Positions and Application Process
TLPD Editor
Description: As a TLPD editor your principal task will be to help keep TLPD up to date, by manually adding games to the TLPD database. To get an idea of what's that like check out this TLPD Editing Guide. Fair warning, it is tedious and unforgiving work, often involving deep research, and tons of manual labor. It is time intensive as well. But extremely rewarding as a tangible result that clearly contributes to TL and the Starcraft scene in general.
Requirements: Knowledge of the scene and an ability and willingness to do research for the sake of completeness are key. Enough free time to contribute also required. Must have skype and be willing to go on IRC for coordination and direction, and must be able to work as part of a team.
Application Process: Please PM GMarshal the following information
Name: Timezone: Languages spoken: (This can be an important tool for certain tournaments.) Skype name: Availability: (When and how much time can you put towards this?) Knowledge: (How much do you know about the Pro-SC2 scene? Especially relevant is your knowledge of smaller cups and the international scene. This can be as detailed or as brief as you want.) Why you want to work with TLPD? (A short written statement about why you want the job.) Any relevant experience with database work, liquipedia work, or any other kind of data entry.
!
Note that all these are strictly volunteer and unpaid positions. The reward you get is working with awesome people and the satisfaction of having contributed.

We teach you and take things slowly. We've all broken things before, so that shouldn't be a worry.
I wish this woulda been asked for when BW was still active, I don't follow the SC2 scene nearly enough to have motivation for helping something I had thought I coulda helped with

I've always felt somewhat indebted to TLPD but don't have the time to help contribute to its upkeep. Is there a way to donate money, or other less time-consuming ways to help out?

If this was 6 months in the future I would be all on board... grad school dominates my time for now. Hopefully there will be another opportunity in the future.
Good luck guys! Would be interesting if I had time for this stuff. Hopefully the flaming over volunteer positions doesn't come up again >.< Have fun to all who apply!
I wish I could, but I'm afraid I just don't have that much free time (the free time I do posses is almost solely devoted to keeping up my sc skill). sorry.
Don't take this the wrong way... But TeamLiquid is a profitable business. These should in fact be PAID positions. This is no longer just a community website. It is a business. TeamLiquid has merchandise, outlet ability, advertisements that make money, a pro league roster (which are paid) and a merge with Team EG. The largest and most profitable team in USA. http://www.worthofweb.com/website-value/http://teamliquid.net (Highly accurate in reading impressions.) Estimated net worth of www.teamliquid.net is 25,000,000. Bringing in almost 4,000,000 a year. Not to mention if you wanted to know what the salaries of their players are, I can go into detail about that as well.
As I said, don't take this personally, but I believe people should know that www.TL.net is a business that is utilizing volunteer work to keep up their profitable website.

However many I can squeeze out of you while we work on solving the backlog, after that it will depend on volume. I would say 1 hour a day is a good measurement right now.

I do this entirely for my own benefit. You should see how many ladies I get when I tell them I write for TL.

And you know this by visiting a website, that ranks and ESTIMATES website worth. Which, i can even put my balls on the table, is highly inaccurate in this case.

Just so this doesn't go unchecked, you're delusional if you think those 'website valuation' sites are anywhere close to accurate. A high Google ranking doesn't instantly equal millions of dollars, which is about the only metric these things are able to check.

I'll be definitely filling an application this evening sometime. I've been eagerly waiting for an opportunity like this to delve into helping TL in any small way I can.

If you don't get accepted LP is another good place to start
it is only my suggestion but I think if there was a better way to submit results; some interface changes that would make it easier to add those results then more ppl would just add them because why not. I once tried to figure it out and gave up
I am not buying it! Seriously though is this only for SC2 or can I apply and add in games for BW games and for instance fix Sziky's profile because he was apparently on Axiom and a hundred other SC2 teams...

1.) You can apply for helping with the sospa db, and the non-functioning team history is a known issue, it just doesn't have an easy fix.
I have the time, being an agoraphobic freeter and all, but I think having so much responsability would cause me too much anxiety. I'll get working on LP instead... I have a lot of articles I wanted to rewrite and change, but haven't gotten around to doing it.

As of now LP sure is a better place to contribute if you don't want to commit to anything.

I would love to contribute in any way. let me know if there is anything i can do! I don't actually watch the less premier leagues but i do keep up with the results. I usually only WATCH gsl. I don't know if that's okay or not so let me know please!
When I saw this news post in the Dota 2 section I thought it was a ramp up for Dota 2 TLPD. Which I might have applied for, I wish you the best of luck but don't follow SC2 that closely any longer. Might want to make it clearer than having to read 2/3 of the post to know.

You don't actually have to watch anything. Just know where to get the results from. Which usually is already provided by us

While I follow it I don't watch a lot of SOSPA games, I do however watch the majority of the foreigner stuff.
I was thinking of covering the difler cup (, but only the later stages so that I don't inflate players winrates versus lower tier players and if somebody gets to the Ro4 or the losers bracket finals and they don't have a profile yet, they probably deserve it and will need it in the future)

You know where else can you work with awesome people? Under the bridge cooking beans on bonfire with the king of the hobos, because they also don't get paid, even in Wall mart coupons...
You never get much opportunities like this to waste your time...
Edit: GMarshal is right. Everyone who does this is a hero... so how about an account for TL where you can Donate Money for volunteers. Every month the Money would get shared among all volunteers of TL..

Unfortunatly he is right. It's time intensive. It's like i would say for example: Hey guys, whenever you have time come over to my hood and do the lawns. The families are all cool and when they are at home I'm sure you will get something to drink.. perhaps..
You realize this website is built entirely on volunteer labor right?
You also realize that somethings are satisfying in themselves and don't require monetary remuneration?
PoP coded TLPD from scratch and made not a cent off of it. the 100000+ games on tlpd? All added by hand for free. Its a labor of love and dedication, its also why we aren't taking a bunch of random people and are instead taking applications. If you don't want to contribute, you are free to remain a leech and take advantage of others contributions, but at least have the common decency to not muck up the thread.
Just wanted to say thank you very much to everyone contributing to TLPD !
Some people may not be aware of this, but TLPD is without a doubt one of the best features in all of eSports. In the other communities, they don't have anything remotely close to the glorious brilliance that is the TLPD. Even in the FGC which is like twenty years old and one of the pillars of eSports, they don't have this kind of stuff.

If you're good at something, never do it for free... Time is money, right?
I automatically assume that people who do this kind of online volunteer labor have a lot of free time and don't appriciate it very much... But it's just me and I am aware of a chance that I may be wrong

Time is money if you're extremely superficial. The reason each and every one if these volunteers do what they do not necessarily because they have a lot of free time, not necessarily because they want money for it at some point, but because they love it and are passionate for it. I have experienced first hand the extremely welcoming community around the writers, TLPD and Liquipedia and in my opinion that alone makes it worth it, never mind that you are contributing more than 99% of the people who visit TL ever will.
Perhaps this may not be the appropriate thread and if that's the case then i apologize, but I was wondering.
Is there any way that I can help out TLPD without having to take on the responsibilities of an actual position (sort of just like an editing liquipedia thing)? I'd like to help out, because I think its an incredible resource, but I almost certainly wouldn't have the time (and probably not the required knowledge either =P) for this position.

TLPD was great during the Brood War era! I don't know it's status of SC2 but this is the perfect time to kick it into gear with HoTs coming out.

LP is slowly taking over TLPD, but it still shouldn't have open access.
