GomTV plans to open their Starleague next month, the Sens GomTV Classic. Samsung Electronics will be their sponsor, putting up a total of 150,000,000 won, with 40,000,000 won prize for the winner.

64 progamers will compete, 32 being taken from progamer rankings, while the other 32 will be selected from a preliminary. GomTV will broadcast from the round of 32 and on using their internet TV service.

GomTV plans to broadcast outside Korea as well, planning to acquire a global broadcasting server in Europe by next month, and also intends to broadcast in English and Japanese by September.

10 of the 12 pro-teams have confirmed their support and participation, so it appears that GomTV will have no troubles in getting their league started.

unsourced stuff and rambling:

KeSPA hasn't officially sanctioned the league, to the best of my understanding. Yet 10 teams have given them the go ahead, so it will still be a significant league. KeSPA has failed to be a respectable organization so far, and some particularly negative people might even say its reputation is laughable.

I doubt the lack of official sanctioning will effect the prestige of this tournament. It's up to GomTV to do their best and make it respectable.

Bacchus OSL Finals on Ongamenet with #1 cable ratings

Last Saturday's OSL Finals had an average rating of 1.367% (male/age 13-25) and a market share of 29.83% (Rank 1 for this time slot). The numbers peaked out during the first game (6:35pm) when ratings climbed up to 3.432% and market share reached an amazing 50.17%. That means, among all 13-25 year old males who watched (cable) TV at that time, more than half watched OSL. About 8000 fans came to see the event live on stage in Gwangju (about 3 hours from Seoul), filling the stadium up to the 3rd floor.

Flash, Stork, Jaedong – Newsbits

Flash, probably the hottest player on the scene right now, has gotten an incentive as well as a big salary raise by KTF for his recent OSL win. Flash led KTF to their first individual league title after a period of 2 years. Much to the dismay of Stork, who was on his way to win the Award for Best Winning Percentage of 2007 at the upcoming Korean e-Sports awards with 78-35 (69.02%). Due to his unfortunate 0-3 loss against Flash, Stork’s winning quota dropped to 78-38 (67.24%) putting him behind Jaedong, who will now get the award with a win ratio of 70-32 (68.62%). It also seems like Stork will lose the fan vote for Best Protoss of 2007 against Bisu, who is currently leading the poll by 300 votes. Jaedong fans on the other hand will be delighted, as Jaedong now has a good chance of getting 4 awards, including Best Match, Best Zerg, Best Winning Percentage (courtesy of Stork) and Best Player of the Year. In the past this has only been topped by Iloveoov and sAviOr, who have won 5 awards at the first and second Korean e-Sports awards respectively.

good question, just a theory but maybe the games percentages are the games played between each award ceremony

Thanks snowbird, I love these updates. Finally got round to watching the OSL finals, and I must say I enjoyed them :D I do feel sorry for Stork though, since he seems to be on the same path as Yellow, with the difference being that Stork was actually the strongest player in the world for large periods of time, just not the right periods

Wow, Starcraft #1 in cable ratings. Who would've thought?

Man, I don't get all the hate Stork gets here at TL. I just can't help but feel sorry for the dude.
