IPL 3 Finals at Caesar's Palace in Atlantic City is coming up, and we're making it easier for you to follow it with our coverage portal! Currently it displays all qualifier results and invited players, as well as easy access to Liquipedia links and the IPL 3 live event format. Once the event draws closer we'll be putting up exact broadcast schedules and more IPL related content.

IPL 3 will also have a sponsored countdown which you can find top right, you will see big events pop up there from time to time.

Wait, i thought MC was invited as well? He's not in the list anymore, did he cancel or something, or is it just a mistake on the page?

edit: nevermind, 2 posts back already explained it.

The IPL 3 seems to be the first tourny that TL has supported so much that they put a count down on the banner.

I don't disagree. The IGN team has been the most dependable and impressive so far. They are the only tournament organizer I would be comfortable giving a large amount of money to ( if I was a sponsor).

Sweet countdown timer, bro. I won't forget for sure now.

Two more weeks. Then all hell breaks loose.

Let's hope IGN executes their first event well. Do better than at least NASL and people will love you haha.

Well, presumably IPL 3 paid to have that countdown timer put there if it is sponsored as suggested in the OP.

Also, I'm really disappointed in everyone in this thread thus far. It's a thread about a portal made by HB...

Anyway, here's what was happening behind the scenes that caused that linking mishap in the OP.

So If I'm looking at the format correctly, pool play is pretty much completely meaningless? All 16 players get slotted into a single elim tournament, all that a good pool play record will get you is a better seed?

At least in MLG doing good in pool play means less matches to win later..

Not sure I like the sponsored logo in the upper right, but eh. Whatever pays the bills, I guess.

9/16 Koreans in the groups, here's hoping we'll see good people coming up from the Open Bracket.

Well, the way I see it is that you wouldn't want to leave anything up to chance in a 100.000 dollar tournament.

You take every little advantage you can get - including a higher seed if possible.

So even though it's non-elimination, players will hopefully give it their all to get that advantage that could be decisive in the end.

We intend to stream every game from the championship bracket. Double elimination would not allow for that unless we scrapped the open live qualifier altogether. Single elimination does have its merits, though. Every game becomes super duper meaningful!

I'll make every effort to watch this. I haven't followed IPL like I have MLG for some reason, maybe because they put out less hype before the big events, but IPL is a well run tournament for sure. The countdown ad there will help remind me, good move.

I do agree with the sentiments of some other that the group play isn't going to hugely meaningful. It'll be nice to not get last in your pool and avoiding one of the top 4 of the open bracket, and to a lesser extent further up in your group, but it's overall still not going to be very impactful. I'm sure they'll still be good games though.

Wow. I love the prize pool distribution in this tournament. If you get top 16 in the open tournament you walk away with $1000. That's pretty damn spiffy even if you get properly crushed in the championship bracket. And every invite automatically gets $1000 to help defray travel costs.

IPL is off to a good start!

He's a bigger name than Nerchio. The invited players are big names apparently, as otherwise I'd not invite WhiteRa, Ret, Idra, MC or BoxeR.

What am I saying? There are stronger players than all of these...Mana is stronger than WhiteRa, heck HasuObs too tbh; Ret isn't even top 5 foreign zerg; Idra slumping for months hasn't won anything and instead stomped by NA players (used to be other way round ); MC code B, nuff said; BoxeR is BoxeR and not Emperor anymore.

You get it now?

Don't get me wrong, i love what IGN is doing for E-sports and i'm going to watch this event. However i think that the competition model in IPL 1 and 2 was better than this one.

Another thing that bothers me is why didn't IGN invited the both runner-ups from their previous tournaments (Kiwikaki and Nerchio) and decided to randomly invite players like MC and Boxer that never participated in the events. There are other oddities like the invitations of Huk and Boxer (I guess we can understand this one). This does not reward the history and commitment of the players with the event.

Other than that gg gl

Because what IPL, and any other serious tournament for that matter, really cares about is viewership. Thats why they invite people who will give them many viewers, people like MC and Boxer. Nerchio and Kiwikaki, while both are excellent players, don't have the same crowd appeal as the emperor and the former President.

Umm, Koreans were excluded from participation in IPL 1 and 2 so how is it fair to reward commitment to the tournament when they haven't even had the opportunity to show it?

So maybe I'm missing something but wasn't WellPlayed.org the original community forum for the First IPL? Or was it NASL? Seems like TL is the official community forum for NASL and IPL now which is dope... I mean it's awesome that TL got the gig, but does anyone know what happened there? I thought Well Played did all the graphics and everything for the first season of IPL? Or am I confused?
After I captured the elephant in the room, swept her under the rug for the hell of it... I welcome you to the melting through, of a planet that was selfish in its development of a healthy view.

WP was doing the graphics and stuff for IPL S1 but after that season IPL decided to internalize everything and got their own staff for everything. NASL I never really got in the first place what the point of being the "official forum" was and have no idea what the motivations were to stop that arrangement.

I don't think many people would know, and I doubt that they would tell you. Probably not that much.

Enough for IGN to see a reasonable return on their investment. There really isn't much more that needs to be said. It's the same with all advertising.

This is just the first time (that I have seen) with third party event countdowns.

Why you would try to make one site an official forum is beyond me. People will post where they please regardless of text on a page saying it's the forum[/i] or not. Example: Battle.net. Sure if you want a Blizzard employee to respond you'd do well to post there but that would be the exception.

I really really really really really really really really

really really really

really like these tournament portals. I have a crazy work schedule so it's great to be able to be able to just pull up the mlg portal and check out what matches were played, the results, etc quickly. they're also well organized (unlike the mlg site lol)

p.s. link works fine stop harassing the wonderful and hard-working person that is hot bid
