Jeez, as always this community blows things way out of proportion. This is the internet and stuff like this will happen, just because he's a part of EG now doesn't make him some flawless being incapable of doing any wrong, orb is human like any of us.

As a community we're so quick to bring into question the character of our peers based on simple mistakes and/or lapses in judgement, but the fact is everybody here is guilty of doing something just as bad, but that doesn't mean we all don't deserve to be a part of this community.

I know man, the level of scrutiny that a guy like orb gets is astonishing to me. Many of the people raging about this are bored and not actually offended at his use of the word "nigger," or "faggot."

Now, I'll agree that these are venomous words, but for fucks sake, this language was a vessel for his rage and I seriously doubt it comments on him being a racist at all. I think, if anything, orb needed a harsh lesson in professionalism, and I suppose he's getting it now but people are treating the guy like he is the head of the KKK.

Ya this is what bugs me the most, people getting all up in arms calling orb a "racist" or a "bigot" or whatever. But its really not like that at all. For example, when someone is behaving like a douche, the word that comes to my mind is "faggot". And though I use this word as little as possible, it sometimes slips out there against my better judgement. But just because I've said the word a few times, doesn't mean I'm a homophobe. In fact, I have the utmost respect for the homosexual community and things like gay marriage bans really piss me off. So just because orb says the word "nigger" doesn't make him a racist. Obviously, he shouldn't be using that kind of language, and I'm sure he regrets it when he does. But the issue here should not be about expelling a racist from the community, but rather trying to reach certain levels of professionalism with starcraft's public figures. Give him a chance to clean up his act and grow, and if he can't do that, then he has a problem on his hands. I feel bad for EG in this case because they are more or less forced to take action, just because the community, especially r/staracraft, has gotten all vindictive about it.

The community has already done this with someone else who deserved it. Also someone on reddit said something that i think just perfectly explains the situation, and that is how taboo that word is.

nevermind.
edited to not look as dumb as I did before trying to defend orb.
development indicates it was actually him.

As much as I disagreed with orb in the past about things when I watched his stream. And I started watching it during beta I never saw orb going off in any slight racist manner when playing.
Sure, he has his minutes raging which even funny at first after a while bored me yet still I -after watching alot of orb's stream- do not believe he actually would do that.
It's problematic when you share your account. And he is to blame for that. But still I think as long as it is not 100% clear that it was orb with those remarks I call it in the name of "In dubio pro reo" and in this case FOR orb and not against.

i can say with certainty it's a lie, as can anyone else by assessing:

this vod: http://www.twitch.tv/orbtl/b/310153978 (skip to 4:36:00 - the very end)

this replay: http://drop.sc/128333 (from which the OP's image comes from)

and this image: http://i.imgur.com/ezpN4.jpg

while i initially empathised with how the ladder can bring the most vile near schizophrenic shit out of a person, his paperweight excuse and indignant, aggressive use of the word "slander" at every opportunity (see: https://twitter.com/#!/orbtl/status/177543578485133312/) only compounded whatever judgements i could have originally put on hold should he have just come out and taken the arrows for his actions.

i feel like that would have been a recoverable position, unlike the mariana trench he has now dug himself.

<vod removed>

i had a feeling this would happen. while there are more than enough people who will have already seen it and can attest to its (former) existence, i fraps'd this clip before it went down: http://tinypic.com/player.php?v=2vmxe6b&s=5.
all from pissflask (lol) on reddit. The evidence is easily there that he made that comment, and not his "friend" sharing his account.

I cannot reach the video you posted.
310153978 ... it always redirects me to the listed vod.
yet interested in the facts presented here ... it would actually make me feel bad for hoolding him in too high honors.

EDIT: DLing replay ... Sad, very sad indeed.

ugh i can not quote without for some reason losing all the text, and i can't even edit that without losing all the text..so strange. Does anyone know what is causing that? I am using mozilla.

@to c0rn1 the video was deleted so that is why there was a fraps'd so that it could be shown that orb was playing, and not his friend.

People nowadays need to learn that what is said and posted on the Internet will follow you for your entire life. What seems like a joke or something said just between a few intended people in fact reaches far wider than one could ever imagine. Across the world kids are ruining their lives by posting "funny" racist videos, sexting, or harassing others. When their current friends, neighbors, and future employers stumble across those postings, the effects are oftentimes adverse and severe.

These stories are ALL around us. Kids going to jail for child pornography for sexting, kids getting kicked out of universities for racist YouTube videos meant in jest, and other people going to jail for cyberbullying. EVERYONE, and not just the people that are "professionals" or "celebrities" needs to be totally and completely careful what they post on the Internet. It does not go away. It cannot be deleted.

It cannot be overstated how absolutely important it is for people to start being careful what they self-publish or allow others to publish on the Internet.

I've seen his stream enough times to know he gets mad very easy. That doesn't go hand in hand with being a public figure. (See: Mel Gibson)

Not getting angry isn't a sign of maturity. You're saying everyone in anger management or who has problems with their emotions should just "Grow up." Lol. It seems you are the childish one here.

What does go hand in hand it being ridiculed and hunted from being a public figure. If Destiny has done this, and written the word however no one would of said a thing because it's expected from Destiny. Now as I've posted in the other thread I can fully understand if EG wants to distance themselves from this bad PR, but the fact that there is bad PR to begin with is a joke on us as a community. People have raged in the past and said bad things. Most of us are guilty of such a thing, but it doesn't make us a racist or a bad person. Just makes us human. I can guarantee that anyone watching orbs casts before and after this incident will take it the exact same way and this won't affect them at all. People just want to get up and arms with the mob to witchhunt someone down because it's the internet. Not because you actually feel offended; if you felt offended you wouldn't have one liners and pathetic garb about burning a man at the stake.

To those with quality and insightful posts reflecting orbs actions and the appropriate responses of community affiliations I applaud you. Those are the kinds of things we should be discussing and moving forward with as a community. The ability to ask ourselves is orb secretly evil or does he just rage a bit. Is he actually a racist and will it appear when he does publicly broadcasted events or does he just rage in private and some people snapped some stream shots? We should not be focusing on one mans use of the word but on whether or not the community can realize it's not that big of a deal. (i.e. Destiny )

Where to start with you? This is such a paradoxical mess you presented to me, it'd pain me to see you ever tangled up in grown up matters, again. His company, EG, seems to not share your views and I'm thankful...

Getting angry over a game you're not even professional at is very immature. The guy is 23 and It's apparent he hasn't just done this one time.

Apparently you missed my first post on the matter, that's not my problem. I came here as a disappointed fan of his casting and broke it down why you should watch what you say when you're a public figure. It's a pretty simple idea, don't over complicate it.

you're kind of a ragey twat on the ladder but I appreciate your casting and general personality when in front of the camera. I hope things work out for you.

I'm of the opinion that there are plenty of hard working talented people out there in the e-sports world who have the poise to not use slurs of any kind. Nobody is indespisble and no one is above being respectful and advancing the image of the community. As such I would like to see Orb punished or fired.

edit: And personally, Orb is a middle of the road caster; good not great. I should hope the blowback would be just as great if not greater if it were someone really good (Day[9] & co), notwithstanding that a good portion of the reason they've made it that far is because they're smarter than this, but Orb isn't even worth remembering. Orb is just wasting our time and making us look bad.
