Wow you made 4k posts in 1 year lol.
Okay lets get into this. I just want the report reason to tell me what is going on. If you are reporting balance whine, tell me that it is balance whine. If you are reporting a "bad" thread tell me why it's bad. If it's a 1-liner question OP or something, just say "not enough content for a thread" or something like that.
Those reports are obviously pretty easy to make and I would figure it out if you wrote some shitty other reason Now for something more difficult.
Let's say you are big into anime (I am not at all) and you are reading the anime discussion thread. Somebody posts something that is obviously bad (to you), you go report it. If you give me a "waaaaaat" or "should be obvious" as a reason, I am going to be kind of pissed. I have no idea what's going on and now I have to investigate what the hell is actually wrong here. At least give me something, is the post a spoiler? Is he posting something that is somehow inappropriate? I don't know, you tell me, you want me to take a look at it.
If a report like that comes in, I always just want to non action it and move on. Then I realise, that I actually want to be a good mod and don't do it
It's basically just common sense. I don't want an essay for a report reason, I just want something to work with.

that makes sense. do you guys prefer being called mods or banlings?

A lot of my report reasons are 'shit post' usually. Really I should just be given a ban hammer to cut out the middle man...

I don't really care if I am called mod or banling. Right now banling would certainly make more sense since we totally swarmed this question!

2 things: Would this be the wrong place to ask if my reports are any good (not just in terms of % but in terms of what I post), I feel like I have no idea what happens when I click that button.
and more importantly monk, why dont you talk to us anymore, we miss you

You can ask for your stats in this thread: http://www.teamliquid.net/forum/viewmessage.php?topic_id=384553 I don't think we have a good system to figure out if your past report reasons have been good, but if your stats are good I would assume so. The report feature is getting an update though (soon), then everything should be better

I tend to put my scathing personal attacks in the report box, though I haven't reported anything in a while.

Tofu I do the same actually, I think I've insulted the poster in my reports more than once.

Has anyone ever reported his own post?

rabidch did under my suggestion once, I couldn't report myself so I asked him to see what would occur

reportable people can still do it by directly inputting one of their own posts under http://www.teamliquid.net/forum/report.php?post_id=
also, nothing happened to rabid

Reasons help a lot. There are a ton of reports to go through, so if you are clear it makes our lives easier. This goes tenfold for when you report a post that is really long.

Even for the obvious like starting a post with 'You fucking moron' just put personal attack instead of lol, idiot, or the like. Before I became a banling and reported a lot there was two things always cached in my report box, personal attack and balance whine in a lr thread.

If it's something super obvious such as blatant balance whining in the LR Threads then a simple report reason of "Balance whine" is fine. However, for other stuff it's very useful to have someone put in more information into the report reason. When you report a post, we can see the post you're reported and we can go to the thread in question and have a read around. But report reasons are incredibly useful for understanding context and for threads where there's been a chain of posts leading up to the post in question. Sometimes it's not obvious what the issue is, and different threads and subforums can be very context-specific in how things are handled.

EDIT: man that question was really good for banlings :D Man it would be nice to make detailed reports more often but it's kind of hard when the max character limit is 140 now. I even wanted to comment on this in the Reporting tips thread GMarshal made into website feedback but the thread was removed before I could even respond, probably waiting for that report feature update that's happening 'soon.

All banlings are moderators (mods) but not all mods are banlings... EDIT: woops, Moderators are the Reds. Banlings are Banlings, but they moderate O_o ... hope that helped =)
