In your experience, is there any truth to this? If so, why? I don't understand it, since from my point of view it would seem that both groups would face the same amount of ostricization just for not being hetero... Obviously, my sample size is small so I'm just curious.

Don't post in this thread to say "gay gamers are like everyone else, why do they have a special thread?" It is something that has been posted numerous times, and this isn't the place for that discussion. For regular posters, don't quote the trolls.

Since a lot of gay guys transition from thinking they are straight to thinking they are bisexual to thinking they are gay, a lot of gay guys think that bisexuality doesn't really exist and that bisexuals aren't being honest with themselves about their sexuality.

Of course bisexuality exists, that's plain crazy.

If you actually read the thread, you see that it's a communique between one or more gay people and those who have questions around gays and their subculture. Of course if this thread gets people to come out of the closet, and they're happy about that in the long run, then that's a great achievement. On that note, gay people, 'coming out of the closet' is that a derogatory saying and do you prefer 'coming out' or something else? Of course it's intention what counts but now that I say that I'm curious how the perception is and if there's any bad feelings around such things. (Also, as a heterosexual, I have the strongest dislike against (straight or any other) romances forced into every movie plot. Yuck. But I guess it's for different reasons. I would actually applaud gay relationships going first base or further in a movie, at least implied, just to break the mold. And yes I am gonna keep the parenthesis around this paragraph.)

I'm really bored at the moment so I've decided to through this thread and answer all of the questions to the best of my ability. Some heterosexuals speak with lisps, but obviously there's far more gay people who have speech deficiencies. I don't know why and I don't know if there's any conclusive evidence to support why. Same goes for feminine mannerisms. I believe that childhood upbringing could have influence on *some* people. There's probably many reasons for why this could be that we aren't yet aware of. For some gay people speaking with a lisp and projecting feminine mannerisms is natural but others adopt these characteristics to fit in. Being gay can be difficult and challenging at times and I understand the desire to fit in, but this also further perpetuates gay stereotypes.

As a gay guy I generally feel uncomfortable around really flamboyant gay guys especially when they're hitting on me. I find it irritating and unattractive. I also have little in common with people as such beyond the fact that we both like guys.

I have a gay friend who goes to the high school I just graduated from, and he told me that there was no exact moment. He just knew he felt different, and it wasn't until around sophomore year that he realized he was gay. There wasn't any defining moment for me. Originally I felt a strong attraction toward women. Over time that interest shifted and I paid less attention to women. (I sometimes wonder if it had to do with the fact that there were few hot girls at the schools I attended.) Either way I came to the conclusion that I was probably gay and went with it. I don't like labels though and if the opportunity to get with a hot chick presented itself I wouldn't say no. It's just not my preference and that doesn't make me bisexual.

Yesterday I was playing transformice (fuck yeah) and I called out a map for being gay (new custom maps feature brings out the worst in mice). I followed up stating that I don't mean to offend homosexuals. I am not conscious enough to keep me from using gay as an insult, just yet, but I'm getting there ![]() The gaming world is full of such things, and I also post this in light of the recent discussion of using the word 'rape' in description of matches and other gamer slang. So being a gaming gay guy, you must see this quite a lot. The words "gay" and "faggot" have lost meaning to me as an insult in most situations. Sometimes I call my straight friends gay after they've done something stupid. We get a laugh out of it and move on - no hard feelings.

Sorry to hijack this quote but I do this schooling has a lot of influence on sexuality. I attended an all boys Grammar school (in the UK obviously) and I think this formed much of my attraction to men. Probably also why I enjoyed rugby so much despite being 9 and a half stone. By the way, if anyone wants to chat with me on EU Battlenet my ID is Cranberries.749. ^.^

I think this thread is nice, I also guess it would be nice...if I could touch your body. Because I know that not just everybody has got a body like you. On the same note, I'd have to think twice before I gave my heart away...and before you ask, yes I do know all of those games you play - because I play them too. It's good to see you back, it's been a long time and I really needed some time off from that emotion, was time to pick my heart up off the floor - when that love comes down without devotion, they say it takes a strong man...baby - but I'm showing you the door. But also welcoming you back in! Guess I've just gotta have faith. Welcome back! I just left one of the gayest places on earth (Sydney), so as for me there is not a homophobic bone in my body having had lots of gay friends. I'm genuinely surprised by people who are still disgusted/hateful against gay people...but just as with racism I'm sure it will always exist.

I have a couple of questions about the gay community that have been bothering me. I've heard some pretty critical opinions from gay and bi friends about the gay community, that it tends to be fairly superficial. Also I've heard that there is also a certain amount of racism within the gay community, and that for gay blacks and especially gay Asians, life can be particularly difficult. It doesn't help them that black and Asian communities also tend to be less accepting of homosexuality. I don't really know myself, this is just what I've heard from a couple of friends of mine, so it could be complete bullshit. What are your thoughts on race relations in the gay community? And do you think that the gay community is a bit shallow? Promiscuous I would understand, based on the fact that the main reason straight guys aren't equally promiscuous is that women aren't. But shallow is a bit different.
