Don't post in this thread to say "gay gamers are like everyone else, why do they have a special thread?" It is something that has been posted numerous times, and this isn't the place for that discussion.

For regular posters, don't quote the trolls.

Reading just a few pages I'm quite surprised that there's not as much hate as I expected.

Then again, it's sad that I expected there to be hate in the first place.

Good luck in whatever you guys are doing! Remember not everyone hates you.

men and women are pretty different, and here comes the question: is it in gay pairs often a "man" and a "woman" part ? or can you play starcraft/drink beer/bowl together?

P.S.
the only way you partner accepts Starcraft as hobby is you're being gay.

Some fascinating discussions going on. I would warn some of my fellow gayers not to bash people who actually make reasoned arguments, even if we think/know they're fundamentally flawed at some level. I don't think we need to be so defensive.

2) Gay people are a unique minority in that they are born somewhat randomly (some trends are being looked at) across all cultures all over the world. Every generation has to re-form the communities.

The second point is also part of the reason there is so much confusion in how to express anything related to sexuality since a level of isolation around this issue is normal in early years.

I think this is an amazing observation that's been glossed over, and one I'd never considered. Ethnic and religious minorities basically go down family to family, community to community. Gays don't have this luck, up to a point we're very much alone (thank you internet <3 for helping to ameliorate this).

People self identify and practice homosexuality even in countries where the punishment for it is severe (death and so on) and harassment/denial of rights is common (even in western countries) so there must be a motivation that overwhelms the TREMENDOUS adversity.

This is worth emphasising as an obvious but good point against the "herp derp it's a choice" point of view. Generally most kids would be nuts to 'choose' to be different and part of a minority that isn't 100% accepted. I'm sure most gay kids went through a phase at the beginning of just wishing they were straight... some people never get over that.

And even if that were how it works, If homosexuality is truly the "population control mechanism", why homosexuality? Why not increased impotency? Less sperm production? Fewer fertile periods? Or even higher tendencies for asexuality? Homosexuality is an unreliable method of population control because homosexual /can/ reproduce, and i'm sure many would /want/ to (and given modern medical science, many do in some manner). To claim homosexuality is this grand scheme by the all-too-mysterious "mother nature" means one of too things: Mother Nature didn't think things through, or said claim is wrong.

This. People have an understandable but logically unsound view that causally links correlating factors. Just because A relates to B, doesn't mean A is because of B or vice versa.

A question for the gay folks who do not live somewhere where gay marriage is allowed:

If it were to be allowed, but only for members of the opposite sex (ie you're a gay man and it's only allowed for woman-woman), would you consider that a worse form of discrimination than it is now, or would you primarily see it as good because progress is being made?

Also, would that change if it were your sex being given the privileges?

Thats an interesting question. The answer would, of course, vary from person to person and would be more a matter of opinion.

Personally, I feel it would be a step in the right direction. If only woman were allowed to get married to each other but men were not, it would mean that same sex marriage is not actually the problem that the constitution has, it would be something else related to men specifically.

That in itself is a big step - a step that many countries have not yet been able to take now, in the year 2011. I think that if same sex marriage for woman was legal it would be only a matter of time before same sex marriage for men was allowed - it would just take some ironing out of the issues that they had previously with two men getting married.

Contrary to what television wants everyone to believe, no not really. There are of course very feminine gays who will gladly act like a female in the relationship but most gay guys I know(even "bottoms") are just as manly as straight guys. I used to play football with my ex etc.

Your questions are a bit confusing tbh.

But no to both questions anyway.

My BF is a death metal vocalist, so uh not really fitting the stereotype there. I'm the quintessential nerd/geek. I like American football, he likes hockey. I humor him by watching detective shows, he humors me by watching sci fi. It's not all that different from a straight relationship, there's just a lack of predefined gender roles.

This has nothing to do with sexuality, its not because someone is feminine that hes automatically gonna be unable to enjoy the "manly" things you do

its on a person by person basis, there are girls that enjoy all the things you think unable to enjoy with your wife.

This argument /seems/ to base itself on a fallacious, seemingly scientific basis. This is how i interpret what you are saying: Someone is born with faulty genes - no eyes, unattractive, gets sick easily. As such this person is an "undesirable mate" and as such, in an animalistic nature, this person would be unlikely to pass on these genetic characteristics. Similarly, a person is born with the "faulty" gene of being attracted to one's own sex - although all other characteristics such as eyesight, intelligence, facial features are "ideal" - shares the same situation with the person in the previous example.

In which case i don't think you can say that a person with a faulty gene of being attracted to one's own sex is "weeded out" by mother nature by making him/her... undesirable to the other sex, because this may not be the case. The reason said person is not mating is implicit without this characteristic itself, not because this person has an unfavorable characteristic and is being punished by "the laws of nature". This is circular logic, and the laws of natural selection and mating do not apply here.

I am not saying a homosexual person is undesirable. There are plenty of fine ass women that are lesbians, and I'm certain there are handsome men that women would be fully attracted to, even tho they are gay. I can appreciate a woman's curve regardless of her sexual orientation.

I am saying that if a person is strictly gay, meaning they never reproduce, then the "gay" gene cannot be passed on. Homosexuality, because of what it implies, tries to eliminate itself. I would say that is natural selection.

What I am saying is that this is /not/ natural selection, because that's simply not how natural selection works, it is something else entirely. Sure, it may result in the same unfortunate consequences as natural selection, but it is not natural selection. This is very much like saying death by murder and death by suicide are the same thing - the result may be very similar, but there are essentially different causes :s.

Natural selection implies undesirability to others, hence preventing reproduction. If you are not saying that a homosexual person is undesirable, then clearly it cannot be natural selection. Nature is not selecting anything.

I think it's important to remember that gender and sexuality are 2 very different, seemingly related but actually unrelated things ^_^

I'm so happy to see a LBGT positive thread here on TL :D

I'd love to find some guys in my area who play Starcraft. If you're in Boston (or D.C., since I'll live there in a few months), shoot me a PM and we can play some matches/go out for a beer.

The current scientific consensus is genes + environment:

I don't mind this type of Thread. But Like seriously, I'm not Gay.

I'm not going to be mean cause you claim to be "Gay"
But because I think the OP is just silly. Was the Comment about Dick in your Mouth... Needed?

Really this Thread is Really Not well Opened up with, Too much negative Emotion.
All I know is, Gay men are Way too Foward with their sexuality, not that it bothers me, cause straight guys can equally be that way. Maybe I'm just part of that reserved group of Males who find sexuality is more of an affection thing. How much you care for someone, and like to keep that for someone special and not to throw around.

I actually like the Aspect of this conversation about Why people are gay. As a Self aware human being, I thought about whether or not I was potentially Gay. (being good looking and reserved with macho friends meant I was gay for some reason )

Because let's be honest, men are also attractive. But When I say attractive I mean, well sculpted, features are desirable. Bottom Line it doens't come down to gential preference. More of that Heart Melting feeling.

If you stand infront of a really Hot girl, she walks up to you and asks you a question. If you're heart starts to pound louder, and you instantly "Feel" something emotionally. You're 100% not gay.

For me, That was the Key factor to determine if I had Bi-sexuality within. I can talk to any guy out there, and I know in me I won't feel anything like I do with a Lady. (tested)

I think being attracted to men, is just a combination of genetic factors. And I think it started when humans had the potential to support large communites. Because Men naturally grouped together for survival needs. Too me it's only natural that men developed affection for one another equally to having affection for women.

Being "gay" is not something wrong, or genetical mistake. But simply an amplification of male to male admiration and affection as Men also need other men to survive. Our Human emotions are very raw and we even create emotions through rationalization. Too me, this falls under that category of psychological human changes.

Personally. I'm just bored, and Gay people should find each other I guess.
Time for a Bad Joke.

I wonder how many Fans a Gay pro SC2 Player would have.

tdynasty; capitalization - learn it! x_x

Props to you guys being openly gay in places where its not commonly accepted.

Personally I never understood the big deal about being gay - but could be because I am not and havent had to go through whatever hardship it has put you fellas through. For me I am indifferent to other peoples sexual orientation as long as it doesn't hurt or involve someone unwilling to participate or incapable of understanding what it means (meant for those people equalizing stuff like pedophiles to gays..which just makes no sense).

Anyway, hopefully one day people will just stop hating other people based on differences and we can all go about our lives the way we want it.

And for the above poster who said "I wonder how many fans a gay pro sc2 player would have" why would sexual orientation possibly make a difference? And for all you know some of your favorite pros may just be gay.

Anyhoo, I'm off. Peace.
