Many TL users love discussing these games. Our League of Legends Forum has been active for a while now, and with the big $1 million Dota 2 competition coming up at IEM Cologne, we've decided to add a Dota 2 Forum as well. They currently show up on the sidebar under Sports and Games.
For those that are concerned about StarCraft's status on TL, don't worry. This is only step 1 of our plan to completely phase it out from TeamLiquid, don't tell anyone.
+ Show Spoiler [Yes] +That last line was a joke. It's amazing this spoiler has to exist.

Whats the EG announcement Nice! I was hoping to find a place where I can discuss Dota 2. Seems like a big deal and I'm new to it.

So hyped for dota 2 LoL and dota, sorry HoN.
|
Wishes that diablo will eventually get its own also.
|
Just noticed it on the sidebar, and said wtf. Pretty good news.
|
Hopefully Dota2 will be as good as everyone hopes it to be.
|
Awesome! I have no MOBA experience at all but I'll certainly buy DotA 2 when it's released.
|
Sweet news, can we get them underneath a spoiler tag on the left panel while we're at it?

Wut? LoL is coming out of the dark hidden recesses of TL's subforums? What's going on?
 Glad to see it.
|
Is there a way to completely hide those forums, not just the threads? Sidebar's too messy.

god i love you hot bid, dota and lol fans, take it outside, leave the rest to us sc2 fans.

Maybe a silly question, but is TL interested in becoming a larger hub for non SC related things as well? i.e. Liquid DotA team perhaps? Just curious.
|
|
Hah nice spoiler!
Not a fan of LoL, but dota 2 might be good.
|
ah nice! happy that they have easy to find sub forums now, gives me a break from all the whiners at the leagueoflegends.com forums lol and once DotA 2 comes out.... so pumped!
|
I hope it will be fiercely moderated. Inviting the dota community to TL as it is wouldn't be a good deal.
|
Hard to ignore these games when they announced such sick prize pools.
In comparison:
MLG Raleigh SC2: 14k$ Dota 2: 1000k$ LoL: 5000k$
I hope that the prize money for SC2 will grow as well.
Either way, for eSport as a whole that is quite big and I embrace the additions here at TL.net.

They're no worse than the unfiltered SC2 community. Who hasn't taken a peak at the SC2 battle.net forums?
I do agree with you though.

Isn't this.... surprising?

To be fair u cant compare it to mlg, which has a ridiculously low prize pool given its presitge/community hype. It'd be more fair to compare to gsl (120k) or nasl (100k), and those happen much more frequently over the year than dota2/LoL tournaments.

We now know where TL's moba alliance is at. (Then again, this is a mostly starcraft site, so HoN shouldn't be hurt).

This is great for ESPORTS. If you're not excited for this you are ruining ESPORTS

dota 2 is going to be so good. in gabe we trust.

Nice addition. Great to see them visible too, much easier now.

Wow the Lol forms arn't hidden anymore we don't have to be afraid of the publicity :D.
I'll take it they where put in alphabetic order and move on from that.
|
Awesome! I haven't played LoL in a while, but DotA2 looks excellent, I'm glad they got their own sub-forums
|
I really don't like this. Takes up too much space on the sidebar and you can't minimise the forum name. LoL, while popular, isn't a competitive game and isn't in the spirit of TL, and we've seen 10 screenshots from DotA2. Why not add a CS:GO forum? imo these should be kept as subforums of Sports and Games and left at it.
|
|
atleast i dont have to search for the LoL forum anymore
good news
|
I think these games deserve a separate website of their own.
I somehow want TL to stay SC exclusive.

i disagree with things like it "isn't a competitive game" (good luck defending that logically. terrible competitive game maybe, but it is a game played competitively nonetheless), but otherwise yea, i don't get why these should get their own subforum. dota2 especially makes absolutely no sense to have as a forum, there's literally nothing to talk about other than threads that would be posted in general about announcements to the game.
LoL community uses the Riot forums very heavily and the only reason i can see adding these forums is because of esports hype. that's kind of silly if you consider that you don't have a fighting game section or a shooter section. i do get that probably many people on TL play LoL, i played LoL for a while too, but a lot of people on TL probably play fighters as well. the distinctions that would make LoL sub-forum worthy over fighting games especially (i can maybe understand shooters since the genre as a part of esports is slowly fading) are virtually arbitrary to me unless there's something i'm not considering
|
Dota2 forums!!!! YESS might have to remove lol once dota 2 comes out.

just sayin

Even the biggest tour in SC2 is just 1/10 of the Dota 2 tour. And we don't know if it will be a one time thing, or if they will make more big tournaments. The game isn't even released yet.

This post confuses me. Either you aren't a DotA player at all and you don't know that DotA 2 is just gonna be DotA 1 with better graphics, better game engine, and a more in depth online system, or your actually hoping that DotA 2 will have the awesome new online features that Valve says it will.
DotA 2 is a weird case where basically the game WILL live up to the hype because it's essentially the same game as before. Anyone who hypes up DotA 2 is hyping up DotA 1.
|
Dota2 is going to be interesting, hope it can whipe out both HoN and LoL. I have played both but I feel DotA is such a classic and fun, there's where the ideas came from. Icefrog must be proud!

Can we also get a fighting games, quake and CS forum too? Might as well go the whole 9 yards with it and be the #1 Esports website around.

For the LoL part at least, the $5 million prize pool is across a year long season, and won't all be actual money (since they say "prize pool"), so I wouldn't worry so much about SC2 considering that's only for 1 weekend event in comparison.

Yeah man, Hot_Bid runs the show here, and if its ESPORTS it belongs on Teamliquid.
Then again so are other games, but the moba genre playerbase has a very close relationship with SC, alot of people here play both games.

I am always looking for the "Team Liquid" or "Elitist Jerks" of whatever game it is I am playing. For League of Legends, the best sites are small and are all good at different things.
I, for one, love the idea that Team Liquid's community might open up to these other games with SC2 as well. Esports family, indeed! <3

Quite honestly I don't like this. I feel Team Liquid will shift focus from StarCraft with this. And we'll get a huge influx of LoL users who come troll StarCraft forums.

I am actually glad that there are these individual sub-forums on TeamLiquid to discuss the game, instead of using the original LoL forums which is filled with total children sometimes. TL will actually show what is good about LoL and DotA 2 and people who represent the game properly instead of constant bitching that you find in game, maybe it is a step towards change in the general LoL community. I doubt it though.
|
Cool to have a sub forum added since the DotA/HoN thread has been big for a long time.
|
I was waiting for this to happen every since the popularity and price money of these games has increased. I think it will be perfect for TeamLiquid.
I have one question though. Does this mean that TL might add a Dota/LOL team to their roster?

Yeah, hopefully that's the case.
My point though was just that this seems quite unexpected/random to the extent that I feel like I'm missing something. Adding subforums on the sidebar isn't something that's taken even remotely lightly (I've been wanting them for the SC2 Tournies section for a while), so something like creating a subforum for a game with 4 threads seems pretty 'out-there' to me. I'm not particularly saying it's bad, it just seems awkward as hell.

I'm glad you feel that way DotA/LoL communities are terrible, and IMHO the only reason the SC/SC2 community is as well mannered as it is, is because of the way TL is run!
Glad we can all support (all) ESPORTS together! I'm a fan of all three games, so its pretty frickin spiffy that I can enjoy the TL community with all three.

Thing with this, TL's already been through this. Another game comes to mind that gave us a huge influx of posters who trolled TL forums... Starcraft 2 anyone? Live Report, Strategy, Balance, and Females in eSports threads have all taken a blow. And there are a few BW exclusive players that feel quite overwhelmed by the SC2 posters and dislike shift of TL's focus. However, over time TL's mods have been clearing out the rubbish posters and maintaining their standards and overall things are starting to stablize- and if it hasn't it will.
With LoL and Dota2, the TL standards won't change, but they might need a whole lot more mods (just like when SC2 beta was announced till now.)

It'd be interesting to see whether Nazgul decides to make a Liquid team for LoL or DotA.

Teamliquid trying to become the one stop shop for esports?
It looks like they realized they can get a shit ton more viewers and users if they add these forums. I'm not sure if this is a good idea considering many of the players of LoL and Dota already have set homes for these types of games. Trying to draw users from there onto here when this site is mainly SC and SC2, not sure if it will work or not and good luck to Teamliquid.net for their efforts!
|
TL is becomming a site for all epic games. This website will develop amazingly in the comming years i think
|
Well I guess it's time to try out LoL and find out what the rage is all about..
|
I certainly hope that in 1 year time I won't be feeling like the long standing BW community members felt at SC2 release when Teamliquid was wrested away from them.
I don't really care about esports in general, I'm just a Starcraft fan. But I guess as long as TL maintains its standards, I'll just stay in my little corner of it.
|
Awesome news, this will surely make LoL and DotA 2 even bigger, introducing it to SC fans and all. I can't believe you had to have the spoiler Hot_bid, that's hilarious.
|
Signed onto TL.Net because of the DOTA 2 forum. This will be interesting to say the least.
Although IMO, LoL is dead. Even with the 5 million dollar season, which means teams must win all those tournaments for the 5 million. Don't even mention HoN...

I think our community will be pretty sweet after a year or so. It's very much needed that LoL/DotA has a good community.

Hopefully it grow soon :D

Don't worry, in 10 years or so, Starcraft 2 will be old, and the hipsters will move on to new hipster things!

I think this will really help bring e-sports together. Good work TL
|
Hot_bid being careful in his trolling...
Now I have seen everything.
And you guys even unveiled area 51 ( thats the forum part which LoL is on, damn guys now we cant make jokes about that anymore)

I really think this community should expand to other games. its a very good idea. TL is the best community out there, and doing this for other games will just help e-sports in general. I say its win win for everyone really. Teamliquid gets more people on the site and help out other games become a better community.
|
Still guess SC is gonna be no.1 on TL, just cus of TL's history. Its Great to see additions though, now i can talk about dota and sc on the same forum... Amazing

I feel the same way actually but I don't mind the change really. Good move though I mean DOTA has that $1mil tourney and LoL season 2 is $5mil so the timing would be right.
|
... i really hope this page not make the mistake that gosugamers made ... having now so many games that sc section rly sucks there
this is a sc page and should stay that way, dont like adds

Nice, hyped up for DOTA 2, lets get sc2 the hell out of these forums yo.

Thanks for doing this. I no longer need my weird LOL bookmark, and it's great to see threads on the side bar again.
|
I feel left out.....T.T
Where the HoN forum? Why must we use that massive trash heap of a thread?
|
Glad to see a place where I know a non-horrible moba community can take refuge. A little sad hon doesn't get a forum since most of my experience in the genre is with it, but hon is pretty much dota.
|
wooot dota2 ftw hope this game is going to kick ass
also: at first i didnt read who made the post but as soon as i read the line over the spoiler i was sure ...
|
Cool stuff! Good for TL to do this
|
Please move the Forums somewhere else in the menu... Even with all forums in the "general forum" collapsed (is that the right word?!?) I now have to scroll on my laptop to see the first threads of the SC2 Trourneys forum :p
Else: I don't care, add as many forums as you like (it will most probably not change the TL community), but these games are so boring^^
|
|
|
Great News, I can only hope this will stop Dota2 people posting on LoL threads.
+ Show Spoiler +Hot_bid having to state he's joking made me sad
|
Good move imo if there are enough people who like the games and have a need to discuss them. If the subforums get bigger they will get their own team of banlings in the long run and perhaps even dedicated (news)writers who focus only on those games.
If you have no interest in those games just don't go there. I also don't go to the BW forum or the SC2 forums besides General and Tourneys. But that doesn't mean I don't want them there. It only means I have nothing there I relate to at this point.

glad to see TL now has a dota2 subforum. finally, sc2 and dota2 in one site!

You could give "Sports and games" an own section between BW and Blogs or something. The General Forum pushes the SC2 and BW Forums quite far down. Specially if you think about adding other games somewhen...
|
So where is my Goldeneye N64 general forum huh ? I demand this is put in as it's very active and highly wanted!

i don't like it -.-
tl.net was a sc:bw community site (the most awesome one) then tl.net went to become an sc2 community site (logical step, i disliked it for reasons tht don't belong here and are totally subjective)
now tl.net is becoming a general gaming community site?! ...please don't ^^

It's funny, but I agree with the spoiler lol.
|
Well let me tell you a few hings about the DotA community. Since DotA is/was F2P, every 15 year old idiot child could show off his bad mannerism's and he had the perfect site to do it on. GosuFlamers, also knows as Gosugamers to the regular people. The moderation there was sub-par and no-one really cared that all the stupid people were gathering there.
Starcraft 2 costs about 50 bucks, the exact amount of money that's required to filter out all those kids playing from internet cafe's somewhere in the balkans.
I really hope DotA 2 will not be F2P so I can discuss everything DotA 2 related HERE, on my favorite site, without some brainless douche calling me names because he doesn't agree with me.

I agree with this guy in my personal feeling of the spirit of the website. Might hurt a little less if BW wasn't aaaall the way at the bottom, but that's just a small thing.
I also see TL's point of view though- they have a viable business here. Resisting alteration could kill that business. However, I really hope that the quality and strongly personal attitude of the website and it's writers/mods/admins etc doesn't alter too far as the whole thing grows. That would alienate many older members, (which I am, despite my post count).
I'm sure the DOTA/LoL players will love this though. It's an intelligent move.

Having well moderated forums for them is great news, since most of the discussion around them pretty much everywhere has a high chance of turning into flamewars and trollfests. With those prizes around I hope it won' t create unneccesary bubble only to burst after season or two at the lack of funds and interest.
|
TL's moderation might bring in more site traffic from forum goers who know how to appreciate it. Great initiative!
|
hmm, I dunno what to think about this move. LoL deserved the spot on the sidebar, since it has a history on TL(subforum), but for DotA 2 ... it seems like the money just served its purpose. The game gets so much attention, before its even released and I think it should earn it first.
|
Should just put LoL, HoN and D2 together in one forum, I mean why not? people could add sub tags [LoL] [HoN] [DotA2]. They are all basically the same exact game.
|
Starcraft 2 forums usability for the win!

Are you forgetting something? SC2 is at the forefront because Team Liquid is a SC2 pro team not a BW team. SC2 is also an internationally played game where BW events are all in korea. TL is an international site, so it's only natural that SC2 is the main game represented here.
|
|
Well, looks like I have to scroll further down to get to the BW section. Better look for that Firefox extension.
|
It seems like it's really just a result of all the Lol vs HoN vs DotA2 hate. I dunno if the place on the sidebar was necessary, but if one of them was gonna get it both would have to. Seems like HoN's much more mature than the others

LoL has quite a few fundamental differences, that warrants different sub-forums just as much as SC2 vs Brood War.
I feel like the current situation is pretty ideal. And on that note, thanks for the sub-forum!

It's a great opportunity to grow for TL.net. However, this time will be a bigger challenge than integrating sc2 community, since you already had bw community.

there is minor mistake in the opening post. It says 1million tournament at IEM cologne. The tourney is held at gamescom. No biggy just wanted to point that out :D

I kinda have to agree with milikatov... this feels just like someones trying to troll hard and hiding it with an obvious troll at the end of the OP.
While the idea of treating the e-sports community members like babies and putting them in one cage is a great idea, TL.net might not be the best cage for them.
Maybe in a couple of months we will see DotA2/LoL featured stream on the right sidebar, DotA2/LoL news and headlines, etc. This might be good, but its better on a different site.
Keep an eye on that word "Starcraft" on the site banner as it might soon disappear. -_-

You might want to recall your TL history. SC2 is only at the forefront because of circumstance of foreigners jumping from BW to SC2 and all of TL's players transitioning as well. For an extremely long time it was only Brood War that was hosted with, this site lived and breathed BW, and would have not existed if not for the presence of the Korean scene. If TL wants to become a pro-gaming and e-Sports portal, then it has to put all e-Sport related fora under a single banner THEN split the different pro-gaming scenes under it.

Guys it's just a sub-forum. You are taking it waay too seriously. There is a lot of people playing LoL and soon DotA 2, I'm sure most of the decision was based around organisation purposes. There is a lot of shit being discussed about LoL and soon DotA 2 that would just flood the Sports & Games section.

Not that my word matters but should just stick all MOBA games to one forum rather than giving two of them own forums. Doubt if the traffic for one game alone will be big enough to really make use of unique forums.
This is opinion from someone that doesn't play them though.

DUH, I'm not retarded. There are only a few who really have no clue what this website was before SC2 was released. The site was built on BW but is carrying on as a SC2 website. The BW section will always be there.

This isn't about BW vs SC2.
It's about the fact that a link to the forum for an unreleased game unrelated to Starcraft is pretty much in everyone's face, but to access the SPL grand final live report thread you have to go all the way down to Blogs basically. -_-
|
I have to agree with some other users, being able to remove portions of the forum (on account and not user based script basis) would be a nice thing to add now that the sidebar is starting to get very long.
I would for example remove the entire SC2 section, Tech Support and BW strategy, LOL, Fan Clubs, User streams and Liquid Team News from my side bar. While considering removing some other sections as well. Will post a suggestion in website feedback.
Oh and I like the Dota 2 section. Will probably use it a bit now and in the future (if the game is good).

LoL was not just chosen recently. we used to have a thread just like HoN in sports and games. it moved extremely quickly and essenitially was always at the top. fakesteve(or some other mod) decided it would be worth it to make it into a hidden subforum which we have had for a long time now. I dont see how there should be any more reason to have a dota2 subforum than a LoL one that already has a devoted TL community.

The BW section might always be there, but e-Sports growing and an unsure but definite catering of TL to people who play MOBA games by having its own LoL and DotA 2 sections, I think it's high time that people are given more options on how they want to read up on the site. All that BW fans are asking for is that there's some flexibility in viewing the website (e.g. having the BW section before SC2 as a selectable option; being able to choose which game sections are easily view-able etc.) instead of feeling consigned to the dust-heap despite their presence being the force that let TL have a solid base to build what the SC2 section is today. It's just an appeal for usability from a segment of the community that feels marginalized after having done so much.

It's just an appeal for usability from a segment of the community that feels marginalized after having done so much.
Seconded. Also, one event, even if it is for 1million dollars, does not justify its own forum section. However if we're going to have these, I'd like to request a CS 1.6 section, since that at least is a longtime e-sport worth noting.

CS 1.6 is gone after CS:S comes out. Q3A is gone after Q4 comes out. So many predictions...

WTF Team Liquid!? Why the hell would you phase out the game that made you great? StarCraft is the entire reason that people come to this website, getting rid of it is a travesty. Especially for games like LoL and Dota2. I mean, even their acronyms are rubbish!
TL I've never been more worried for your future. First losing Huk, now phasing out SC altogether? Shame on you, TL. Shame on you.
+ Show Spoiler +Seriously, how obvious does trolling need to be?

Somehow I expect a sub-forum war to ensue with many temp bans between these two in the future Goofy predictions not withstanding I think this is cool for TL to expand in this fashion.

Yeah, these two forums are a great way to get more people in the user base of Teamliquid!
I already posted like 9 posts in the DotA forum. :D

Awesome stuff! This is great, given that I will definitely be playing Dota 2 from the beta and hopefully onwards. I can't wait to discuss some strategy and learn new things. I am rather new to Dota style games, so this will benefit me greatly. Thanks!
