About a fifth of the bans seem to be from continuing the gender argument in the LR thread, with of course your usual "wine" on cheese.  | ||

I sort of know in what situation people use it but it just seem to get used pretty much any time a guy say something in defence of women in gaming. | ||

Irrational defense of a minority group / ideal from some straw man argument, when the original minority group / ideal doesn't need your help or defense (or if your defense subtracts from the legitimacy of the problem said group / ideal faces). So say if a SC2 player just happened to be from China and lost a game, white knighting would be "defending" the player with some angry rant suggesting that people who are bashing the player support the Chinese government's stance on the internet and gaming (which is implied to detract from the player's ability to win), or just the Chinese government in general because it's a dumb straw man argument. So yes if the player is a girl, white knighting involves suggesting that people who are bashing the player for some arbitrary reason are sexist. People white knight the same reason why people troll, to feel a sense of superiority over other people, just in different formats and causality. People who white knight feel like they are helping an issue against an ambiguous evil straw man that they project onto other people, and thus morally superior to those people, they also feel like they will then win reputation with the party they are defending which is pretty pathetic. People who troll feel like they are controlling and forcing emotional responses from other people, and thus intellectually or emotionally superior to those people. Both are pathetic imo. | ||

I wonder what prompted ToKoreaWithLove to write out his guide to being a good PBU. There are lots of PBUs so why did this one get special treatment? (Assuming that DragonDispitous is a PBU). The name isn't offensive, at least I don't see how it would be but that may be my own ignorance, and none of his posts mentioned MKP. His posts were awful and I'm glad he is banned but I don't understand why TKWL would write out that guide for him. | ||

I'm a little sheltered about these sorts of issues, so I want to do my best to not come off as offensive here. I do have questions though. 1) I'm learning on TL about the difference between "Sex" and "Gender" (still not 100% sure though on the exact "definition" of both. 2) Was it more his harsh, abrasive tone in the post and less about what his actual argument was? Equal amounts of both? 3) Would the argument have been valid if he had approached it from a more scientific view point? Saying something along the lines of, "Genetically, this person is a male. Therefore, its not entirely accurate to use them as the basis for a male vs female in a sports argument because while this person identifies as a female, they have the body and brain of a male." Please understand that I'm just trying to understand the underlying issues surrounding the transgender subject, and the argument seems like a scientifically valid one. I do agree with the ban though. The guy was incredibly rude and inflamatory in how he presented his point of view. Thanks <3 | ||
