It was an awesome event for season 3, I hope it`s able to go through again... I know you guys would the problem is I lost 800$ last time and I really can't afford that again. I'm doing my best to still get this to work just don't count on it.
It's things like this that are my motivation to find a full time job. I hate not being able to donate like a hundred this time around. I really hope the sponsors come through, And if not, and you do decide to go through with it anyway, Ill give you all that my group (3+) can scrounge up in way of donations.
The last event was awesome, and us Starcraft players and fans much appreciate both your effort and your sacrifice.

If money is the problem and you can't secure adequate sponsorship, I can see a lot of easy solutions:
1. Charging cover. 2. No cover but having a suggested donation at the door. 3. Getting TL (the organization, not the community) involved financially. 4. Finding a couple people privately willing to chop up the debt at the end of the day.

Unfortunately you were right from the beginning in that it's not really possible to do this through donation, I've ran both the evens like that and it hasn't really worked. I also think charging money isn't going to end well. Anyway I'm going to keep trying for a sponsor and will definitely ask nazgul. As for chopping up the debt I'm up for that, if sponsorship fails I'll cover 300$ if others want to chip in.
I do want to make it clear though that sponsorship is nowhere near dead I'm still looking into it and I personally think that it will pan out.

just wondering how much the total cost is of running this event?

It's about 1200$ give or take

Count me in for 1-200 if it comes to that! No problem whatsoever

I will also chip in ~100 as well to keep something awesome like this going.
|
I would actually chip in $50-100 if it is needed to happen

do the showmatches without prizes

I have no problem donating $100 to this event. Well worth it.

Im curious why you dont like to charge cover?

If this ends up happening, I will personally chip in 50 bucks to help the North American eSports scene. I can give it to you, chromate, or anyone else involved on the night of the 29th.

hey! new on the forums, saw this topic and had to post. does anyone else think it would be a wicked idea to record the audio at the actual venue? then we could match it up with a VOD, and it could be an exciting thing to show off the event? and for people who wanna watch the VODs and remember the event?
i'm an audio engineering student and i love esports. i could probably figure out how to record the venue and get an audio track of the sound of the audience.
anyone else interested in that?
at any rate, most definitely gonna come. also i can donate large at the door if it happens / before if that will help it happen. this is going to be great!!

I'd donate but it would have to be in person. Therefore the event would actually need to be put on for me to pitch in :S In any case, to the guy above me, recording the sound would be awesome, we were doing cheers for MC at the previous event, and overall the crowd was really active.

This guy deserves to make money off this one. He's lost so much over the last two events, we kinda owe him.

chro, think we'll all understand if you take a season off and then bring it back for gsl5. no point losing money

He got GOM's permission before to setup the event I think. He just need to ask them now if he can charge etc. Obviously you can just go about the way of not asking them, and they probably won't do anything about it, but he is then taking a personal risk.

Ah, that makes sense. Then we won't call it a cover charge. How's "mandatory donations"?
