I think we need a guideline for the LR threads. One that shows up immediately when someone makes a new account.

Looking at the ban list...... IPL has produced near 200+ bans in the course of what, 4 days? That's ridiculous.... It's very hard for newcomers to post on TL.... and I know we have all sorts of threads dedicated to helping them.

But it's the LR threads that kill em :/
With that being said, do we have a LR guideline thread?

I don't really think TL needs a dedicated LR guideline thread. The people that get banned in the LR threads are doing crap that they know not to do if they've read the Ten Commandments thread.

The amount of nonsense that goes on in those threads really is painful, though. I've read a couple of people suggest that TL start drafting LR-thread banlings, and I kind of like the idea. I don't think I've ever read a LR thread where there weren't at least a few normal human beings posting, and if they could just play whack-a-mole in the LR threads it would free up the other mods to do less horrible things.

Eh...... Idk about that....
What happens if that person or persons get the power to ban, and misuse it, or judges that a person should be banned incorrectly?

I like the idea, I just don't know about it.... it could lead to a disaster :/

I'd guess if it got implemented in the state people are thinking, they'd only be able to hit people that got reported, only in LR threads, and only for x duration. Even if they all got sent for review, it would be less work for the full time mod staff.

I think a LR guide, while maybe not imperative, could be damn well useful, that's all I'm saying

LR Guide:
1.) Dont be a dick
2.) Dont caster bash
3.) Dont player bash
4.) Dont whine about lag/quality of the stream, especially if its free
5.) Dont whine about balance
6.) Dont insult other posters
7.) Avoid image macros
8.) If its been posted 10+ times in the thread already, its probably not a good idea to post it again
9.) Don't be a dick

Yeah, I don't think a guide is really necessary, its usually in a giant white box at the top of the thread by the time it hits page 100 or so anyway. I feel like people should just know better >.<

There is a guide line thread in the BW tournament section here -

http://www.teamliquid.net/forum/viewmessage.php?topic_id=103494

I didn't read the LR thread on the fourth day but looking at the ban list alone makes me pretty sad when you compare it to the BW LRs.

I like your 9 things you just listed.

I would probably take those 9 things, expand each one and make a guide.

Like I said before, a guide's not necessary but it doesn't hurt to have one either.

Anyways..... I would make the guide myself but unfotunately, being a computer illiterate, I have no idea how to make it all nice and organized like other guides.... and therefore it would just be a cluster of information unappealing to the audience :[

I think the reasoning behind them is expanded on pretty well in the 10 Commandments. For all of those.

If people won't take the site rules to heart, they won't take thread rules either.

Anyone that gets banned should be forced to read the guide and than pass a test so they can get their account unbanned after the ban time expires:D

I've always thought of live report threads as any kind of party where people show up to watch a sporting event. Your neighborhood superbowl party for example. Or the world cup final.

You're there to be excited and cheer on your favorite players and teams, be happy if they win, and be sad if they don't. But if you went to a super bowl party and just spent the entire time criticizing the commentary, criticizing the coaching decisions, criticizing the dip, whining about calls that didn't go your way, then nobody is going to like you. Because you're being a dick and you're making it hard for other people to enjoy the game.

So treat a LR thread like you would an actual gathering of people. Don't be annoying. You won't get banned for posting a one liner in all caps if something awesome happens, but you will get banned for being an annoying prick.

The most consistently annoying thing for me about LR threads (this goes for everything from the average GSL Code S day to one-day extravaganzas) is that people apparently all have the idea that they are much more knowledgable and more skilled than the players themselves. They also tend to believe they have monopoly on the entirety of the SC2 scene, and have a unique and exceptional ability to look into players' minds and their decisions.

Basically, every one of these people are pro weight lifters that know more about SC2 and the scene (and eSports in general!) than anybody ever in the history of forever will ever know.

I'm glad i've kind of stopped posting a lot in LR's, even if the average GSL LR is much better than one-day events and the like, they're painful all the same

It was in the draft version based on Moonbear's "How to LR" guide, but 1. It didn't really fit because it put more emphasis on the sub-forum than others (which the SC2 Strategy section already does). and 2. The rules in LR are the same as the general rules on TL.

How long should I keep my hopes up for the day when Idra will become a mod? Will it happen within days or possibly a few weeks?
