A federal committee has published a draft of the nation's third climate assessment report, a comprehensive analysis of the latest and best peer-reviewed science on the extent and impacts of global warming on the United States. None of the body's findings are entirely new, but the report suggests that evidence is now stronger and clearer than ever that the climate is rapidly changing -- primarily as a result of human activities, including the copious burning of fossil fuels. Observed weather extremes are on the rise, and the possible connection between at least some of these events and human-induced climate change is also more strongly supported by the science. The nation can expect increased impacts on everything from crops to fresh water supplies, and better and broader national plans for adaptation are needed, the assessment noted. The draft report, which was prepared by the so-called National Climate Assessment Development Advisory Committee and written and amassed by a group of 240 scientists, will be subject to a three-month period of review and public comment. "Climate change presents a major challenge for society," the committee's leadership said in a letter addressed to the American people. "This report and the sustained assessment process that is being developed represent steps forward in advancing our understanding of that challenge and its far-reaching implications for our nation and the world." In an emailed statement, Gene Karpinski, the president of the League of Conservation Voters, said the report confirms what many Americans already know. "Hurricane Sandy and the historic droughts, floods and heat waves happening across the country aren't a fluke, but the result of a climate warming much faster than previously thought," he said. "If we put off action on climate change, the costs of addressing its impacts will only rise and this extreme weather will be just the beginning. This report should serve as a wake-up call that it's time to act." Source You act as if climate change is something new that "HUMANS HAVE NEVER EXPERIENCED BEFORE!" If yes, you are very close minded. (this is idiot proof) User was banned for this post. I kind of wish we would ban everyone that didn't believe in global warming. The thread makes my head hurt sometimes. ~.~ On the bright side, if you start up your own forum you WILL be able to ban everyone who doesn't agree with your opinion on a somewhat controversial topic. Especially when tons of propaganda influence the public opinion (note I said influence instead of educate) on the issue at hand. I'll be honest with you here. I did not do dozens of hours of research on the topic nor have I read dozens of published articles and theses. I'm not going to pull some random bullshit statistics or quotes from my ass either. But from what I have come to understand, some of what this guy says is correct. Yes, Earth has been through various climate changes (not just to a hotter temperature but also the Ice Ages) throughout its history, both before human society came to be and even before man as a species appeared. And, should we not find a stable and accurate way to control weather to our will, similar events would occur in the future as well. Does industrial activity as well as the sum of personal uses of fossil fuel contribute to this phenomenon we are experiencing here, of global warming? Yes. Is the phenomenon accelerating? Yes. Is it really as bad as many people would bet their lives on? Not really. Can we do something about this issue? Most likely yes. However it's not that cost efficient right now, and as you should be well aware, large corporations manipulate things for their own interest i.e. profit. The massive propaganda against nuclear power does not help a single bit either, but nor do the hipsters who blindly "go green". As with many controversial topics, you will find a lot of people whose opinions are unknowingly shaped by propaganda, in other words the opinion that the media has pushed for the people to believe, and you will also find a lot of people who do not buy any of it, but refuse to do research and end up going in the other extreme. However, the truth is somewhere in the middle. Do let me know that I'm wrong and you (Blisse) would love to ban me though. ^.- EDIT 2: Actually do that through PM, I've probably posted enough off-topics in the ABL. lol EDIT: On January 14 2013 02:09 Cokefreak wrote: I only wish we would ban anyone that argues like this: Show nested quote + imagine the earth, imagine how huge it is, ok now 2/3rds of it is water, the other 3rd is land, inside that land you get a VERY SMALL percentage of fossil fuels available, now think if we burn that VERY SMALL percentage, you think that it will cause global warming, when you have volcanoes emitting more carbon than fossil fuels alone? The second post though was evidently facetious and quite representative of the bullshit that naive people such as the OP tried to push in that thread. ![]() yeastiality was just temp banned for 30 days by EvilTeletubby. That account was created on 2011-04-17 13:52:08 and had 353 posts. Reason: After carefully reviewing your posting and moderation history, you're being issued a 30 day ban. Reason being aggressive, condescending posting that you've been warned about multiple times before. There is nothing constructive or even tangible in your recent posts that I looked through. You add nothing of value. Fix it when you come back or we'll remove you permanently. It is rare to spot a ban suspect in two different forums at the same time. He was a little... aggressive in his posting. | ||
