It's hard to take arguments with them though, because they don't really say anything wrong, as thye don't say much at all, but still manage sound very convincing... And if you try to go after them, they are often good at shooting more empty, but fancy-sounding posts at you. It is hard to "win" the argument from an observers perspective. Yeah, and I'm more interested in quality discussion in that thread rather than just hazy dick-swinging, because I'd like to be better educated with respect to the politics of my country. (Unfortunately, a lot of politics plays out exactly like that though...) If you had wanted to be better educated you would have paid more attention to the things notes was saying. His posts were more like icebergs, packed full of content. It just so happens that most people when confronted with "absurd" ideas immediately dismiss them instead of thinking deeply about them.
I'm not going into the politics thread, but the post that got banned was exactly as others have described, full of fluffy sounding words without actually saying anything. Like he name drops Lessig and Sanders without saying in any way shape or form how they're related to DNC / corruption / campaign finance or whatever other loaded terms he was trying to link them to to get a rise out of people.
He wraps all this in really vague, coded story about his Mom that again hits on so many loaded terms without actually saying what his Mom believes in or is mad about. With the added shot at Kwark for no reason.
It's just a giant exercise in trolling (unless he's actually just trying to sound smart about it, which would just be sad).

name drops lessig and sanders? what? you realize that post was one in a long chain right? forums run on implication

I paid plenty of attention to the conversations he was having. Don't mistake my resistance to commenting as a refusal to read and attempt to learn

He's a philosophy grad student, and honestly I couldn't help but think "This is exactly why people dislike philosophy majors".

well i didn't really think that was sam because sam was a lot more agitated.
also he sounds like an english grad student not philosophy student. latter would form clearer but (still mostly inane) arguments. :D

Samdzat was a bit more looney. He'd throw the strangest subject tie-ins out of the blue. If it's the same guy, he really turned that down.
But that "bitch I teach reading comprehension" comment was priceless. That last h8ers one was supremely unexpected.
Edit: The connection between names was a bit more direct than I'd imagined. Notes from Underground: Countercultural Print Material from Samizdat to Zines. I'd just casually looked up what sam's name meant from last time.

Only that it is annoying, and you can still be happy that someone with that posting style got banned (for other reasons).

nvm I'm dumb. surprised this is only a temp since its a new account to get around a ban.
Hadleyx88 was just temp banned for 30 days by KadaverBB.
That account was created on 2015-10-12 05:20:25 and had 27 posts.
Reason: Don't try to dodge bans by creating new accounts, especially if you're just going to keep shitposting -.-

Speaking as somebody who actually understood what Notes was saying... the vast majority of his interactions were based on some version of the following: 1) make a vague statement interpretable in more than one way 2) whenever somebody engaged him about that statement, interpreting it in a particular way, he would choose a different interpretation and argue from that standpoint, making the other person look like they didn't understand (when in fact the fault was with Notes insufficiently specifying his original statement).
You have mistaken "arguing at cross purposes" for "packed full of content". (Admittedly, a conclusion which he very much tried to draw you towards with his constant references to his fancy education.) How much was simply trolling and how much was a legitimate failure to communicate I am unsure.

I agree with aquanim, it mostly felt like repeated use of fallacy of equivocation and such to troll by someone who understood enough to use those intentionally.

I find it peculiar how many people know personal details from the life of one of the most obnoxious posters in TL's history.

If only we could post in statements that had a single interpretation.

this conversation is kind of going off topic from the purpose of this thread, which is usually to light heartedly make fun on people who get banned. not debate over things.

apparently people are very invested into fallout.
