Switzerland, the true home of Chocolate, Alps, Cows and Mandatory Military Service. We are a small nation, not much more than 8 million inhabitants, meaning there is an inherently small pool of youth-blood to draw on for compettitive gaming.
That's why this is here, to call out to all Swiss TL.net members, expat or not, to stand up and declare that you love esports. I want the Swiss scene to grow, to prosper (to exist??) , and we can only really do that if we unite and get more involved.
Battle.net 2.0 EU has no national rankings so I can't look at those and be sad, but seriously WHY THE HELL are there only less than 10 active swiss players I want these rankings FULL!
Especially with the influx from SC2 I've seen many more post from [Location=Switzerland], we really need to get this thing going guys!
TL;DR : If you are in any way Swiss, come out and post here so we can get stuff going! For the sake of the scene, we should accept anyone who feels like being a part of the Swiss scene, so it's ok if you live right next door, are originally Swiss but don't currently reside there, or even if you lived there for more than 6 months and liked it! ((:
+ Show Spoiler [MY Swiss Starcraft Story] +I didn't have internet as a kid, and I only really got sufficent acces to play regularly online about 5 years ago. Starcraft, along with other countless games, were always around the house, courtesy of my older brother, and if I'd gotten to TL and the Korean scene sooner I am completely certain I'd have (tired to) become a progamer, and my prospects for college would be crap, so I'm glad I didn't do that. Around 5 years ago I found the lovely iCCup and checked out the Swiss national rankings. It appeared to me that most of the top national players were in clan [ZzoA], so after laddering, reading TL.net strats and overall improving to something other than D- level I joined the clan. Awesome fun, peeps like XanaX Lyan Ezo Azure oh such fun, but sadly I came back after a summer and it was over. My goal behind this was to reach national #1, but I only ever made it to #4 with Terran C- (with Toss I'm confident I'd have gotten #1, but I have self-respect). Now, 2 years after my peak, I have 4 months of holiday before Uni (UK), and though I also want to do more useful things like get a job, I really do want to get Starcraft going seriously in Switzerland. Geneva represnt! so go ahead and post in here so I know you exist, and LET'S FUCKING DO THIS!
EDIT: Please post in this order (whatever you feel comfortable sharing)
Game: Skill Level: Location: Activity Level:
So for me it's SC:BW and a bit of SC2 C- (and Diamond) Geneva Medium, soon to be High

o_o! Really?
My passport says I'm from Lucerne and I get spammed monthly magazines about Switzerland all the time.
I love Switzerland and its quiet, quaint nature. I've been around the country during a summer camp trip for 3 months and experienced a time I never could have experienced before. It wasn't the mountains I loved or the food that grew on me. It was those rolling hills and prairies that were truly marvelous. Where the wheat was high above the knee and around you were just higher hills.
Felt like a sanctuary, it was so nice.

Yea I know no SC2 builds and I've played like 20 matches in my life^^ (Won all except the last of my placement matches because it was my first SC2 TvZ :S) I have always apsired to be C-, and I finally made it one season it's true SEE, so I like to think of myself as C- -level, though now I'm surely D+.
So what sort of stuff should we do? I've been all excited by the idea of Nation Wars. How about all commerate to "OP teamliquid" on iCCup and/or chat channel "Swiss" on EU.

zürich here also from the skilled.ch community and longtime tl.net lurker
theres actually alot of cool stuff going on in switzerland!
|
Okok I really don't get how skilled.ch works, can some one please explain it to me?
BTW I just registered to make a thread basically advertising this one. Thing is, I don't speak German, so I had to Google Translate my OP
|
Basically skilled.ch is supposed to be the website for Swiss SC2, they have some tourneys from time to time and I believe a 'national team'. It's a nice site, biggest problem is it's only in German.
Here's my info. I definitely won't be home most of the summer and probably won't be in Switzerland next year, but I'm sure I'll find some time to play somehow.
Game: SC2 Skill Level: Master Location: Zürich Activity Level: Varies a lot. Probably going to be very active for 2 weeks or so coming next Wednesday.

Hi there, nice to see some swiss people here. Im actually not swiss but i live, was born and raised in Switzerland. I played BW (back between 99 and 03) but never competitive. When i heard SC2 would come out i was really pumped and i decided to play it more regularly than i did with BW. Unfortunately i dont have the time and talent to get beyond diamond level so i play just for fun, although i still try to get better with the limited amount of time i can put into the game. I follow the proscene regularly since about 6 years and would love to share my love with others. I often thought about organising a OSL/MSL/GSL finals party or something like that, unfortunately i only know 2 RL people who are interested in e-sports so that never came to life. Anyways if there would be a SC2 or BW LAN or a "finals viewing" here in Switzerland i'd really like to come and watch if not even play.
Game: playing SC2, following BW and SC2 progaming ID: CloonGeorgy #586 Race: Terran 4 Life Skill Level: high diamond in season 1 Location: Schönenwerd (near Olten) Activity level: on and off

I think that's a good idea - cool to build up a community here where there would most likely be some french seeing as to how a majority of the posters are in Suisse Romande - although ENG would be some sort of rule i imagine.

It is my duty to rituallistically bump this thread, so I do
Wow this is becomming much more of a success than I thought, there are even Polish knockoffs (: And sorry but you're right, Suisse Romande the Canton of Geneve, no the Republique de Geneve, is a separate entire Republic wich by extension is a member of the Swiss confederation.
/pride Officially (as in my mayor told me) I am a citizen of my rural village, thus by extension a citizen of the Republique de Geneve, and only by that virtue am I Swiss. So yeah, it probably should be French, except in 1602 we roflstomped an entire envasion from the Duc de Savioe (neighboring France) and we celebrate it each year with the Escalade (climbing --> they failed at climbing Geneva walls). TL;DR appreciate Suisse Romande, we give CH the UN :p
|
The Romandie is awesome and Geneva's much more interesting than Zurich. There, now a guy from Zurich said that, let's get back to SC2.

And yeah, you'll find the most of Swiss Starcraft stuff on Skilled.ch, not sure though how active it is right now, I left the site a long time ago. Also in SC2 there's a chatchannel called either Skilled or Skilled.ch. I checked Che-1 from time to time to see if anyone else had the same idea^^
|
I checked che-1 occasionally too Maybe we should autojoin "Switzerland" or "che-1" in the future

(If you don't mind telling) which shool, I probably know it q: We SO need a regional meetup for Proleague finals, and whatever equivalent SC2 tournament ends this summer ^^
There are lots of fun channels we can join to meet up (that's kinda the point), but I think the simplest and most meaningful one to all join would be channel "CH", as it's our country's national name (though it's more of an 'internally known thing' ), it's short, really damm easy to spell and reminds me of iCCup country tags when they finally implemented them.

If we were all indie-lovin' hipsters, and we were all secret fans of this extreme-obscure unknown band, we'd chill even if we lived on opposite sides of the country!
Speaking of which I was looking at google maps, and if you guys would be up to covering half the country I could cross my half and we could intersect somewhere around Basel or something (: All we'd need would be some more unwitting victims local Starcraft/TL fans (BW OR NO) and we could get a pretty sweet joint goin

BiTt.mAN, it wont be easy to combine both the communities of BW and SC2, I don't have any idea how to do it

We have to promote a BNET2.0 chat channel where we all meet... What is the current consensus, "skilled.ch"? oder "CH"? I'll add you all on bnet some time We should have a place where alle the swiss people meet. Skilled.ch is kind of meh, the forum there is quite bad, actually.
Also: I was thinking of doing some BARCRAFT (search on TL if you don't know what it is) in Zürich, but I was not sure if even a single dude would turn up. But after seeing this thread here on TL, my hope of doing this sometime is back.
@OP: Maybe format your post better, with some information about the swiss scene? Like:
Swiss battlenet channels: CH skilled.ch
Swiss SC2 websites: This is esport Skilled.ch ESL Switzerland Swiss E-Sports Federation
LANs: Butterlan Lock and Load
Swiss players which you can add for training purposes: pampelmus (sc2: Callcuchima.139 / bw: nope) altered (sc2: CloonGeorgy.586 / bw: ?) g0G0RandOm (sc2: JJu.148 / bw: ?) Ghazkul (sc2: Ghazkul.860 / bw: ?)
...
and so on We have to guide our fellow swiss citizens

Hey guys, there is a small unknown BW tournament final next week called the OSL, maybe you heard about it. So who is interested in some "Barcraft" like event to watch this event together?
I can organise a room in a bar (or something like that) with beamer and internet here in my area if there are atleast 10 people who would come. That would be in Olten (central in CH and very accessable with public transport). Otherwise id be willing to travel to Basel,Bern or Zürich if someone has a better idea where we could make this happen.

nolife1235 , you make me unhappy. Not by your terrible post, but by reminding me that for the first and only time I've EVER heard of a solid BROOD WAR Switzerland meetup (ya, I think I've heard of that little tourney called the OSL, sounds familiar...), I realize it's the day after I leave for University in your country.

Geneva
|
Hello fellow swiss players. I just arrived in Geneva 1 month ago. If anyone's interested to meet just msg me.
Im playing SC2 / Master level / Low activity (at least in the game) because of my connection atm.
We should organize something in a bar for some special event, would be so much fun !
|
Yo yo people! I'm from Geneva, ranked high diamond. My activity is really unconsistent though - sometimes 4 hours in one day, sometimes no SC II for a few days. A barcraft in Geneva would be awesome for some big events

I am a month to late. Did this barcraft actually take place? And what is OSL? Is it like GSL? Are there any streams? Who's playing? Maybe you should add more information if you actually want people to watch your little local tournament.

Hi guys!
I'm a platinum protoss player from Basel (studying computer science) and Widnau (SG), hence living in two 'Dreiländerecks'. My activity varies quite a lot. Cheers

It's Brood War, a Starcraft 1 add-on

Hey guys, I'm Swiss too. I currently reside in San Francisco though, but I am in Switzerland for the holidays, Bern more precisely. I suck at the game, but I love watching it and everything around it (like it more than actually playing it). I'm also part of Infinity Seven (we had a player in November Code A, lost to HerO) and I wouldn't mind seeing the Swiss SC2 scene grow.
|
Hi there. As with iS.flick, I watch the GSL most of the time and play some 2v2 and 3v3 games with my buddies, but am not ranked (anymore) in the ladder. Playing Protoss, living in Winterthur and working as a journalist @ Radio 24 in Zurich, where I'm still looking for ways to bring the SC scene to attention :-)

not much going on here anymore as soon my exams finish im gonna post my bronze status xD

I LOVE ESPORTS et je suis lausannois!!

Hey y'all!
First, to introduce myself: Game: SC2 Skill Level: Probably gold by now, haven't played in a while Location: Originally Lausanne but San Francisco atm Activity Level: Almost no SC2 anymore because of lack of gear and time in here
Also, I'm working for a public-private venture that tries to connect the dots between Switzerland and North America. As progaming is becoming really big in here, I would like to make an event on that topic. In order to do so, I need Swiss progamers (or retired progamers, like biGs), shoutcasters, eSports journalists, etc. If you have any contacts that you think might fit the description, don't hesitate to send their details to me, I'd be happy to look into them.
Let's make the Swiss SC2 scene known in California and the eSports scene known in Switzerland!
Thanks!

Are you guys still active? It would be cool to have a swiss community on HOTS! Maybe having some tournaments etc.. i'm really hype for this expansion BTW i'm gold terran from Vaud but live in Ticino FortunateS0n: 646
|
It would be cool to have a swiss community on HOTS!
The first thing to do in my opinion would be to create a group for swiss people or even better, join an existing swiss group as Barcraft Switzerland. I think there is only 4 people in this group for now :p
*edit* Actually, there is already a group named SC2Switzerland
|
But the question is, is it still active ?
I study at the University of Geneva and i have not met so far any sc2 players, while i am pretty sure there are players there.
|
If you wanna meet some SC2 players, your best bet is to go to the Barcrafts and event organised in Switzerland.
You can check the Barcraft Switzerland webpage to know when and where there is events. Usually it's in the german part of Switzerland. If you're looking for something around the Leman lake, you can check this TL post. They do not have a webpage I believe, but if you have facebook you can find them. The previous Barcraft was a success and I know they want to reiterate the experience for the next GSL code S finals. They also talked about organising small tournaments.
Hope this kind of answer your question.

Hello sir
The swiss starcraft scene is still living, as already mentioned please check out our local barcraft events in Zurich and Geneva/Lausanne at http://www.barcraft.ch/?lang=en-us
For the Battle.net part you should definitly join my Ingame Group "SC2Switzerland" we are currently at around 65+ players in the group and still growing. To keep yourself udated about swiss tournaments/esport news you could check out www.fightgenossen.ch the largest swiss-german community page.
At the moment there exist 2 active swiss starcraft 2 teams, www.myinsanity.eu and www.binary-evasion.ch. Both of them are playing in some clanleagues and all the swiss lanpartys. My team (myinsanity) is also expanding on the international market with players like Tarson and DaNa. Also we are pretty sucessful in the Teamleagues we participate in (IPTL Contender division, Sc2CL Masterdivision) today we are playing the Teamstorycup EU qualifier.
Greetings, mYi.ScooTer

Hi there
Skill Level: Gold (seem not be able to get into plat) Location: Used to live in Basel but will move to Aarau Activity Level: I play as much as I can
My name is Patric and I'm pretty addicted to Starcraft . I play Terran on EU and America and might have met a few of you at the Barcraft events in Zürich.
At the moment it seems like I have hit a plateau. I'm top 10 gold for now about 2 months and seem not able to break through ;(. I pretty much try to just practise standard play. I think it's about improving at the game and not about winning a lot of games! I'm looking forward to meeting as much as possible of you swiss guys ingame . Just contact me I'm tonight#498 on EU . Maybe there is a diamond or master terran around that could help out ?
Hope to see you soon Patric aka tonight

I'm getting tired of the pollution and crappy Internet in China. It's time for me to enjoy the Alps fresh air. I grew up in Grenoble and I really miss the mountains. Switzerland is also a better place to raise a child. I'm not a father yet, but my wife and I have some plans

Nan mais mec (Endy[!]), on a vraiment besion de s'rencontrer. Cool! Lol Blubb I was randomly stalking your recent activity, saw this thread in your post list, and was like "hey wait, wasn't that my OP?" lol.
So I'm out for the summer, but this winter, maybe something in Geneva area? Meet up, chat, wear yo progamer shit with pride. Keep reppin' guys!

Congrats man (: Switzerland is an amazing country, this is coming from someone who is a Swiss citizen, but not born within. I always pride myself on being a Swiss!
