Don't post in this thread to say "gay gamers are like everyone else, why do they have a special thread?" It is something that has been posted numerous times, and this isn't the place for that discussion.

For regular posters, don't quote the trolls.

Odd thing about the acceptance of homosexuality in general.

It seems like in primitive societies, such as the Native Americans, the very Ancient Chinese, Feudal Japan, the Greeks, or the Zulus, they were more or less accepting of homosexuality. I do not think going around the town and saying that you are gay is a good idea but having sex with another man is not taboo.

Then as civilization seems to have advanced, there was a fear of being gay once again seen in Greece, Japan, and China. And now, as society is getting incredibly liberal, we are at the stage of not only accepting gay sex, but going so far to allow marriage and protection laws for gays.

And fun fact, China was the first place in the world to have gay marriage, but between women.

I take krbz as saying there is a 'gay gene' floating around in every gay person that can't be passed on because 'we' can not reproduce. But reproduction happens with a penis and a vagina. Not necessarily a straight man/straight woman/whatever combo you can make. So im saying that even in a completely gay society, as long as a male and female are present and are actively interested in procreation, regardless of there desires, it will happen.

I haven't delved too much into the reasoning for homosexuality or it's relation to nature and the events that take place in it, but I would say it's something along the lines of a built-in population control, if that makes any sense.

What you're saying is /understandable/, but i can't say it "makes sense". It's hard to believe that in a species' long history of change and growth, there would be some amazing phantom mechanism "implanted by nature" to curb populations - I'm not an expert, but i dont think (unfounded claim based on opinion) that that's how evolution and nature in general works.

And even if that were how it works, If homosexuality is truly the "population control mechanism", why homosexuality? Why not increased impotency? Less sperm production? Fewer fertile periods? Or even higher tendencies for asexuality? Homosexuality is an unreliable method of population control because homosexual /can/ reproduce, and i'm sure many would /want/ to (and given modern medical science, many do in some manner). To claim homosexuality is this grand scheme by the all-too-mysterious "mother nature" means one of too things: Mother Nature didn't think things through, or said claim is wrong.

Just because homosexuality is "genetic" doesn't mean it has to have anything to do with matters pertaining to species survival, evolution, darwinism and the like.

Random Thought. I may be trying to stream some this summer (assuming access to a webcam, hopefully anyways, would be more entertaining if you guys could see me in all of my hideously sexy glory. <3) and may end up doing some basic things, playing around with a bunch of people who might watch, and hopefully start towards getting up to masters level play, discussing strategy and what not.

Main reason I say this here, I'd love support of the LGBTQ community in Starcraft, and I think it'd be cool to have our own little kind of stream. ^.^

Yes, I'm terrible, I'm currently a gold working his way up to platinum zerg (I should be platinum or MAYBE low diamond but i spend over half my games doing fun troll-games like expanding to my opponents natural and doing a spine crawler rush. <3)

But i figured what's the harm in getting your guys opinions of this? I'd need some mods so the chat wouldn't get out of hand and all that, and while the channel wouldn't be ABOUT gay starcraft players, I would quite honestly advertise it.

(In a way, I kinda wish I could go pro. possibility of that happening? about .000000001%. but first male pro-gamer with a boyfriend? <3 Cool title. :3 )

Yeah... if there's any kind of interest and backing I'll do what I can. We'll set up skype calls and all that. ^^
The fox is back.

This argument /seems/ to base itself on a fallacious, seemingly scientific basis. This is how i interpret what you are saying: Someone is born with faulty genes - no eyes, unattractive, gets sick easily. As such this person is an "undesirable mate" and as such, in an animalistic nature, this person would be unlikely to pass on these genetic characteristics. Similarly, a person is born with the "faulty" gene of being attracted to one's own sex - although all other characteristics such as eyesight, intelligence, facial features are "ideal" - shares the same situation with the person in the previous example.

In which case i don't think you can say that a person with a faulty gene of being attracted to one's own sex is "weeded out" by mother nature by making him/her... undesirable to the other sex, because this may not be the case. The reason said person is not mating is implicit without this characteristic itself, not because this person has an unfavorable characteristic and is being punished by "the laws of nature". This is circular logic, and the laws of natural selection and mating do not apply here.

I am not saying a homosexual person is undesirable. There are plenty of fine ass women that are lesbians, and I'm certain there are handsome men that women would be fully attracted to, even tho they are gay. I can appreciate a woman's curve regardless of her sexual orientation.

I am saying that if a person is strictly gay, meaning they never reproduce, then the "gay" gene cannot be passed on. Homosexuality, because of what it implies, tries to eliminate itself. I would say that is natural selection.

I'd like to say that i never made the distinction between whether or not homosexuality is a choice or if people are born that way. You are taking things out of context.

You need to read everything that i am saying before making broad generalizations. I made it very clear and I suggest you do a little more reading before trying to add to this conversation.

I have.
I wasn't accusing you of drawing the line in the sand between choice or not. I was responding to your point about natural selection, and saying that instead of it trying to weed us out, it puts us here to slow down growing numbers. Thats the thought wave I was on.

And before that, I was trying to point out that just because a guy is gay or a woman a lesbian, doesn't mean their genes can't be passed on. They may need a little more foreplay (or a turkey baster), but it can still happen. It all depends on wether the person wants to pass them on or not.

I'm 'strictly gay', but I plan on having kids of my seed when i'm older.

If i'm way off where you were going, i apologize. Not trying to stir the pot.

How do you plan on having children? That and I would love to know what you plan on teaching them about sexual preferences and the like?

As far as population control, you are definitely not serving your purpose if that is how you feel. If the "gay" gene is implemented in overpopulation situations, why would you then choose to have children? That seems a little contradictory, to your theory.

Ohh, yes. My theory.. haha.

Well, if we are still on the 'gay gene', thats something that can't be helped. Its the 'gay gene'. All it does it make you gay. It merely places the basis of attraction. My desire to have children comes from me having a more nurturing side than most men, hell even most gay men, and was raised incredibly well by two loving parents, in a most times healthy environment (few years after them finding out i was gay were rough, but thats it).. I have a desire to implement what I was taught and emulate the love I was given onto my own kids. I don't know too many other gay people here where I live who want kids, so i think i may be a bit on the rarer side. :/

I have no idea what exactly i'd tell them about sexual preferences. I think those things kind of come to you as your parenting.. kinda based on the kid too.. how old they are, etc. I definitely know it won't be kept a tight little secret or be some weird elephant in the room. Things get discussed when they need to be.

Just realized its almost 5 am.
I hope this is still coherent.

I just don't get how this thread is still live on TL. There should be no room for this kind of stuff on a gaming community forum.

I do not want my child reading about homos and what they do, sickens me.

What kind of "stuff" are you referring to exactly? How is this any worse than the Kelly FHM thread?

Lol, I just don't get how there are still complaining about this thread on TL.

To be honest, I don't want my kids to be spending time on the internet period.

Hi Hope you don't mind someone else diving in here.

It's important to remember a couple of things:

1. While homosexuality has been shown to have a strong genetic component (eg, identical twins are much more likely to share the same sexual orientation than non-identical twins) it's over-simplistic to think in terms of an on-off 'gay gene' (as demonstrated by the identical twins who do not share the same sexual orientation). Your height, for instance, is partly genetic and partly the product of nutrition; I'm not saying you can 'eat yourself straight' of course, I'm just saying there are usually several contributing factors (although I personally happen to know someone - now happily married with children - who earlier in life managed to drink himself gay for an evening). And just as 'tallness' is not an on-off genetic trait, so there will almost certainly be a sliding scale of genetic homosexual tendencies.

2. Genes rarely have only one function or effect on an organism, and can persist and thrive in a population if the benefits of one effect outweigh the penalties of another. As an extreme example, consider the sickle-cell gene: if you have two copies of the gene you will suffer sickle-cell anaemia and a greatly reduced chance of successfully reproducing. But a single copy of the gene confers resistance to malaria. So while sickle-cell is very rare in most countries, in malarial Africa it's much more common.

Armed with this knowledge, we can understand how the genetic disposition towards homosexuality can survive in a population despite the fact that a strong dose of it inhibits reproduction. We might speculate that homosexuality is an extreme expression of the kind of fraternal attraction that makes co-operation and even fighting for one's fellow man possible. Or that a moderate dose of 'gay genes' are in some way responsible for broadening a man's emotional range and ability to empathise, making him a more attractive mate. Only speculation, of course, but the point is there are ways in which it can be seen to work.
The existence of a food chain is inescapable if we evolved unsupervised, and inexcusable otherwise.
