Keep it civil.NOTE: For those of you who want to find the actual ABL thread where the bans are posted. Please look in here: https://tl.net/forum/closed-threads/ |

Nothing wrong with being curious, but definitely understand for high profile bans, it's never a rash decision. And this particular person has generated a LARGE amount of behind the scenes discussion in his lengthy tenure here. The ban was a culmination rather than "one post that crossed the line". It was a group decision made VERY unanimously.

so GH got banned for something like a week after he said it?

Probably some discussion behind the scenes the cause of that.

ooo drama so what was it
oh that’s not the drama i was hoping for. got banned for his claim that jealous was sending him hateful PMs in the feedback thread.
|
Yeah, not very juicy, tsk tsk

Should be a perm ban really, unless he can prove he really did get sent hateful/racist PM's regularily. There's something really nasty about untruthfully suggesting that a specific person did this.

We had a lot of internal discussions in the mod chat before we came to an agreement about a 30 day temp ban. Hopefully, GH will realize that he is always skating on very thin ice with us and that he really needs to shape up his posting.

Frankly I can understand what Drone was saying in the thread where GH made his little "joke" - that it was meant to make a point of some sort in some convoluted way. So, I can understand why he wasn't permed over something like that, even though the joke was in poor taste, and uncalled for, and he doubled down on it after I immediately asked him if it was bait, and he ignored the moderators asking him about it... But what DMCD is saying is true too, that given his history, it's surprising that he can continuously get away with stuff like this. From what I've seen, he doesn't actually contribute much of anything outside of being active in political threads, but I admit I may be wrong on that.

They won't perm the token black guy, how would that make them look

so he doesn’t contribute much of anything except where he contributes? what kind of logic is this? and who would survive a mass ban of anyone who “doesn’t contribute much of anything” under these terms?

Contributing to discussion on a forum is the bare minimum. In my mind I compared him to users who are granted leeway because of status (top player, former pro, etc.) or contributions (Liquipedia, strategy posts and discussions, community involvement such as training pupils or running tournaments, hosting mafia games, just to name a few examples). As far as I know, he doesn't do any of the above so he "doesn't contribute much" because what he does is the bare minimum, and clearly he isn't very good at going about that without getting in trouble and rubbing people the wrong way. I'd rate being active in politics threads to be a very low impact and low value form of contribution. This is a forum dedicated to StarCraft, after all. You're free to disagree on that point, but that's my perspective. Hence, I am surprised that he is granted so much leeway seemingly due to post count and longevity alone.
The people that would survive a mass ban on such terms are people who 1. Contribute or 2. Don't behave themselves the way he does, obviously.

I kind of get the point Drone was trying to make but it seems to me that "play stupid games, win stupid prizes" applies in this case.

We as a group went over it in Feedback that you can't slander someone and not provide some kind of evidence. He could have put '/s' or said it was a poor joke, and probably been fine. But as with xD, he refused to do so. So he got what he got. He gets a lot of leniency and he, in my opinion, tried to take advantage of it.
