This thread is for discussing recent bans. Don't discuss other topics here.

Take it to website feedback if you disagree with a ban or want to raise an issue.

Keep it civil.

NOTE: For those of you who want to find the actual ABL thread where the bans are posted. Please look in here: https://tl.net/forum/closed-threads/

I know mods can see a ton more than regular users, such as ban history, posts that have been edited out, etc. But can they also see how many of someone's posts have been reported?

This is proof that Cartin didn't do anything wrong. Admins on TL can ban mods here EZ but he wasn't banned. Why? Because "fuck you" can be legit. To the guys on the previous page quoting me, I respect your guy's opinion but I'm still convinced that there's nothing wrong with this.

speaking only for myself, I just don't see legitimate discussion coming from people insulting each other at the outset of their post. sure, "fuck you" can be used appropriately (mostly between friends and in a comedic sense), but random forum posters (especially ones that are arguing) will not be able to use it in a productive manner (in my opinion).

however, the mods looked at his post, decided it wasn't actionable (including at least one who didn't know he was staff), and i am fine with that explanation. i don't agree and i have seen similar posts banned or warned, but the mods decide, not me.

If you would like to point out a double standard in my moderating, please PM me. I'd be happy to explain my actions.

This thread is getting off-topic. Try to keep the subject on people who have been banned, not on TL moderation in general.

I just got a question about the ban list, sometimes I see a user get banned in under 1 min after making a new account, with the reason previously banned user. All that is ok, but how do you know your banning the right guy? Do you use IP, or some other way, and if you use IP how can you be sure its not someone on the same network (like a student home for instance)?

even banned users can pm staff, if there was a mistake they could still ask the staff to reconsider.

R1CH doesn't make mistakes. If the wrong person were banned, somehow it would be their fault.

edit:
Clarity_nl was just temp banned for 2 days by motbob.

That account was created on 2011-11-08 06:05:36 and had 108 posts.

Reason: Shouldn't have derailed the thread.

A bit of advice: don't troll SkyR in Tech Support. Like 90% of those "8k posts" are him using his free time to help people with their PC issues. He's also pretty smart.

I have an honest question here,

I just saw a user get banned for this post, and it raises a question that I've been wondering for quite a while.

Why is it OK to gender discriminate positively, but to question that ban-worthy?

I, personally, think some of the female discrimination in SC2 is fairly silly. For example, at MLG Providence; x6.Ailuj got a main-stage featured match against LosirA because:

It had potential to be a good game
She was the best female player competing
She was the most attractive female competing

If I've overstepped any boundaries with this post, please let me know, but I feel it's a legitimate thing to question.

I feel the same. I heartily dislike this "discrimination" that grants women these different tournaments for cash prizes and also gives them more attention, which in turn leads to money. I see nothing wrong with that post, and I would definitely say the same thing if he wasn't already banned for it.

It's bannable for the same reason balance whining is bannable; because no one wants to hear you whine.

If you really have a problem with it make a thread in website feedback.

meh I guess its a bit of affirmative action? if you dont give females an advantage to get exposure, then they will take a long time to develop to the point where exposure can be earned, and by that point, it may have become too discouraging. additionally, you add other female progamers who potentially will earn their spot

Far be it from a random poster on an internet board to start deciding how society works. Not that I know anything regarding the matter, but there is no need to focus on the sexist aspect. I'd say it would be more tasteful to just consider that female "pro gamers" are a minority in the scene, and as such should be given some key opportunities to hit the spotlight. Wasn't Ailuj the first female to get a main-stage match in MLG? I see nothing wrong with that.

The user was banned because he has a history of moderation, and I feel that his question isn't genuine. He is not interested in her answer, he is interested in injecting his opinion into an interview. That is childish and unacceptable.

Having that opinion is not bannable, but forwarding like that is just being a jerk.

females dont need any help to get additional exposure in video games. how many viewers do megumibear, julia and aphrodite get compared to much better players? signing females is a smart move by teams because they drastically increase their exposure. signing a female player who is moderately good is like a gold mine for a team. i guarantee that if a female makes it into code s, she will likely be the most popular player--like idra level popular.

1. sex sells (duh). and there isn't anything wrong with that.
2. women should be encouraged to get into esports and contribute, and one way to do that is to showcase female players at tournaments when possible, even if they are "not good" or something silly like that.
3. a more physically attractive woman will gather more attention from other women as well, not just men. its not a sexual thing (most of the time), its an unconscious admiration thing. the same reason why you see QBs and running backs on commercials 99% of the time instead of offensive linemen. unless it's a chunky soup or hungry man commercial, and even then you're more likely to see tom brady than matt light.
4. did i mention that sex sells?

females dont need any help to get additional exposure in video games.

i would disagree, in an area where 99.9% (HYPERBOLE!) of the players and the fans are still men, women participating should be encouraged and to some degree showcased.

Just wanted to post a quick shout-out to Jibba and Kwark for their remarkable restraint in the Republican Nominees Thread. There is some A-grade trolling happening but it is pretty border line and both of them have been really patient. I daer anyone to read this guy's posts and not want to punch your screen.
