Has been explained. It is unquestionably necessary and you can remove them if you want.

Locking the dropdown, hiding the filterbuttons and more advanced filter options for streams and stuff was just what I was missing, and now you've added them. I've got no complaints about the new interface now. Thanks!

I like wo1fwood's better than leaving them on the left side. On the right they are noticeable enough but not as intrusive. Thanks for implementing the option to remove them.

I very much like wo1fwood's suggestion, seems more intuitive and in line with other websites having the hoe page link right in the corner.
