Religion is easy for me. I'm a practicing Presbyterian. The no gay rule in the old testament is sitting right next to the "no pork" and "if your brother gets leprosy throw him out of the camp" rules. People still like to quote the no gay part but for some reason whenever the McRib rolls around I can't help but wonder if they actually take all those rules seriously.
In the new testament the only person who said "no gay" was Paul. He also said that in a perfect world no one would ever need to have sex or get married. He was incredibly wise, but he wasn't perfect so I'm ok saying Paul was wrong on the gay thing. Especially since he's the only one who mentioned it.
Institutional religion has the nasty habit of being very hostile towards people who don't think exactly like them, so I've sorta stayed on the fringe of it. But Christianity itself preaches love, virtue, and understanding.

Personally I'm an agnostic athiest, but that's not really anything to do with being gay and the general hate nearly all religions have for me because of it, rather it's due to me being sceptical of religious claims and having not really been convinced of any reason to believe in a god. The more I study the natural world, the stronger I feel like that.
On the other hand, I'm not exactly endeared to organised religion due to the general nasty nature they tend to have towards gay people and the overall culture of suppressing free thought. Obviously I'm generalising, but that's how most religions I've studied act. The exceptions I have nothing against, I just don't personally believe.

A couple pages back I sorta explained this, but to reiterate, I'm feeling like being raised mormon, I kind of feel as though my decision making process is slightly reduced in capacity because I was simply told "this is what you believe because we're telling you it's what to believe." I've tried super hard to overcome that deficit, but I don't think I'll ever be involved in organized religion ever again. That's after 9 years of being OK being an atheist/agnostic (still haven't decided on that one yet).
That's it, I don't really want this to turn into a religion thread or the banlings will close this wonderful resource that has been assembled on this forum.

Wow, I am glad to see someone who has assimilated belief with being gay, I know a lot of people who have tried but ultimately can't.
I personally am a secular humanist, which I define with an Einstein quote: "My religion is simple, my religion is kindness". Basically, all the love, kindness, understanding and urge to help the human condition, none of the Jesus, Hail Mary, Yahweh and FSM. I used to call myself an Atheist (which is technically still what I am) but I found that people who ask what your religion is are more getting a feel for your moral code. Since Atheism doesn't, by definition, have a moral code, creed, belief system of any kind, I have to give an answer to their real question. Basically, Atheism is a religion like bald is a hair colour.
I knew a gay guy, really cute, shared a tent with him once ( >.> <.<) he was/is catholic. He just didn't think about it, I am pretty sure he was in denial about his gayness (with his hands down my pants I might add).
People are entitled to any viewpoint they want. They can hate homosexuality, they can think it the worst sin, they can think/feel/believe anything at all they want. But they don't stop there. They deny marriage rights, they deny family visitation rights, they deny this long laundry list of rights that descend us to second class citizens in the eyes of the law. They don't have the right to do that. I don't know why they feel the need to be that way. IMO, it is a case of "don't like gay marriages, don't have one. Don't like your rights being taken away? DONT TAKE AWAY MINE BITCH". I have talked to religious people who support bans on gay marriage, and they can't defend their position legally, logically or morally. They are guided by hate, fear and, the creator of fear, misunderstanding.

There's no such thing. Agnostic = atheist. Both descriptions mean that you do not believe in a god.
If by some miracle God appeared before us in all His Splendour and Glory, atheists aren't gonna go "well, there is still no god", which is really the only distinction agnostic/atheist tries to draw.
