Yea, I'm going to keep harping on it because it really isn't a change that makes sense to me. I'd love to at least know the reason why it would be removed.

Yeah, I'd really appreciate at least an explanation. Glad to know that you're advocating for us too L_Master

Only thing i don't like are the comment blocks. The content frame is just as blue as everything else.. with a flat style a bit more subtle color variation would be nice.

We can't keep a (non gaming) forum on the sidebar when it isn't used enough to justify the spot. The Health & Fitness forum revolves around only a couple threads. The threads are now in Sports and can be used as before without taking up a full sidebar spot.

Out of pure curiosity... why have a limit on the total width of the page? I get having the sidebars at a certain width but what is the logic behind not having the middle of the website expand to close to 100% of the browsers width?
This is an incredibly nuanced issue to deal with in regards to how people use their devices. But basically, the width is an aesthetic design choice that coincidentally follows older legacy practices in designing webpages. As an example, the standard max-width for a long time was around 900-960px wide, and if you look at sites like nvidia or ign or even the ny times (there are tons of others), they are all around 972px wide. This is so that they can be viewed by as many users as possible and still be within the 1024 width so that no side scrolling has to occur. This is highly dependent though on your site-specific traffic though.

About 84% of TL users have a screen resolution larger than 720p, but whether they use a full sized viewport or not is an entirely different matter on top of this. So say we're talking about desktop users only, and assume that maybe the average users viewport is about 200px smaller than their total screen resolution (which isn't even always the case), what does that mean? Well I'm not sure how that data lies, but I can tell you that by designing to 100% of the viewport width, while it does afford using the maximum retail space, you still have to account for multiple resolutions down to the median-width at least, and especially smaller resolutions than 1024. This is why responsive design is starting to really gain momentum, because you can design 1 site, that works everywhere from your old 480x320 iphone to a 4k screen. And that would be a collosal project for TL.

Disregarding some of the facepalms in Win 8's functionality, it's beautiful and mostly well thought out visually (tons of designers have followed major cues from metro in the last few years.... including Apple).
Out of curiosity what makes going responsive a colossal project for TL. Looking through this site I'm not seeing anything that would be especially difficult. You would need a restructured menu and trim some sections but compared to other responsive sites this one I would consider easy. (Unless there's something I'm missing here)
I'm not really in a position to answer that unfortunately, but from what I've been told the back end would hold that up from being a simple solution. R1CH might have better idea.

I dont like if sites decide to drop their strong nice colours and change to this "modern" kind of silverish and everything light blue. It just looks like any other site, boring and faceless.
But whatever, the general structure is still there and we can revert structural changes to the old style. Stylish is already waiting to change the colours back to give TL.net more contrast again.

Reminds me of the changes that overclock.net underwent. I used to look the site and layout then they 'upgraded' and now it's slow and feels congested so I stopped going to it years ago >< At least these changes aren't as bad as those ones were but I still wish the website wasn't as stretched. It used to look more symmetric but it still seems stressed. Hopefully my eyes will adjust.

Btw, question, why was the anime discussion thread moved into media and entertainment? It was final under general so I'm a bit concerned that other members won't find it since I had to play with my settings before realizing this fact. Any way to move it back or is it a final decision kind of thing?

thx x1000 by adding viewer count of streams.
thx for being able to revert back to old sidebar groupings.
only 1 "problem":
when i change back to the old sidebar groupings, bw and lol are now swapped compared to before and now the order isnt the same as the stream order.

Do you have the filters in the top menu bar and 'Other' filtered? That seems to remove the 'other games' section of the sidebar.

Yeah that doesn't really make sense to me. I mean I could write a wrapper to make this whole site responsive without touching the mark-up, generate some menus based on the current ones in JS. Has nothing to do with the back-end.

Not saying you or rich are lying about it, but it's possible the coders aren't experienced with responsive to the point where they realize it's incredibly easy. Since my primary specialization is in CSS and accessibility I guess my views on what's easy or not might be a bit skewed.

But if you'd like when I have some free time I could make the site responsive as an example just to show that it isn't all that difficult.
