits real well. I also like the 511 chinos on you. Not sure how I feel about the 521's on you it may just be the angle of the first picture, but I feel like it makes your thighs look kinda big since it slims down your calf's so much but is a little loose on the thighs. Although they do look fine in the second picture.
