The bar should just rest on your shoulders and your hands are just to balance the bar. I'm not sure how fast your shoulders will get used to the weight, it should be like anything else, just give it time. When cleaning the bar I usually grasp the whole bar or let the bar rest on my fingertips. You can just catch the bar with 2 fingers like the front squat, which is perfectly fine i think. You can always reposition your hands afterwards. Most people have to gain the flexibility to catch the bar with elbows up. A lot of the bigger guys catch the bar with their elbows pointing downward a little bit which is fine too. The main thing is to catch the bar on your shoulders.
some examples of the catch. Watch their positioning

Examples of high level weightlifters with not so great flexibility. First guy catches the bar on fingertips and elbows pointing downward. Second guy grasps the bar fully with elbows pointing downward too.
@Dicember12345 Are you trying to imply front squatting is dangerous? Why don't you try it before saying it is bad.
i seriously thought the guy's elbow from the 2nd vid was gonna pop O_O form was pretty odd yes? btw, is there any way to improve flexibility? i can't get the bar to sit on my shoulders T_T

There are some wrist flexibility exercises. I dont really know them though. The lifter, Su Dajin, has a wierd catch but he is so strong its unbelievable. I think he would be the most dominant lifter in the 77kg weight class if he fixes his technique issues. His teammate Lu Xiaojun has amazing form which I really like watching. Textbook form :D
Hi teamliquid! This thread seems to be mostly about strength training but does anyone know anything about running? I'm going to start running to work (well actually I'll take my bike to work at 5 am and then run before work in the park next to it) everyday.
Don't know exactly how long my run will be but probably about 4 km or so. I can run it fine already so I know the distance is not a problem in itself, but is there any risk of injury from doing it to often? I'll be doing this probably once a day for two weeks and then when I switch work sites I'll start running both ways instead so roughly double the distance.
My brother runs about 12 km every other or every day (or used to at least, don't know if he's changed his routine) but he's an Ethiopian marathon runner (were not biological brothers) so I don't think I should follow in his footsteps. :/
tl;dr: How far can you run every day without risking injury?
what sais here is that myostatin variations in muscle is the primary differences between stamina or strength individuals and this cant be changed drastically through training.
in fact i had a conversation few months back about how stamina train is totally altered in soccer lately , cause all these endless running proved to be worthless.
obviously ethiopians are more suit to run than swedish .

I don't think there's a real concrete answer to this, you should be fine running 4 km/day. People here play 3-4 hours worth of basketball every day at the park and I think that's way more strenuous than just running.
But obviously if your body is killing you in a way that doesn't feel good, go see a doctor.

To that end, I've been doing P90X Ab-ripper. 2 weeks after I started, I find I'm basically able to keep up with the guys in the vid without breaking a sweat or having any soreness in the abs (maybe that's why you shouldn't do it everyday T_T). Given I don't have access to a lot of equipment here in Shanghai, what are some good ways I can intensify an ab workout with minimum extra effort/time and maximum gain sexiness-wise? Should I go for more reps first or more resistance? And if resistance, what are some ways I can go about adding more resistance?
It's said before in this thread, abs are made in the kitchen, so concentrate on your diet.
I don't like ab workouts for looks, you'll never find someone who has average body fat and a 6-pack. If you're lean in one area, you have to be lean everywhere else.
sfydjklm what are you looking for exactly? strength in what way? and what do you mean by neck? do you mean the actual neck? because that's a weird thing to train if you like aren't into mma or wrestling or something. at least in my opinion
love1another i have trouble believing u can keep up with them in the ab ripper video in only 2 weeks and actually have good form. if you could, you were already in great shape before you started.

im talking fat really not strength. A double chin like thingy really.
Dude, you just asked how to get rid of your double chin. Is that not what you were saying? It looks like that's what you were saying. I even specifically asked you what your goal was. you replied:

sooo... what the hell?
if you want to get rid of neck fat by doing neck exercizes, it's retarded. we just told you that. if you want to be obstinate about it there is no point in even conversing with you about it anymore.
if your goal is something other than reducing the fat, then maybe you should have chosen a reply that actually reflects that.

i asked a very specific question and then provided additional information for experts who might have some insight i havent thought of myself, not to hear something any amateur knows.
So for anyone who can not provide such insight, consider it a strength issue if that helps you, and i would really appreciate it if you could provide me with some ideas regarding neck exercises.
sorry:x but before you try to help, you gotta realize whether your post will actually come out as helpful and if it addresses the initial concerns expressed by the.. helpee
Doing neck exercises will not get rid of your double chin. Its just like asking what ab exercises to do to get a 6 pack. (BTW doing just ab exercises alone will not get you a 6 pack) I'm not sure why you are attacking everyone Sfydjklm.

It doesn't seem like you really understand that there's no such thing as spot reduction and that it comes back to diet. Your concern isn't anything about neck strength, so how is recommending neck exercises going to help you at all?

First, this is about horses. Horses obviously are drastically influenced by human in attempts to focus on special traits so each race has a very limited pool of genes. So I'ld tend to say that you cannot gain certaincy from looking at horses. I'm not a biologician but in addition to that so far it has been very difficult to come to any conclusions from what can be read in a human genome.
This weeks SPIEGEL (german weekly news magazine) contains an interview with Craig Venter who admits that there is pretty much nothing that can be surely told from human genes so far. Not even eye color is a sure thing. Most informations that can be gathered are about probabilities (for example to get a certain disease), however there are so many combinations that those might be countered by other genes unnoticed. Overall, he says that genes are absolutely overrated and things like enviromental influence are underrated.
So I wouldn't be too sure that this is predetermined. Possibly it might be influenced by other factors that might trigger certain other genes but I surely wouldn't tell that a humans capabilities are limited to a certain field only because of this article.

My muscles build up flat. I go from skinny bitch to reasonably cut in about 10-12 days. But yeah... I'm now in reasonably good shape, but I want moar abs... the kind that are cut and beautiful even when I'm sitting down.
